U41 - Monster Play - A Sapling Grows in the Ettenmoors & Glory-seeking

New quests were added to the game supporting the new Monster Player Reward Track offered by Faranil at Glân Vraig for Free People and by Cinaid at Gramsfoot.

Two quests serve to introduce the new daily offerings available. The first is to find a peculiar item in the Ettenmoors. The second is to seek advice from those who may know more. Once these introductory quests are completed, new daily quests from Faranil and Cinaid open for their respective sides of the battle. These quests rotate daily and drive direct conflict across the Ettenmoors. In all, there are ~25 associated quests with this new offering. There are no restrictions to acquire the new quests aside from completing the tutorial experiences in the Ettenmoors for your respective side of the battle.
  • The respective sides of the battle will work to cultivate or corrupt the little sapling with the daily quests.
  • Daily quests offered in this vein can be reset for 10 MC on the monster player side of the battle.

When asked, "What is the secret of Orc-kind?" Akúlhun responded, "To drive my enemy before me, to hear the lamentations of Man-children, and above all to seek glory!" That Uruk is somewhat depraved.

Glory-seeking is a new quest type available in the Ettenmoors. Up to four players on each side of the battle can choose to become glory-seekers. Doing so marks their location on the map, places a gaudy VFX over their head so they are noticeable on the battlefield, and increases their damage output by 20%. As they roam the Ettenmoors looking for victi- err competition. they are rewarded for massacr- err defeating the opposition by growing stronger with every few kills. Should they eliminate a large number of player opponents within a 20-minute time limit they receive a buff to damage, renown/infamy gains, and a bonus to earned glory for an additional 30 minutes.

Notes (Beta #5 notes in yellow):
  • Sapling Quests now complete as they should at Cinaid and Faranil.
  • Cinaid's quests now advance and display their advances.
  • Saplings, to be found for Cinaid and Faranil in the Ettenmoors, were not spawning correctly. This has been addressed and they should spawn throughout the Ettenmoors.
  • Glory-seeker quests now teleport the player and monster player to their respective forward camps.
  • Glory-seeker quests now properly advance their benefits and culminate in the You are glorious effect when completed.
  • Saplings, to be found for Cinaid and Faranil in the Ettenmoors, were not spawning correctly. This has been addressed and they should spawn throughout the Ettenmoors.
  • The correct NPCs are now placed and available for the supplemental Sapling quests.
  • The anti-Glory Seeker quests are disabled while we address bugs.
  • Failing your channeling event in the Sapling delivery quests now fails the quests.
  • All of the player side daily sapling quests now advance the weekly quests.
  • Cleave the enemy no longer requires the player to be level 150 to start the quest.
  • The number of kills for Corruptor: Beneath the earth is now displayed.
  • Bring them Low! now has a return to Tordur as outlined.
  • Cleave the enemy now teleports to the orc camp and no longer mentions the random location.

'Glory-seeking' is an interesting concept but the main thing that can improve action is the work on creep-freep balance. I understand that class-specific changes take time. But while you're working on them, please, do some fast stat improvements at least. You can't keep PvP in this state. 'Glory-seeking' and creep reward track are secondary to Balance rework.

Ok, now let's talk about 'Glory-seeking'.
1) the 20%-100% DMG bonus is gonna be annoying (especially for creeps because of the terrible balance), there are a lot of ways that players can abuse it and it creates several balance problems
2) in my opinion, the 'Glory-seeking' buff CANNOT give you any combat buffs (+%DMG, crit, HP, etc.), it should only give infamy/new currency buffs (or anything that does not change your combat strength)
3) the '4 players' limit should be removed, anyone should be able to get the quest
4) I think that you should refocus 'Glory-seeking' from individuals to groups (more on that below)

I suggest this:
I. Create a new in-game PvP panel (like social panel) that shows how many groups/raids there are in the Ettenmoors on both sides.
1) It can work the following way:

- any group/raid with more than 5 members becomes visible in this new PvP panel
- the only info on such group that any player on both sides can see is – 1) the name of the leader 2) the number of players in this group
- the location of the group members is not visible
2) Example:
Let’s say, there are 2 creep groups and 1 freep group that are in the Moors at the same time. 2 creep leaders – John and Peter, 1 freep leader – Timmy. One group has 12 creeps, another 24. Freep group has 15. So in this new PvP panel we will see something like this:
Creep:
John (12 members)
Peter (24 members)
Freep:
Timmy (15 members)

3) What is the purpose of it?
- it allows people to see if there is action or not fast (groups always run around the map searching for someone to fight; if you know in advance that there are some groups out in the Moors that you can fight, it saves time)
- it allows leaders on both sides to know how many players they need to fight the opposing faction
- if people can see fast that there is a group/raid on the opposing side, they can react faster by making their own groups

II. Add the new ‘Glory-seeking’ quests/mechanics to groups (instead of just 4 individual freeps/creeps).
1) It can work the following way:

- the group leader can activate a 'GLORY-SEEKING MARK' (by using the PvP panel) that makes him visible on the map for all the players present in the Moors
- it shows how many creeps/freeps from his group are close to him within 100m (either on the map or on the PvP panel)
- the whole group is affected by the leaders 'GLORY-SEEKING MARK' and it gets infamy/currency buffs for kills; the opposing side gets more points for killing them as well
- you get NO combat bonuses (like +DMG buffs, etc.)
2) What is the purpose of it?
- it allows leaders to move the action to a different location (away from grams camp, for example)
- it allows you to use the 'CHALLENGER MODE' (more on that below)

III. Add a 'CHALLENGER MODE' in which one group can challenge another and fight without getting zerged.
1) It can work the following way:

- if a leader activates a ‘GLORY-SEEKING MARK’ it can offer another leader (who also has a ‘GLORY MARK’) a fight in a 'CHALLENGER MODE'
- the offer can be accepted or rejected in the PvP panel
- there is an announcement in the chat (for both freeps and creeps): ‘X challenged Y’ (like when TA/TR/LUGZ, etc. gets taken)
- you can see the number of members of each group in the announcement
- if you decline an offer - you get humiliated in chat by tyrant Akulhun and captain Lainedhal (it is an announcement)
- if you accept - there is an announcement that the challenge begins
- if any of these 2 groups get more/lose some members - there is an announcement about it
- during the 'CHALLENGER MODE' your group location is visible only to your opponents (to their leader and to all members of their group); it is NOT visible to all other players on both sides
- the challenge begins as soon as 2 leaders come close to each other (50 meters); after that both groups become immune to dmg/heals/or any skills from taggers (players who are not in the groups that challenged each other) and they can’t do anything to them either, they can only attack each other
- the challenge lasts for 20m or so (or maybe there is no time limit, I'm not sure)
- you get some sort of points for each kill and your reward (that you get after the challenge) depends on these points
2) What is the purpose of it?
- it allows both groups to avoid getting zerged and have a good fight anywhere on the map

----------------------------
There are probably some ways that you can abuse the challenger mode, but I just wanted to give an example of Glory-seeking that can actually make action better.

I have seen reports on the following:

  • When under the effect of Glory-seeking exposure on the map updates are slower than expected
    • This appears to be functioning correctly as it uses the Warband tech
  • Players attempting to take the glory-seeker quest are crashing when they accept the quest
  • Neither Cinaid nor Faranil are granting their quests
    • This may be due to an inactive event, I will confirm in the morning

It must give combat buffs, or there's no point to it. The vision seems to be these uber toons running around the map laying waste, so grab everyone and go stop them. If he's just running around with a renown buff, no one will care.

Here are the changes I am considering based on the first night of testing in BR:

  • After you acquire the quest you must leave the protection of Glân Vraig or Gramsfoot
    • You must walk out the front of GV or Grams and leave completely within 45s or be teleported to a random location
    • You will receive the buff only when you advance the quest to this point
  • The glory-seeking buff will be changed to this:
    • Increase Damage by 20% per tier
    • Decrease Incoming Healing by 20% per tier
    • Increase Incoming Damage by 2% per tier
    • Duration 6 minutes
  • Advancing the quest tiers the quest up OR reapplies the buff
  • Add the completion buff:
    • Increase Glory/Renown gains by 20%
    • Increase earned Commendations by 20%
    • Duration 30m
  • Ensure that the players can access the quest
  • Fail the quest if you return to Gramsfoot/Glân Vraig
  • You cannot pick up Artifacts or Flags when you are on the Glory-seeking quests
  • Fail the quest if you visit a rez circle

Lag?
I just have a bad feeling that these additions, as nice as they are, are too late. So many people have quit over the last year or two just because you guys refuse to work on balance. Just my observation.

I left the moors not only due to the lack of balance. But some of the changes and missed balance created not a sense of fun PVP so much as an angry gameplay mechanic. We used to congratulate the other side on a good fight. I do not see this happening any more. I prefer to take my chances now in the PVP arena that is the music system.
May Eru have mercy on our Therobos.

If I understand correctly, the balance changes will not be available in the second beta again, right?

Will there be enough betas when the balance changes are implemented, so that we still have enough time to test the current changes?

Currently, it doesn't really make sense to test the current changes. If a level 140 Freep with old armor (without a cloak) can still defeat a rank 15 Creep in just a few moments.

Quest - Corruptor - sting of gold. After pick up it says completed. No quest infoo, but can still collect 7/7 eagle feathers. After 7/7 says to return to X

- It is still possible to enter the inside of the rock on TR fields.
- freeps can still enter under the stairs at the LUG tower and do not take damage
- freeps can still hug the wall of the TR tower and do not take damage

0 balance changes.
0 creep class changes.
no rework for WL.
no rework for BA.
no rework for Shadow Warg.
0 freep nerfs.
0 of anything anyone wants to see.
2 years since last creep side changes.
1 year since Umbar release which completely devastated PvMP balance for no reason whatsoever.
