Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0
"Mounts are now toggle skills! They can be quick-slotted like other skills or executed directly from the new Mount panel (Character Journal -> Skills -> Mount). A new keyboard shortcut can be set to promptly access your mounts panel (using Key Mapping Options). Since mounts are now skills, you can feel free to collect all of the available varieties without having your packs fill up – no more having to choose between festival horses or exchanging them at a vendor!"
Read all about the changes to the Mount system and discuss it here!

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0
I'm interested to see if we can play music or heal while mounted. They haven't specified a yes or no with that.

Hehehe you were a bit late with this, I read it a short while ago.
Awesome dev diary though, I can't wait.

They said no heals, that's a combat skill if you look in your skill log.

I didn't think they would let us harvest on horseback for ore, wood, etc.... but I was hoping
Oh well... Still sounds great. Now I am just worried about it looking really weird to see people always on their horses in the "city areas"

What's wrong with people riding their horses down the street? People do it all the time in "the old days". It is just like a car. The streets are made for horses to travel through.

"File this one under “Quality of Life” improvements."
So ends the diary. Well... to be honest, that's where LotRO has always been weakest to me. QoL improvements, for me personally (and I respect that this may not be true of many other players), should be LotRO's top priority for a while.

It will be interesting to jostle for position around popular vendors and quest-givers now.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0
Now that horses are skills (well soon) is there a way to get our Bree-horse back if we deleted it for space after getting to 35 and getting a regular horse?
For the sake of collecting, I would love to have it back.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0
I asked this elsewhere but this seems like the most appropriate place:

Depending on your class and level, you may have skills that can be used while riding. Hunters and other classes that enjoy swift travelling can use these skills while mounted. In fact, almost every class has at least one skill that can be used on a mount. No combat skills can be executed while mounted, as that would constitute mounted combat and that’s a horse of a different colour!
|
So does this mean that the hunter's speed buff will apply when they are on a mount, and the warden's, and the temporary speed buffs of other classes?

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0
Very interesting read. Overall I think I'm going to like the changes as they're described. I like the process that was taken to morph from what we have to what we'll get. Seems like great care was taken to ensure that the change process didn't become a nightmare if something went awry.
I see the new system as a way to allow mounted combat in the future, like when Rohan is released. Right now we have a Basic Riding skill, which allows riding the horse. I can see this system requiring some sort of advanced riding skill to do more than that, as well as one or more special skills that are mounted only.
Although I'm not too thrilled about letting folks talk to NPCs from horseback, since I view this as being rude and uppity. Come on, get off your high horse and talk eye to eye with them (pun intended). Being a "hero" doesn't make you better than them. Being a hero does not make you upper class. I could, however, see this being tied to reputation. So the greater your reputation with the NPC the more tolerant they become towards your being "rude" to them. Yeah, won't happen, but still...
As for emotes, there are some that you can do now (such as /wave) that will show up in the chat window but doesn't do the animation.
Overall I think that the choices of what to allow and what to restrict is good. I may not agree with all of it, but I'll wait until SoM is live and see for myself what the impact is. No matter what, I'm still going to have fun...

Well, I wouldn't mind it with the people who say...
"Is your need so great that you must bother me?"
"Do NOT trouble me if your need is not urgent!"
"Pray your need is worthy of my time!"

I don't really see why people have a problem with this. Any movie you see where people ride horses...fantasy, western, whatever...people always talk to other people from horses as they ride past.
Example: You are riding through town and you see a lady in distress on the side of the street, you ride up toward her and she runs to your side and begs you to go save her daughter from some thugs that just captured her. You "accept" the quest and gallop off to save the day.
There was no need to get off your horse for that quest. Other quests that are located in doors will require you to get off and go inside but for people standing outside, I don't see a problem at all with someone talking to them from their horse. Everyone does it in the movies.
