So we're gonna be slotting Will when tanking eh?

1 point of Might gives guard

-1 point of tact and phys mit
-3 points of mastery
-1 point of crit
-3 points of OGH
-1 point of block
-2 points of parry

1 point of Will gives guard

-1.5 points of tact and phys mits
-1 point of resistance
-1 point of OGH
-1 point of finesse
-1 point of phys mastery

The way I see it is that the OGH is not important for Guard at all and with Thrill of Battle we do not need crit rating for our Singular Focus debuff or Fortification stack building. Avoidances are meh in general but non-0 atleast. And mastery is a personal choice I guess but I personally do not find that useful for tanking/don't think Guard puts out enough dps when tanking anyways for a bit of mastery to make a significant impact.

Leaving us with Will giving us more of both mits and finesse. That is really good. Is this really the intended outcome?

It feels like Might should give more phys mit than tact mit and Will doing the opposite but as heavy armour classes with a heavy shield and the +10% armour in blue line, we still would not need the extra phys mit and would still be more enticed by Will.

For DPS Guard, Might will still be ideal for the extra mastery and crit rating but for tanking, Will is just so much better. Some quick math
-If each piece of gear has a base stat slot in it that is 17 base stat essence slots (bows and shields now have essence slots). This is a conservative guess cuz who knows if future gear will have 2 base stat essence slots
-17 multiplied by a green essence of base stat (1257) = 21,369 base stat from slotted essences
-Since Will gives 50% more of both mits that is an extra 10,684 of both mits for slotting Will
-One mit essence is 2246 making that ~ 4.75 essence difference per mitigation type compared to slotting Might for mits

Thats a huge gap! And the gap will only get bigger as essences go up in value and if we get any gear with multiple base stat essences. Then you also get 6 essences worth of finesse under those calculation above. Who will honestly slot Might for tanking on Guard??

It just feels wrong to me. Personally I would advocate for Might giving 1.5 of both mits and Will giving 1. Leaving the finesse where it is so as we get closer to capping all our stats, we could start slotting Will for some finesse as needed.

This really does not impact anything but to stay with tradition it would be nice to have Might give more block than parry, aka, swapping their respective gained values with each other. I also find the block chain more important to tanking than the parry chain (especially since we can trait Force Opening now) so would rather have more benefits there. Yes we have Shield Blow but with Warchant's active CD reduction we can do alot of block chains skills quickly whereas Shield Blow does not have that CD reduction benefit.

Cheers

And....the problem is?

I haven't looked into the recent patch notes or stat changes much but, just from a thematic perspective, slotting will on a tank class does seem counter intuitive.

I still don't see the issue with each class/spec having its own unique stat weights.

Because we got conditioned into not even considering main stats for years and now the prospect of....THINKING is scaring people.

System is okay. Needs some work, but it's a good basis.

Best work they can do right now is make Solvents not be a Sisyphus task to acquire without swiping your CC.

I'm not even really talking about functionality. I'm just saying vitality seems like it would make the most sense as a primary tank stat.

Did I say there was a problem inherently? Thematically feels... off. But oh well its just a different name for a stat at the end of the day. If guard is suppose to ultimately favour might, this missed the mark and I suggested one way it could be adjusted. If tanking guard wanting will is intended then ? I'll slot will.

Makes it potentially harder to share gear between trait lines for guard but on the flip side maybe I can share my jewellery with my rk

Thank you for your stellar input as always zip
