Cord of the Rings - MVP covers the festival and Severlin details server news

Midsummer Festival
  • MVP is trying to freshen up the festivals. His first step was adding missions to the Anniversary Event (5min).
  • Farmer's Faire will have some additional quests (but not on the scale of Midsummer Festival). There will be nothing added to Harvestmath since that is the time they will be working on the expansion (21min).
  • Midsummer Festival is bringing in a whole new landscape and quests. They are not using something from the existing Shield Isles but a new island made by Scenario (which some players might have noticed already when it first appeared in the game). There is enough room to expand going forward (6min).
  • Cordovan previews on an internal server the new harbor for the festival (7min, 9min).
  • Ikhajat in the Prancing Pony will provide you with a quest that ports you there. You can travel to the island through this character anytime during the festival. There are a number of other places to do this such as in front of the stables in Minas Tirith (Midsummer) or at the tavern in Thorin's Hall (8min).
  • The festival wrapper quest will be available at the harbor in case you don't feel like going to Minas Tirith (9min).
  • The island will only be available during the festival. Think of it as "Furtherhome" instead of Winterhome (10min).
  • There is no minimum level requirement as long as you complete the introduction (11min).
  • Gathering Guests is a series of quests that takes you to 14 different locations across Middle-Earth to invite characters to the island (12min).
  • There are around a dozen new quests you can accept on the new island. Cordovan previews the Housekeeping quest that reveals the new messy bed decoration you can obtain (13min).
  • These are violence-free quests. You do not need to worry as a level 5 character (14min).
  • Cordovan visits the Midsummer Barter Matron with a list of new rewards. These include the Sea-Side cosmetics, kite (shown on screen), steed (and war-steed), four different planters, three types of beds, and two music themes (15min).
  • Cordovan does the quest to scare off the seagulls and turns on super speedy mode to show off a portion of the island (20min).
  • The cosmetics with the bow on your head, hat, Victorian-inspired swimsuit, tote, and shoes are all shown on the screen (24min).
  • There are sandal cosmetics in the game but not available to barter from the festival (25min).
  • The steed is shown on screen. MVP is unsure how the cosmetics dye as that is not part of his work (26min).
  • Public Schedule shows that the festival will begin Thursday and continue to July 8th (28min).
Server Closures
  • Information on the closure of 32-bit game worlds (29min).
  • Severlin expected to have more time to determine what to do with the servers at the Data Center, but their contract and schedule changed as the reality of the business. We wanted everyone to transfer to the new 64-bit servers anyways. We would have liked more time for people to migrate and pick their servers. There is still room and a few months to transfer (32min).
  • Free transfers are available through August 31st. The current dark worlds (from 2015) will permanently close and become unavailable. The current 32-bit worlds will become "dark worlds" in the sense that you would not be able to log into those worlds again (33min).
  • The servers will need to be moved out of the Data Center and into storage. They will be available for transfers again in a similar way with the servers we are doing now (47min - 49min).
  • Take the time to check your characters, sell or abandon the kinship house, and transfer at your own pace before that happens (34min).
  • Treebeard will be going up to level 130 next Wednesday to give players the opportunity to get their rewards. This includes the legendary difficulty system titles as well as the cloaks and frames (37min).
  • The decision for the Treebeard server is difficult with its current population despite the number of players who are actively enjoying their experience. While it is possible to work on the technology for an experience modifier, we feel that there isn't a need with the benefits from the Stone of the Tortoise item (37min).
  • This is not an announcement for new game worlds. Counting the legendary worlds, there will be 4 US and 4 EU 64-bit servers (39min).
Server Stability
  • The Orcrist server is in a challenging state. We know that there is lag on the server, but the problem is no longer coming from the central server. From looking at the charts, we can also see that the new technology is in good shape. Instead, the lag is coming from group content (40min).
  • One problem we had is how certain servers would run out of resources and crash. People who experience lag would be hitting on of those servers. When checking out the landscape or even other servers, things are looking pretty good even though they are still not at 100% (41min).
  • Running PvMP, 6-man, and 12-man content is more expensive on the servers, more so than older content on the legendary servers. We need to figure out what the problem is when players are sharing information with each other. The frame rate in PvMP tends to drop because so much is going on with effects (42min).
  • The 5-second skill delay tends to happen when high levels are crossing boundaries in the landscape. This will be a longer term problem to work on. There isn't an actual line in the ground to determine when this happens. We don't want this to happen during a fight (43min, 44min).
  • Posting /loc in Discord is actually really helpful in determining when and where players experience lag in the game (47min).
  • It is possible for players to run a raid without any lag because of how the servers stack on a certain boss (53min).
Escrow
  • Customer Service is trying to assist players with the Escrow situation but it is a slow process (35min).
  • Escrow items on old worlds should appear in house storage after you transfer (36min).
  • Severlin apologizes that there were areas of the transfer system where there was no functional code that helped support the Escrow system. They didn't catch it early during testing (45min).
  • A lot of their current work is to resolve tickets by automating the Escrow process. If the issue still persists, then Customer Service can provide guidance (46min).
  • It is a personal choice if you want to sell your classic or premium house before transfers (47min).
Q&A
  • The old forums that have remained in a read-only state for about 3 years are going away. Players need to copy the information they need before August 31st (50min).
  • The deed log has been shuttered for now. First, there were outstanding issues with the features of the old deed log not available. Second, we are still working on updates for 4k since not everything scales. We have to add the features and clean up the system before we bring it back (51min, 52min).
  • Rivendell housing will not be immediate but still on the table (55min).
  • Bullroarer for Update 45 will be a process with a new one tentatively set for next week (56min).
  • Burglar and Hunter changes are in the Update 45 cycle even if you do not see them on Bullroarer (57min).
  • Severlin has seen some artwork for the landscape and creatures for the expansion but will not be spoiling anything on stream (57min).
  • You'll have to ask Orion about future crafting events. He has a lot on his plate right now (58min).
  • Quality of Life updates might be done after finishing work on the expansion (58min).
  • The next avatar update will either be dwarf or hobbit. While not confirmed, we are thinking hobbit will be next (58min).
  • Elves are still being touched up. They are aware of some clipping issues. Though, some might not be considered a bug. We don't want to disallow combinations of options because they continue to be problematic (59min).

Double thank you because I have no way to watch the video at the moment, but I was seeing people mentioning Severlin's explanation about why the decision to close the 32 bit worlds happened, and I really wanted to know the details!

One thing that wasn’t mentioned is the fate of Angmar. This server exist in the datacenter that is now slated to close, I am assuming by the end of the year.

What is the plan here? Is Angmar going to CLOSE? Is it going to be MOVED? @Cordovan can you give some clarification as to what is planned? I’m sure that when this decision to accelerate the closure of the 32-bit servers due to the closing of the datacenter that Angmar was also discussed. Initially it was said that Treebeard would be allowed to serve out its time till level cap….. and that has now been accelerated to ensure it closes before the end of the year…. But if Treebeard is closing 31 August, I am assuming Angmar can’t just stay around on their lonesome in a data center that is closing….

So I’m worried. What is the plan?

Edit: @Cordovan told me on Discord that Angmar is NOT located in the datacenter that is slated to be closed. However, latency shows that it is clearly NOT in Rotterdam or Las Vegas, and as it has an almost IDENTICAL latency to Arkenstone, it must be located nearby. The general New York area is FILLED with datacenters, so it is likely located in an undisclosed FOURTH datacenter in that region that we are not aware of.

Has Two Factor Authentication gotten any closer to a release date?

I have given up on it. Of course the team that does this work is the SAME team that is tasked with back-end engineering things like deploying the new 64-bit servers, fixing said servers, facilitating the transfers, working on the back end tech supporting the escrow situation, etc, etc...... so I would guess that MFA is currently on a shelf until the Engineering team is getting some breathing room.

Shame about the old forum closing. Old posters who are no longer here such as Nymphonic will be lost forever. Going to look at some scraper software and see what the storage overheads are for taking a read-only copy minus images.
That would be great!

With Treebeard going to 130, will that also include unlocking the related content (Where Dragons Dwell, Vales of Anduin, Minas Morgul, War of Three Peaks and Blood of Azog)? Or will it just be a level increase with the current content?

I'm 99.9% sure it will unlock all content to 130, how else are you going to GET to 130.... ;)

OK. I haven't been keeping up with Cords weekly updates.

This *is* the other place.
There are few if any logical reasons not to move characters before the servers close. Delay gains nothing and transfers from closed worlds are probably buggier.

I would guess that close to 100% of the people that are following what is going on will move all characters. Those left will be people that have left the game or are taking a long break and not paying attention at all.

I will bet with you on this one.
After rereading the original post above, it looks like the content up to 130 will be unlocked so that folks can acquire the legendary rewards before closure. I missed that bit of info the first read through.
