How do people feel about reactions on the forums?

If you dont understand the difference between leaving negative feedback under posts you disagree with, or going into someone's profile and leaving hundreds of emojis after every post that person ever made, then that means you just dont understand what online harassment is.

Feels like you're deliberately missing the point here. Going through hundreds of posts is certainly harassment. But where is that line? Someone pops into a thread you're in and makes 20 separate statements you disagree with, do you trip the harassment alarm bells for putting reactions on that?

That scenario seems like pretty fair game for me but in light of the moderation going on lately it's hard to tell if that constitutes a bannable offence. Not a great environment for productive discussion.

This right here is perfect. How can anyone have a spirited discussion or even vigorously engage on the forums with the threat of someone taking some offense not intended and you getting banned for it?

It just leads to people not engaging at all.

I've seen this been said multiple times, and haven't seen the source of this anywhere. Can you link those posts that have had hundreds of emojis?
It's not that I don't believe you, I just find it weird to discuss something that we do not have any proof of.
The only proof of anyone targetting/abusing the "HaHa" emoji was provided by me pages ago. Ironically, it was done by a poster calling for a removal of the "HaHa" feature. You can't make this stuff up.

Do you mean this post?
And yet, Doro, for all your pearl clutching in this post, you do the very thing you accuse others of. To those who liked Doro’s post, check my history and you can see that he has, for whatever reason, indiscriminately posted “HaHa” reacts on a majority of my recent posts.

*That* is an actual example of harassment, not someone clowning on your poorly thought out or rage-baity post with a “HaHa” emoji.

Because I don't see any proof here and I've gone over your history. I see that one laughing emoji on some posts, but there's not a single post with hundreds of emoji's. Of course, I also know you were not the supposed target either, so I'm asking for just 1 single post with hundreds of emoji reactions (although people claim there have been several).

At this point I'd even go for a single post with dozens of emoji reactions, even though that's a far cry from the hundreds of reactions that constantly get quoted here.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not in favour of removing the reactions. I was just highlighting a case of hypocrisy here. I don't think there is a post "with hundreds of emojis", which points to the fact that this is mostly a non-issue being wielded by people who have been burned by the occasional (maybe warranted) "HaHa" react.

Anyway, just introduce an upvote/downvote system. Simple as that.

Probably because emojis are a set of symbols being used to communicate, much like language or street sign shapes do, and sometimes language is used in harmful ways, or even weaponized. I imagine it would upset some people more than others due to sheer familiarity and experience with the language of emojis.
And that is the problem, I see emoji as something to express my feelings and have no idea about the language. So, I can't use emojis because I don't know the language?

It’s a big cultural problem across the world, especially in Western society. There has been this trend seeing all debates, disagreement, etc. as being akin to “violence” or harassment. Jonathan Haidt has some solid books and articles on the underlying mindset.

In my perception, that era peaked in 2020 and 2021. But you still see the vestiges of it crop up a lot.

This thread is more triggering than the emoji movie. And that had Orion voicing the moors cow **** emoji. ?

I don’t know that anyone has a link. Cord didn’t say which members were involved, and I don’t expect him to. He just said it had happened. I guess whoever it happened to would probably have the info, but wouldn’t they get in trouble for naming and shaming another poster if they provided it?

I'm fairly certain this is just hyperbole people have been using to bolster their argument. it looks a lot better at surface level to say "See, people spammed emojis 100s of times on one post this is out of hand" instead of "so yeah someone reacted a dozen or so times to someones posts and now its a huge problem"

Even if they ban people, they don't remove what they done. So I have forever -600 negative reaction. Maybe I deserve that, LOL
I don't even know emojis are bad/good reactions. None of these emojis is negative in and of itself, they need to be seen in context. And even then, a haha might just be a way to let me know I didn't spell right or the points I bring up have nothing to do with the thread or they might think I made a joke.

That is sad to hear that a few bad actors have weaponised the reaction system. Personally, I really like the system. I enjoy letting other posters know that I agree with them, and I really enjoy when people react to my own posts. I hope we can keep the system.
I thought
One player have alt account to spam haha reactions on every my post to give me a lot of negative reputation. I don't have problems with that, it's sad what someone spend so much time to spam like 800 reactions.

Yet it looks like spam and trying avoid community rules.
Do haga reactions give you negative reputation on forum?

Also, I am shocked at your take on all of this. Your commentary as a mod on the LOTRO Community Forums was "colorful" to say the least.
How does that in any way relate to abuse of an emoji system for the purpose of harrassment?

We know, but you guys understand it a bit wrong. It is not one or two posts with a hundred emojis. It are a couple of posts in a couple of threads that got 2 or 3 emojis.

That is absolutely a complete misinterpretation of what i said there.

YES REALLY
Ban reactions NOW
EDIT: Literally look at the reactions this post gets, THEY ARE DOING IT ON THIS THREAD HERE! Do you realize how brazen that is? They don't care about being banned for harrassing, they're going to continue doing it until the feature is turned off or they get banned for it.
There are 6 reactions to this post, including mine and you're acting like someone stole your lunch!? I'll tell you why I laughed at your post. Because I genuinely think it's funny, yet also sad, that you're losing your mind over something so meaningless and soft. I'm really not trying to be mean or harass you in any way. This is a game forum where many different types of people with many different personalities and thoughts and the only way you can have open honest discussion is to allow people to freely express their opinions. Sometimes those opinions differ from yours and sometimes the things people say or do aren't going to be the way you would say or do it. You could think to yourself "why are people reacting like this"? Then start a conversation. Most people will explain themselves if asked. Your solution seems to be "people are doing this, I don't like it, so they shouldn't be allowed to do that".
