X-Fi BSOD Issue Persists

Looks like this issue still isn't fixed. I was swift traveling from 21st to Crossroads and got the dreaded "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AR EA" BSOD with hardware sound on with my X-FI XtremeMusic. Quite a letdown after getting my hopes up that this would finally be fixed in Book 8.

Still persists for me too.

Thanks for teasing me by letting me listen to 15 minutes of amazing sound before it crashed

Re: X-Fi BSOD Issue Persists

Well, that's just fan-****ing-tastic. I was REALLY hoping this issue would be fixed, as playing with software audio blows. I should have known better than to get my hopes up.

Me too! This has been broken since freakin' BETA! I was also excited to see a possible fix and boom, blue screen with the same old errors. I see you are still using OpenAL32.dll 6.14.357.22. Maybe try the recently released 6.14.357.24? It claims to fix some bugs.

Back to the drawing board guys.

Grr.

I'll have to talk to Creative again. We implemented a suggested fix from them, but as we were unable to repro in-house to prove the fix; we were relying on their expertise for correctness.

Back to investigating it some more.

Bunsen,

I'd just like to say that it makes all the difference in the world to see your reply. Just knowing (directly) that the persistence of this issue has been noted, and that you're still looking into it makes a world of difference where frustration level is concerned. So, thank you!

Please post again if you need us to send in (new) crashdumps as we did prior.

Thanks again!

Can the community help give you information you are looking for?
I was over-zealous and turned on my x-fi in the audio, only to be shown a fat blue screen moments later after a swift travel.

If not, and you must reproduce it in-house, add a creative x-fi card (I'm using the titanium version) and download the drivers from their website.
I've had the crashes on vista, windows 7 Beta, and windows 7 RC1.

Make sure you go to the audio options in LOTRO, and select the x-fi (defaults to software audio).

Then zone around, you should crash after no more than four swift travels.
Least that's what I've noticed between three 2 operating systems :/

Re: X-Fi BSOD Issue Persists

Weird thing is that when I logged in earlier in the day at the 21st I messed around doing vault organizing and crafting, and no BSOD. I log in later in the evening and mess with an alt in Esteldin before deciding to swap his crit items in MD and take a swift horse from Bree to MD. Get off horse and mount my horse, and before I can go a few strides, BAMO, BSOD!

Don't know what gives, but disappointed to say the least. Maybe it was the power of positive thinking at work earlier that kept me crash free .

Please fix.

Re: X-Fi BSOD Issue Persists

Sadly I still get the crash too, only it honestly seems worse now. Before it would pretty much be isolated to horse routes in Moria and bree. Now I was riding my own mount through the shire and got punted. Oh how I desire to hear the glory of my hardware audio... I'm so depressed. The patch notes got me so excited...

Yep. BSOD'in still. I installed 64 bit win 7 just to see if going 64 bit would allow me to get my tasty Very High textures back, as my vista 32 bit/4 gig ram kept biting it after moria came online, and it worked, for a while. As soon as I hit the 21st hall I BSOD'd. Removed all the OpenAL32.dll from Windows/system and windows/system32 to see if that changed anything, but haven't had the time to turn VH textures back on to tempt fate. I'll gladly send you any items you need for testing in trade for a lifetime account!

Update:
VH textures on, SB X-FI selected (not Generic Software)
From clean boot, lasted a minute or two in 21st. BSOD. Clean restart, lasted 2 minutes in 21st, went to MD->Party tree. learned dance_hobbit2, got drunk. ported to thorin's to do dwarf quest. While running up the steps to get to thorin's BSOD with endless sound loop:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFFF831A0000,0x00000000 00000000,0xFFFFF80002AEF040,0x 00000000000000000005)

How could you possibly not be able to reproduce this error? It happens consistently.

The steps to reproduce are quite simple:

1. Install Vista/Win7 64bit.
2. Install Creative X-fi soundcard with latest drivers
3. Install LoTRO and play it in hardware sound mode for a little while
4. Experience BSoD

Talking Re: X-Fi BSOD Issue Persists

Count me in. BSOD after about 15 minutes of playing. Ported to Esteldin and was riding my horse over to the tailor guild hall... BSOD. I switched to hardware from generic once I logged in because it was listed as fixed. Not so unfortunately.

Bunsen, send one of the Creative guys over to my house. It'll only take a few minutes to replicate....
