Poll: How often do you use the Auction House?

Gold doesnt have much value in LOTRO. I sell stuff because i dont want it and feels wrong to just destroy it, but i dont have anything to buy with the gold i already have unless i need crafting mats on the ah. I wish the developers would add something to the game, like a cool mount or something as an example, that cost alot of gold. That would spur the AH and make people actually want to earn gold.

When I think about it I open it and buy stat tomes I don't have yet. Or cosmetic pets, weapons with nice cosmetics, food, potions. I'd say every day or once every other day at least.

Sell task items just for a steady gold income. Buy buff tomes. Would buy lower level crafting materials but rarely see them on Sting and when I do they are priced so high just laugh and get them myself. May start selling crafting mats(at a more reasonable rate) after the gear grind.

Interesting. What about filling the AH as a community building contribution?

I have heard naysayers in world chat on quiet servers say that the inactive AH is an indicator that LOTRO is dead or that the server is dead. This has annoyed me such that on our quiet servers, I sometimes place lots of items for sale, just to combat those voices,

I also put off-season festival musical instruments on the AH on many servers, when I have extras. At first glance, this may seem strange. After all, Wandering Stars GIVES AWAY FREE off-season festival instruments to new musicians and to bands who are forming on their not-home servers. However, it's not easy to communicate with everyone, and some folks would rather pay fair market value for their band instruments than take them for free (stubborn and proud ).
One interesting thing about my AH instrument sales, is that I put them on the AH for the same price on all servers. Always 140-180gold. This is very low for servers like Orcrist and Glamdring, where they tend to go for 2000g. And it's high for Meriadoc, where instruments are actively for sale at lower prices, sometimes 60-80 gold.
I thought about this, and I don't want to sell for so low that people are not motivated to collect instruments at the festivals - those prices seem to me to be a good return for people willing to put in the time. (And yes, the fact that I give them away to anyone who asks IS an undercut, but I'm trying to find a good compromise place to stand philosophically, where my actions contribute to a vibrant music community and an active AH.)

This is an informal poll to see how frequently forum members use the Auction House.

The vast majority (92%) of respondents use the Auction House at least occasionally. A few (8%) never or almost never use the AH.

The largest percentage of players (56%) use the AH once in a while for specific purposes, while 36% use the AH at least once during each day they play. Then there are 4% who "play" the AH, almost like a game within the game. These results show that the Auction House is a widely utilized feature of the game by most players, in a variety of ways.

These days, I'm less active, but there are usually things I am on the lookout for, so I check whenever I log in. Back when I was more active (on Landroval), for several years, I had three characters who were selling every day (craft toolsets, crafted dyes, and festival dyes).
