I know it has been a long time since this change. She was once a beautiful character, but I have tried so many times to restore that, and I just can't find a way to do it. She looks great at the barber but as soon as she leaves the chair, she looks bad. I can't even look at her at the log-in screen. Any suggestions?

This *is* the other place.
Since neither of us can change the options available for high elf appearances:

1. Camp her and focus on a new character where you will not be tormented by how she used to look.
2. Keep in mind that while a character is adventuring all most of us see is the back of the head and the arse - and just think about things like hairstyle and hair colour.

I had precisely same difficulty. I found that the simplest settings look the best.

Alternatively, you can start with one of the 13 "presets", then make adjustments from there.

Press accept after changing the appearances at the
barber NPC UI, or else the customization that you choose will not be applied.

I distinctly remember people complaining about this during the initial race of Man avatar update.

I maintain that something isn't working as intended there
I really agree with you here. Even with my vision not being that good, I can see clearly that characters (elves and humans the most) seem to look different at the barber, on the log in screen and then in game, so that is three different appearances off one character who hasn't been changed visually across a log in session. In my opinion, the log in screen shows the character the worst followed by in game appearance and then barber shop, but even that can vary by character.

I think old characters seem to be suffering the worst for it as I do have a couple characters I made after the changes that pretty much look the same across all three places (a human male is the best one so far), but he also took a lot of work at the very beginning. Assets are not rendering the same across the game and that definitely must be a bug. I have no idea how else you'd explain it. Different modernization levels in different parts of the game?

@Lorianna I don't know if it would make the pain any less, but I do have an old champion who I made a sister for and was able to make her face look a way I liked while still having her resemble the original character. My thought was the original had to retire due to an injury (or whatever reason you like) and the sister took up her mission in her place. Maybe you could do that for your girl until we get some fixes to this mess?

Mine is a 140 minstrel, so not easy to replace. Thankfully I have other minstrels at that range. I so much want to play her but everytime I try I give up.
