Sad returning player :(

After not having played for a number of years, since having my son, I wanted to pop back in, and see how the game was going.

How is it going? I'm a lifetime VIP, and all my characters, my house, all my trophies and stuff are stuck on a closed server, with no option to transfer :( Or rather, there was a transfer option available, but when it completed, it just told me everything failed. After googling, I can see that theres a fat chance in hell that it'll open again :(

I went trough my emails, and I havent received a single email warning me about the closure of the EU-RP server I was playing on.

Not sure I have it in me to start over. Havent played since 2021, for a small stint.

If you have not played since 2021, and you were on an EU-RP server..... you were likely on Laurelin.

Transfers from those servers are still available as "dark world" transfers till at least December 31st 2027. You should be able to fire up the launcher, click on "Transfer", and then select Laurelin as the server to transfer from.

On the EU side, most people from Laurelin migrated to Meriadoc, as that is the new RP Encouraged server, and it is located in Rotterdam so you will have a lower ping than you had before.

Whats your best advice for starting over?

There's been so many class revamps in the last few years that you'll probably better off in starting over with new characters. Even if you could transfer your old characters to one of the new servers, a lot of their skills would need serious revamping.

I am not sure if this is still true, but for awhile the transfers were on a rotating basis, if still true, and you are not able to transfer now, check back in a week, maybe you will be able to transfer then.

That was between new servers, not from old to new.

Transfers off of closed worlds are still open, i'd try transferring again from the Launcher and see if works now, sometimes, at least in past the transfer system just shuts off with hourglass loading going nowhere, and much later it loads up, perhaps you hit transfer at wrong time?

I would continue to try to transfer. As you write, you have housing items, trophies, etc. that you would like to keep. That doesn't mean you have to continue to play with those characters after transfering them.

Have you oriented yourself on a new EU server? You can pick from Grond (least populated/server with the most available premium houses), Meriadoc (RP server, medium population), Orcrist (heaviest populated, many raiders). Start one or more characters/classes there (or on all three) and try it out, both how it plays and how you find the community.

Once you have decided on a server, and the transfer of your characters doesn't work (yet) - try a transfer of shared storage by itself.

It also helps to transfer one character at a time if the attempt to transfer everything at once failed. There can be IIRC some problems with house owners and kinship leaders.

Try transferring just one character first without checking the shared storage or shared wardrobe boxes. If a character is a housing owner or a kinship leader, the system often panics and fails the whole batch.

I also came back a few months ago from Laurelin and the transfer was still open. It's just very poorly done and you can't tell which server you select unless you select one and press Transfer. Then it brings up a confirmation screen where you can review which servers you just clicked. And like someone else said many classes feel very different now. It's must faster (and chaotic sometimes.) While the old classes felt more relaxed to play. It takes some time to relearn the classes.
