Transfers have begun from some of our previously-closed worlds!

The main thing between a live game world and the kind of world we are using the "dark world" term for is that a "dark world" can't be logged into and is functionally closed.

A previous poster raised an interesting point: since it seems that many others are having the same issues with mains not being playable after transferring (due to having housing attached) would it be possible to wipe that data set from those characters in a universal manner to make them playable? All other character from all other servers seem to be usable. But NOT the mains that so much was invested into.

A solution like this is not impossible. But I think it might not be possible in a universal manner as you think. Even if the problem looks the same from our point of view. Mostly each character has different entries in the database that are affected, and a manual maintenance is necessary for each of them. That's probably also the reason SSG tries to limit the support for this. Or the universal way is to set back all characters to level 1.

Has anyone with a "damaged" character transferred from a Dark World attempted to transfer that character from one 64-bit server to another? If so, what were the results?

–Does it even show up as available on the source server in the Transfer Wizard?
–Does the transfer go through?
–Does the character remain "damaged" and unplayable on the destination server?

A possible solution would be to allow players to log in to the dark worlds so they can manually take care of their housing situation before transfer. Make it clear that they will be wiped August 31 so there's no point playing there longer than necessary. Disallow new character creation too.

I tried this at the same day I got my characters back. I transferred them between Grond and Orcrist and back. But the issue was still the same.

As I understand it, there is no logging into the world because the world doesn't functionally exist anymore. All they have is character data from that world, and character data is only a small fraction of all the data needed for a functioning world. At least, that is what Cord's above post seems to imply.

Granted, I am by no means a server or database expert, so if I am interpreting that wrong, please feel free to correct me!

Sounds right to me.
