What is going on with crit item barters?
I'm getting Metalsmith mats for my Weaponsmith items and Jeweler mats for my Scholar crit items.
My scholar just bartered stacks of Glossy and Elegant Eyes, and I now have Chunks of Pink Rock Salt, which are used by jewelers.

Well, this is where the problems come in on how the crit items have changed and why I really dis-like the change.
Some crit items can now be traded for crit items in different vocations. You have to choose which vocation to trade them for. For example, Great Claws were a crit item for several vocations.....if you trade them, you have to choose which vocation to use. Make sure to scroll down on the tradeable list and so not take the first item shown.
Just when you think you have all the answers - they change the questions.

Re: What is going on with crit item barters?
The trade is not one for one. In the old system Great Claws could be used for almost every profession thus there are lines in the Barter Vendor which give
Great Claw -> Chunk of Blue Rock Salt
Great Claw -> Chunk of Dusty Brimstone
Great Claw -> Golden Flax Fiber
Great Claw -> Soft Whetstone
Deadly Claw -> Soft Whetstone
Great Claw -> Drop of Soft Resin
Great Claw -> Chunk of Yellow Rock Salt.
Dusty Tail -> Chunk of Yellow Rock Salt
I took about four hours this afternoon deciding how to trade stuff in so that I would evenly distribute my items.

I thought the point was to simplify crafting and reduce the mass amounts of **** that get dropped and stored? Why on earth would they make it worse?

...because it's Turbine, if there is a way to complicate something, they will find it...
Holy ****, sounds like I just traded all my claws for one thing....and I'm supreme master in all tradeskills, so looks like only one will have a bunch
Hell they could have warned us in the patch notes.
......and you guys go ahead and have fun figuring out how it is all my fault and turbine is god.

They did make it simpler. Many production crafts had more than one critical item per tier. Further confusion because some items - great claws - were used by more than one profession. Even more confusion, there was no rationale naming convention for the critical items. You get something like a claw. What all professions use this claw? for which recipes? what tier?
Now it is simple. There are six scholar critical items. They are all the same type. I would have been nicer if there was one tier 5 critical item used all profession. It going to greatly simply my inventory because I have have all professions covered. There was no possibility of full coverage.

Re: What is going on with crit item barters?
They've gone from 38 items to 36 which doesn't seem like much improvement but that was actually over 60 combinations of item to craft/level. Also, they now stack to 100 instead of 20 and no item is used by more than one craft or at more than one level.

Re: What is going on with crit item barters?
Although I can see the point to it, I'm rather annoyed at the application.
And I sort of wish they would stop changing things, becuase now I'll have to go work out a new crafting crit item drop and profession list. Again.

Well, I find this is one time that I disagree with you.
Unless you know specifically how you want to trade the items which cover more than one vocation, it is not simple. I have a stack of great claws. One stack. All vocations. Which vocation do I trade them for? Do I try and make a trade to even out the number for each vocation? Now, instead of 1 stack of great claws, I have 6 stacks of very few crit items.
For the most part, the change was intended to be an improvement. I think they could have improved the whole system by simply adding the name of vocation(s) to the tool tip and to increase the stack sizes.
Just when you think you have all the answers - they change the questions.

Aw, [expletive]!!! I wish I would have read this before trading in 14 stacks of tailor mats and getting almost no tailor mats in return.

Re: What is going on with crit item barters?
Well, having unfortunately assumed this was similar to previous changes involving bartering your items for the new items du jour, I bartered all my elegant eyes for rock salt, all 42, which of course my scholar can't use (and I don't have a jeweller toon). Due to the somewhat misleading nature of this barterfest, when compared to previous ones (sorry, I don't read all the tooltips of what I barter for when every time in the past, there was only one possible option to barter to), has anyone had any luck submitting a ticket and getting them to refund the barter items to try again?
As it is, I just screwed myself out of a lot of crit items that took hours to farm for a bunch that are useless.

Well this is just lovely...ticket closed, we don't replace items, blah, blah, bull****. Give me a break, I just lost 42 items I could have used to make crit pots for vendor trash worth 174s.
Bravo, Turbine. Can you do anything without pissing people off?

Re: What is going on with crit item barters?
To add insult to injury, I used to know where to farm Elegant Eyes, and could easily do so with my hunter for my Scholar (Level 36 LM). Now I find out the Lamps, the new mat, can only be farmed from Scholar nodes (and random drops from humanoids), which I won't be able to access for another 20 or so levels on my LM.
Why...
