Forester Event issue

I joined this event this morning, couple of other people around. It was about to start and then it Failed.
It said this in the chat window:

The competition is about to begin
The Chetwood Forester Contest is recruiting, previous entrants were removed
Failed: Combe: I'm a Lumberjack

And now, without even starting, I've failed the quest and have to wait 16 hours for another go.

I'm guessing possibly someone joined and then left and there weren't enough to continue, but no fair Failing the quest and having to wait for the cooldown!

Same for me, I waited 15 minutes for the event to start, then I think not enough people registered (no indication of this) and the event didn't start. Waited another 15 minutes then find the quest got removed and I had to wait until the next day.

REALLY ANNOYING.

If it doesn't start due to lack of people you should be allowed to take the quest again.

All it takes is actually playing game. Event already working after update even when we don't have 1st september yet.

Main problem what you can't tell if people standing here join event or just AFK, or doing Chetwood quests. You need risk and decide join event, but if you alone you fail and need spend MC for another try

Why is it in the game already? Is it a bug? If so please fix it and remove rewards from those who have already participated or give every player these wining rewards. I'm pretty sure most people are patiently waiting for the 1st of September, for the announced start.

I played the event and I found out it was running when it announced in Chat while doing horse race event in Bree. Two of my characters that ran the event experienced the same as above. They registered for the event and waited for the judge to say go when after cooldown timer it said failed event and that character was no longer able to attempt the event again until the next day. Both times there were less than 3 signed up for the event. Will we always have to have 3 players to do the event? I know they are fixing the failed part where you don't even do the event and can try again next round and not wait for the day cool down. However, there was something else I noticed about the event. I know there is an axe that you can pick up faster and supposedly a drink that has a faster cool down so you can have normal run speed back. Shouldn't the axe be random from the three you pick from? I mean once people figured out which axe, they went for that one with all their characters every time and same with the drink. Also, run speed varied depending on character class. I thought it was supposed to be fair across the board with run speed buffs nullified. I was in a good lead chopping wood with my guardian, but a hunter was able to run pass me and take the lead and I was unable to catch up with my slow running guardian and this was before drinking.

We shut the event down for this very reason. There is an issue where the event can get out of synch at the moment. When this happens it is prematurely entering the cooldown state and driving the event to fail. We are working on the fix and will set the event back to on when we have ironed out the issues.

Want to throw that final build onto Bullroarer because we/I pointed out all these concerns and the end product seemed like a clash in check in code for the release build?

Only progress I noticed was the skinning animation and mount barring, did that undo other advances?

It got out of sync in the first beta, just not as badly (and to the harm of players) as in the release.

Why over complicate it with two npcs if you can't coordinate them in the provided environment. KIS, I feel obliged to leave off the last Initial. (Perception: Winton Wolf or Scooby-do janitor? forum cleaner)

It's still a homage to a white washed American market and not canon. Still Binding issues in the crafts. Still a RND wrench thrown in to stifle pure competition.

Too much on your plate I know, and higher ups unwilling to see beyond the hype. Excitable people don't perform in a raid either.

There will not be a Bullroarer for the fixes, no.

I could spend my time explaining the merits of the two NPCs involved in the event but there really is no point. Whether this was 1 or 15 NPCs that were used in the event would not matter with the synching issue. It is, ironically, an issue with the solo player failsafe that we added and, frankly, I believe that allowing solo players the ability to do an event like this is worth the inclusion of that failsafe.

What happens if I get passive skills, titles and emotes with character with forester profession, and after that switch forester with something else? I lose everything what I get from crafting event?

The passive skills, titles, and emotes are not lost. The passive traits will still be there but they won't do anything - because you will not be executing forester recipes without the forester profession.

Would agree that no "failsafe" would have meant very little feedback on BR and all too obviously the cause of the sync issues. And soon enough as peeps are done with or tire of the event in time.
Lots of prior content seems to go west as far as maintaining it goes. It's good that peeps coming to the game in the future can solo it. It's more about how the failsafe got worse after the feedback got attention and the speed buffs were reintroduced. Big battles got no such accommodation for late comers, just a detour around them.

Well you chose which chars you want to cover actual production crafting needs and only "switch" professions to farm each event on alts.

I can't see titles, emotes or passives being taken away, just that the passives won't give you anything when not a forester. But maybe you could be again some time in the future when alts are all gathers. - beaten to it...

The event didn't got a world announce when it started. Spend 1 hour looking around the area & asking, No NPCs offered quests. I
got the false impression that all alts could participate on this event, but 1 hour later somebody shared that have to be toons with forestry ability only. Nobody wanted to share the data until after they won the competition, cause nobody to compete with :sneaky:. Come on people no a happy way to start...

Well, it was in the Update 37 Notes:

"We have added our first Crafting Event to the game! The event takes place at the Combe Lumber Camp and, when active, the Camp is decorated by flags, new hide stretchers, craft tables, wood piles, and bears for skinning. If you are in Breeland, you will get an announcement alerting you that the event will begin in 15 minutes. Contestants can make their way to the lumber camp and acquire the quest from Wilkin Thorne, Mason Thorne's son. As the event coordinator, Wilkin will bestow the quest to any forester, regardless of their proficiency. Read more about the Forester Crafting Event on LOTRO.com."

I think it only announces it while you are in Bree-land, which is annoying by itself.
You can be in Gundabad and be unaware that the event is active or is about to start.

If it starts precisely at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, etc, then you should be able to know when it starts by keeping track of the time....

Start times are every 20 mins or so and based off the start of the previous running. Turn up with a Forester.

If less busy the cycle time will lengthen a bit if a second competitor doesn't turn up.

istvana

This *is* the other place.

Bad enough that it spams Breeland over and over and over - since it is on a regular 20 minute schedule this is far from necessary. Spamming the entire world would be terrible.
