I was able to skip the intro area once. I can't remember how to do it. Does anyone remember how to skip the intro area?

You mean the "let me teach you how to swing a sword and search a bag" tutorial?
On the second character creation screen, where you name your character and play with their looks, there is a checkbox down the bottom with "Skip Tutorial" (or something to that effect).
I don't think there's a way to skip the introductory area where you learn your first class skills before getting your Novice status and being pushed out into the real world.
I know how to skip the tutorial. I did skip the intro area once. I gave me a warning saying that it will be harder if u skip the intro area.

There are two: skip the new player tutorial (described by Ozeagle above) and skip the introductory area. The latter is an option you get once you complete it on another character of the same race. It was an option you had when you talked to the first NPC in the tutorial (give me quest or let me skip tutorial or let me skip all and put me in the real game world). With all the changes, I'm not sure if it's the same now though.

Not available anymore sadly.
Turbine wants everyone to get that mailed present of temptations from the TP store now.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
AFAIK you need to be VIP to be able to skip the tutorial.
They could just give us the bag of temptations anyway. I think it's more likely an anti-exploit device making you take a half hour to an hour before starting to get sell-able items and Deeds. To me, it's just annoying.
Fair enough. It's often easy to overlook the drawbacks you're already protected from.
I think the annoying thing is there is not an exhaustive list of what is different between VIP and everything else. I know there are lists. Some of them are wrong. But when you ask advice in-game and people don't know there is a difference (like this topic, for instance) or check inaccurate information from the main site or usually trustworthy sites, things become frustrating. Not everyone knows there is a difference in many ways.
I will say, thank Turbine for at least letting us skip the tutorial.

Yeah, there was/is a huge problem with RMT and gold farming in Final Fantasy XI, it's amazing how much that can really ruin a game. They completely trashed the in game economy, monopolized whole areas of the game, and sent mass tells advertising their services over and over and over again until they got banhammered, and then they would just roll another character on a free trial and do it all over again.
And yeah, I know how you feel concerning F2P/Premium/VIP and what you keep moving from one to another. The info is out there, but you really have to check out a few different sites and compare them. /Advice can be helpful sometimes, but other times I've found it completely broken and taken over be people arguing over mining points and the like...

100 tp
Tindalas is Laurelin's negative nancy. (Felathurin aka Brunt)
The only way that I know of to skip the intro area is to buy "Veteran Status" from the Lotro Store for 100 TP.
Thiranigor (CPT) - Alyshia (CHN) - Thangoril (RK) - Menthol (GRD) - Eccentrica (MIN) - Ederoth (HNT)
Gladden - Shadows of Elendilmir
I just learned something. I knew that the Veteran Status item existed, but had no clue about its use.. Nevertheless, I still run the Intro areas and the Tutorial on every alt that I make. These things have changed at least once since I started playing; so I like to note any differences over time.
