One Kinship to Rule Them All!
WHAT IS THE “ONE KINSHIP TO RULE THEM ALL” KINSHIP CONTEST?
The contest is a leveling race. The kinships that level up the most and the fastest will win! Starting at noon EDT on May 21 and running through noon EDT on June 15, every new character created is tracked in a special database.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
New characters earn points for their kinship by gaining levels, and you can follow your kinship’s progress via a new leaderboard in the Lorebook. Only characters added to a kinship after the contest has begun can earn points. Players will need to create new characters or recruit friends to join their kinship's adventure in Middle-earth in order to earn points – existing characters do not count toward the point totals. Points will only be awarded to the first kinship a character joins during the promotion – choose wisely.
WHO CAN WIN?
The Kinship Contest runs on all servers, and each will have its own winners. There are multiple ways of winning:
- The kinship with the most points overall for each game world
- The kinship with the most points per member for each game world
- The kinship containing the single top character in each server world (based on total points gained by that member and how fast they are achieved in the event of a tie)
- The One Kinship to Rule Them All – The Kinship with the most points overall across all servers
WHAT IS THE PRIZE?
The winning kinships will receive pre-payment for its Kinship Hall for up to a year! Don’t have a kin hall yet? We’ll give your kin a hall and pay the upkeep for 6 months!
PLUS – The one kinship that earns the most points across all servers will receive a special badge for their my.lotro.com page to let everyone know that they are The One Kinship to Rule Them All.
RULES
- The rules are simple:
- You must have an active account to participate.
- Only new characters created during the contest count towards the earning of points
- Points cannot be transferred from one kinship to another
- Points cannot be transferred to another server
- One prize per winning kinship (ie. if a kinship wins more than one event it still only gets one prize)
- Prizes will be awarded only on the server where the winning kinship earned its points
- All standard game rules apply – characters that get banned will not count toward the kinship totals
- Point display on the leaderboard is for player tracking purposes only. Final winner selection will be made based on a review of the completed contest database by Turbine. Accounts which are inactive or ineligible at the end of the contest will be removed from the point total prior to winner selection.
NOTE: Questions about the event should be directed to the LOTRO Forums – Turbine Customer Service cannot assist you with issues related to this contest.
Good luck, and start leveling!

Re: One Kinship to Rule Them All!
How exactly are you getting punished? I didn't read anything about shutting down kinships who don't participate.

Re: One Kinship to Rule Them All!
Well, it's certainly true that not every contest can appease everyone...
I for one think this contest is a neat idea to bring people back to the low-level areas. "don't focus on your main for a while, grind up a few alts instead."
Considering RKs and Wardens were already in Moria within a week, there are definitely going to be some kins with huge point values in this contest as a result. I just wish they had already revamped some of the content between 16-41 before implementing this, so that it wouldn't be such a painful grind...
But, I guess I now know when I'll be starting my Captain.

Igie's kinship is going to win. No sense trying.

Actually two of the four methods of winning are very achievable for small kinships:
- The kinship with the most points per member for each game world
- The kinship containing the single top character in each server world (based on total points gained by that member and how fast they are achieved in the event of a tie)
The first method I listed is better for smaller kinships as bigger kinships are more likely to have more people that don't participate. The second method has little at all to do with size of kinship.

It also only counts for new characters created during the contest duration. Sorry, I have 7 slots filled and I'm not willing to delete one for this contest. This punishes players who already have their characters started.

At least in a pissing contest everyone can pee.
I know you are trying to create a fun event for people to participate in, but seriously, you really are punishing smaller kinships, and you are punishing players who are not willing to sacrifice an alt to be able to participate. Also most servers can probably already pick which kinships are going to win this particular event - the kinships that always push hardest and fastest will of course. Whoever thought this up should take a good hard look at interpersonal dynamics before ever being allowed to make a contest again.
Edit: Just saw Tarant's post - ok, so there are options taht will favour smaller kins - but my point about being forced to create a new character stands. And sure it's a nice idea to put people back in the lower zones but really, most people who will be successful at this are those who are willing to zoom up in levels. Who levels fastest is not always who has the most fun. Some of us prefer content quality over quantity, and having pressure from peers to "hurry up and level already" is not really fun.

Actually the contest is set up in such a way that smaller kinships with active memberships have an equal opportunity. Reread the ways to win and you'll find "The kinship with the most points per member".
That's all tied to how active any given member of your kin is. Not how many active members you have.

Re: One Kinship to Rule Them All!
whoever thought of this should get a raise imo.
it's truely brilliant: a very low cost solution to get many people playing again, and it's quite easy to get the data on turbines part.
here's to everyone having another alt ready to go for book 8

Re: One Kinship to Rule Them All!
Many in my kin already have all their characters slots filled. At any rate I don't like the idea of a leveling contest. I'd rather people take their time and enjoy the content, not race through it :/
