Well, that would depend. My Hobbit Burg would go into stealth mode and snag that bad boy in a second. My Scholar would probably give it a good once over, checking for poison, or a bad Hornblower pie. Most of the others would lift it and see if there's 500 LP underneath it. And THEN swipe it.

If it is at any of my house food shelfs:

1. Try to recall when i set there.
2. Look at it carefully for any signs of spoiling.
3. Smell it.
4. Cut a tiny piece.
5. Taste it.

If Pass all the tests, proceed to eat the whole thing!
