[Event] Bread & Jams Theme Night!

Starting March 1st, and continuing every First Friday of the month, Bread & Jam will be host to a monthly Theme Night!

These special versions of the weekly Bread & Jam will be open to every musician from solo artist to full bands, and optional for all as well.

Themes will be chosen via a Poll at crickhollowmusic using suggestions from any player posting in the dedicated forum thread.

You don't even have to be a musician to submit an idea for a Theme.

How about some Middle Earth variety themes? A Shire/hobbit theme for tunes that go with this atmosphere (folk, country, celtic jigs, etc), an Elven theme (classical, lyrical, cinematic soundtracks), a Dwarven theme (heavy stuff, metal, hard rock - puns intended?)
Can even have a Beorning appreciation night with songs about animals, nature etc - things can get pretty wild!

Puts a "face" on theme nights and gives everyone idea of what to expect and prepare for appropriate ambiance. Can mix that in with poetry or story recitals inspired by overall themes. Bonus: attracts both casual music enthusiasts and Tolkien fans alike, inclusive and fun.

(Can't think of a "human-based" theme, but we all play humans anyway in this weird IRL MMO, why not go for something less ordinary?)

I would love to hear many of those Themes, but we also have to balance in the fact that not every band has a catalog of several thousands of songs. I will definitely keep these in mind if we decide to challenge ourselves a bit more.

We had a suggestion of a long run night (tunes that are from 5 to 8 minutes). Some of our best tunes have never been heard at B&J because they are too long.

I have to agree that not everyone has an extensive amount of material. We have only been a band since 2016 and haven't had as much time as others to develop an extensive song book - at least not like some of the folks I've talked with that have been in this for a long time. We just lost our major source of midi's that we have been using since we started (instead of getting downloads in midi format you get an html file) and fear this may occur with other sites due to new copyright and internet regulations involving copyrighted material. As with most music, I can see it getting to the point where if you get a midi your going to have to pay for it. We are currently online searching for more midi sources so we can have a broader range of material. But for now we will be very limited as far as any categories go unless they are very much generalized.

Bread & Jam 60's Night was far out, man. We heard the Monkees, the Stones, the Doors, the Beatles, the Guess Who, the Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Cream, Iron Butterfly, and a ton more!
