Issue with character rollback (of a few mins) and rough performance

At around 4:30pm Pacific time, had issues with a few disconnects and my character progress being rolled back. Really strange stuff, that and issues with the chat server preventing me from chatting at all.

I was debating with myself whether to start a thread on this, but here we are.

Angmar server:
I noticed the worst hitching around Thorin's, including a full freeze (& crash to black screen) while crafting in the Greenhouse area with a loss of over 10 minutes of craft progress and loss of mats. Not sure where that particular irritant is hitting everyone else, but performance issue plus event in the same area... *shrug* ...rule 39?

All afternoon there were comments in chat about having crashed with loss of up to 30 minutes of progress.

Update--
Like the above post I was in Ered Luin. I just had this happen again and it seemed to happen about the time the Hard Tack of Thorin's Hall started. Guessing there's some bad interaction between the crafting event and the new server code or something? Don't know.

Around the same time the game started acting a bit erratic for me, got the "Reduced Awareness" popup a couple of times. I also started clipping through bridges, cliffs, ramps etc. Fortunately I did not get rolled back though. I logged out for an hour or so and the game was back to normal when I logged back in.

I was not affected myself because I was not logged on at the time, but from what I gathered logging in about an hour after it happened that something reset on the server and caused a number of zones to revert back to an earlier state, about 10 minutes as suggested.

This may just be something new in the 64-bit server software that caused an unknown issue or something. Remember that the 64-bit server software is brand spanking new, and although tested in various betas, I won't be surprised some issues will pop up and need to be fixed. Over time the backend server software will also be patched just like the game will.

I'd say just keep providing bug reports when you encounter strange things, and they (SSG) will look at it, and hopefully fix it with the next patch.

We have some environmental data from the weekend we'll be looking at today and in the coming days, but there were a few technical issues over the weekend. Overall, though, both Angmar and Mordor appear to be performing quite well.

@Cordovan is there anyway to tell if the lack of server lag on the Angmar server is due to the 64 bit server code OR the fact that the servers are extremely new and don't have much DEED data saved up yet?

The performance has been VERY good so far on Angmar. I really hope this is due to the 64 bit server, but I fear it is because there isn't much user data yet on the servers. I hope I am wrong.

It is likely a combination of both. All characters are new, which means there is a LOT less data per character to process. At the same time, since the servers can now operate on assigning more memory than 4 GB to a process (advantage of 64 bit) they will run more smoothly and less laggy.

I too have been impressed with Angmar so far. No lag whatsoever so far.

Agreed that both are off to a great start. An absolutely perfect start is not even to be hoped for as 64-bit is tested out in a real game environment.

Is my ticket concerning lag spikes on kinship chat events part of this? Because I got severe stutters after joining a big kin, and they were gone after I left the kin again.

I've seen people say that the chat stutters are caused by the profanity filter. I haven't tested this myself, but it might be worth turning the filter off (if you haven't already) to see if that makes a difference.

I had zero performance issues. The server is running great. No stutters, no lags. But I had a rollback of about 15 min playing time following a sudden disconnect that came out of nowhere. And I had another minor rollback of one minute or so after logging out. Upon logging in again, I had all items back that I sold to a npc just before logging out.

I think I turned it off because it used to block harmless German words which have syllables that might count as bad words in English. The biggest lag spikes are when someone in my kinship logs in and the chat message about that appears.

How big is your kinship?

I just got disconnected and had my progress wiped for the second time so going to wait till they fix this before continuing. ?

I can afford to lose a bit of progress every day. I don't love it any more than others do but unless it gets a lot worse Mordor is my home now.

And they will fix it so it won't be every day for long. I knew this was a trial run going in so no complaints.

I don't mean to complain... Just wanted them to know it's happening. I know they will fix it to. I just had to take a break for a bit. But Angmar is my home for as long as the server is open.?
