When are free transfers off of Treebeard?

I logged in today to check things out and there was literally 1 player online, lol. You guys are running an entire server for 1 L12 River Hobbit, haha.

Yeah, yeah, Mordor/Angmar. But this is pretty ridiculous. It stopped being "massive" a while ago, but now poor Treebeard can't even truthfully be called a "multiplayer" sometimes!

The servers were all down for maintenance until just a few minutes ago. It's not surprising that there were very few people on Treebeard at the moment you wrote your OP.

That said, since Mordor and Angmar opened, Treebeard's usual population has diminished quite a bit. There are still people active there, and the larger kinships still run events and have people playing every day. But Mordor's EU geolocation is a big draw, as well as the high population there, the 64-bit server technology, and the wraith event.

Ah, good--didn't even notice it was Wednesday, guess they came up early and I happened to log in right after. Hope they get into double digits soon. 9 and counting now!

(Mordor is at 553, ha)

Free transfers off of Legendary Worlds have always happened at the time the server reaches current level cap.

For Treebeard, level 150 is expected around Q2 2027, but as there is a good chance we will be at level 160 by then, it is more likely that this will happen around Q4 2027 or maybe even Q2 2028.

I have characters on Treebeard, but yeah.... not paying to move them off, so they will just be parked there until the time comes.

It is not surprising that Angmar and Mordor have become popular, they are still in the "fresh start" phase of the server, the wraith mechanic overall is like by most although it needs some more tweaking, and the fact that Mordor is physically located in the EU is very enticing to EU players.

Personally I think Treebeard is just too slow. There are people who are going to like it, but I think the 3 months per expansion speed is just about right, and 6 months is just too slow.

You say "always" like it's happened more than twice, haha. And even then, "always" isn't accurate because Ithil got free transfers off prior to reaching cap--it was closed before cap. Of course, that's because Anor was still there to accommodate anyone still clinging to the "legendary" progression. But you could transfer from Ithil to normal servers for free.

It's true that they didn't offer them off of Shadowfax until the bitter, bitter end despite population dropping to single digits frequently, but it would be decent of them to offer them for free once the server population is low enough.

It is 6:45pm EST (ostensibly "prime time" in North America) and there are 13 people on Treebeard--which includes one 3-boxer farming 24/7 in their homestead.

I feel sorry for anyone who purchased premium homes or character upgrades on this server expecting it to be an MMO.

This *is* the other place.

You could have skipped the haha. Anor, Ithil, Shadowfax. Three.

I agree with the OP actually. Population was low before Mordor and Angmar. Now it is significantly lower. It would upset a few people and please others if they shut the server down as they did with Ithil.

They did this with Ithil server cause they opened up a secondary Legendary server if first one got too full, Ithil wasn't really intended to stick around unless it became popular, it didn't, so they offered off free transfers to see what players would do, then maybe shut it down and they did.

Now with Shadowfax and Treebeard its different both servers had the same intent, that is keep it till it reaches close to current level cap then shut it down, so you won't see transfers off of Treebread till it gets there. its does not have the same fate Ithil had, so don't expect transfers off anytime soon.

I know all of this--I've played on every Legendary Server. Except none of us knew what their intentions were with Ithil--even SSG until the very end said there were "no plans to close Ithil".

Regardless, I'm saying they *should* offer free transfers off, just as I argued that they should have allowed free transfers off of Shadowfax when population dropped down to single digits. It's the decent thing to do.

Take Ithil off your list, it's not accurate.

Two.

And just to add, in general, this isn't really a biased opinion. I don't have any characters on Treebeard I care about, just as I didn't have any on SF I wanted to keep. Because I played on Anor and haven't bothered playing any Legendary Server since any more seriously than devs are taking the server's well-being--aka the bare minimum.

But there are people who got fooled into thinking LS wouldn't be forgotten and kicked behind the couch to waste away. The least they could do is provide these people the opportunity to play the characters they spent money on on a server with actual people.

If SSG is losing profits on Treebeard, they should consider closing the server and using the funds elsewhere.
Offer free transfers.

Well that's the thing--they kind of *also* promised a progression server through all the expansions. So I think they need to leave it open--clearly some people don't mind playing the game essentially solo. But the ones who would transfer off are probably not the ones logging in at all anyway, some must be just sitting on some other server wishing they had their Premium House or characters loaded up with stat tomes and milestone cooldowns and quest slot unlocks and increased task limits, etc...

Others just quit entirely but might play again if they had their characters on a server with other people.

Treebeard has been hamstrung by its own history. Landscape Difficulty made it popular to start with, but many players preferred the updated version of Landscape Difficulty that later came to all live servers. Angmar and Mordor are shiny and new, with better performance, updated Landscape Difficulty, more players in low levels, and a new wraith gimmick. Treebeard just can't compete.

Let me rephrase my earlier statement then:

Free transfers are offered when it is determined that the server will close, regardless of what the level cap is at that time. As long as a server isn't scheduled to be closed, no free transfers will be offered.

2 data points is a pretty small sample size to be so confident that they'll never change their policy. They certainly *could* start offering free transfers off of dead servers. Treebeard is already less populated than Ithil was when it closed, and not even half of what Anor was at its lowest point. It was easier to wait for Shadowfax because the release schedule was every 2 months--the entire server didn't even exist for 2 years.

Treebeard ostensibly has at least 3 years left before closing. 3 years for which people have characters and housing that they spent real money on, but can't actually enjoy the game as an MMO since barely anyone plays on the server.

It would be basic decency for SSG to offer free transfers off. It costs them little, since they will eventually be offered free. Conversely, it could MAKE them money if people start playing those abandoned characters again.

Every time when I checked the old legendary servers, there were maybe only up to 50 players online.

Anor had a very dedicated core--the peak population stayed consistently between 120-150 until almost the bitter end.

I haven't seen more than 40 people on Treebeard since Angmar/Mordor launched.

Right now it's Friday night in the U.S. between 8-11pm and there are 16 (!) people on. And 3 of those 16 are the same 3-boxer that macro farms 24/7.

16. On Friday evening.
