Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
How it works:
Each week we'll be asking you questions, and here in our thread, you tell us: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand.
Ground Rules:
Because we want this to be a place where we can gather valuable feedback from our community we're going to be a little tougher on the rules enforcement here. Please read both the Ground Rules and the Forum Guidelines posts before you do anything else. These will be strictly enforced.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Question 1:
You’ve been hired as a class dev for a day. You can choose 1 existing class and assign it primary and secondary roles. Which class would you choose and what primary and secondary roles would you assign to it?
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
Have fun!

Burglar: Debuff/Burst DPS
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
1) Light quest areas to just enjoy and explore
2) Year round horse races with longer tracks. Like first one from west Bree to Hobbiton.
3) Cosmetic weapons/shields slots
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
1) More ranks/titles
2) Kin calendar or BB (some thing to list kin events in game)
3) Better permission options on kin house chests

More to housing! Add more storage (another chest or two per house, please!) and more hooks and other items so that we can really decorate and customize it. Lots of neat ideas on the forums already on how to do that.
I'd love to see something that would allow you to add notes to what you post on the AH. Let us be able to put in a sales spiel- why you should by my stuff as opposed to the other stuff on there that looks just like it.
I'd also love to have a "notes" section on each character page, on my maps, and on my social page so I can make my own notes on what I'm doing, why I'm doing them, where I know people from, why I want to know them, etc.

Custom kinship titles is the one that I've been talking about. Used to have them in UO, and it seems like they'd be easy enough to implement. Only officers could assign them, and they'd have to meet filter requirements. Individuals could choose to show their kinship title or not, and would be in addition to the other titles (though that part isn't necessary, but would be nice) Lots of fun can be had with them.
A kin calendar that can be accessed in game would be really nice. Also would love to see a bulletin board or something in game that kin members can post messages to the kinship as a whole. Would fit into the kin house very nicely.
I don't PvP much, but I also don't begrudge those who do. Both groups are important
Firefoot: Elendale (hunter), Rhoargrim (RK), Galorlas (champ); Landroval: Gilgalrandir (hunter)

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Question 1:
Burglar
Primary Role: Debuffer
Secondary Role: Crowd Control (I would be happy with DPS too, if the crowd control isn't going to be expanded out beyond humanoids especially, just make burglars a real DPS class)
I would expand both functions of the class, primarily to offset the loss to class power through the intentional waning of the Conjunction mechanic.
Question 2:
1) More Dress up, more costume pieces
2) Events, things like the riddle master just showing up randomly and playing around with people. I don't know if this is possible currently, but back in EQ it was a blast whenever the GMs would spawn in some monsters and do something like PVP, only Devs vs Players.
3) More hobbies. Brewing for example.
Question 3:
1) Expanded Kin housing. Repair stations for example. Much more storage. The limited storage can make sharing items a bit hard at times. Maybe furniture that can be used as crafting stations?
2) Kinship Buffs. Possibly something like Furniture you can get raiding, or is just very very rare, that grants the whole kinship some minor effect. Some resists, or an XP bonus, maybe small amounts of regen.
3) Kinship guides. The ability for a kinship to hire "guides", Rangers who can take kin members to specific camp sites. Effectively just NPCs that stand around and will send you to the location they are associated with.

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Burglar: Debuffer/dps - crowd control seems to be less and less important these days.
Fluff: more events where dev controlled mobs are brought into the world ie: amarthial
new hobbies: kite flying/fireworks/etc
boats!
Kinships: Firstly these should all be achieved as ranks after 10
- blog type entry that officers/leaders can edit - those messages of the day are too short and get drowned out by chat spam from joining all the channels on log in. no body really sees them
- allow us to have allied kins (officially) and let us see our allied kins online/offline status!
- a page similar to the blog that outlines progress of everyone in the kin, ie: Champ1 hit 45, Hunter2 finished the riddle chain in rivendel, 12people got the watcher etc...
edit: first 3 posts all about burgs eh!

Tough one...I'll stick with Minstril. Hard as it is to say....
Primary group management (healing/buffing)
Secondary, crowd control, medium/light DPS

*) More hobby's IE: Competitive year round horse/obstacle racing w/leaderboards
*) More robust housing system w/more decorations. No more "hooks" or at the very least allow more hooks in the homes. At least Asheron's Call had more hooks than you could equip to give you more options...
*) cosmetic weapons/shields. Allow certain shields to be made with whatever style they want (some of the coolest shields in the game are for n00bs) At least make them cosmetic.
and a 4th I just have to sneak in...More DEV events. Random attacks, riddle master....make the world feel more alive. Random small dev/monster raids on Free peoples camps IE Trestlebridge. Anyone in the surrounding area would get a horn and pop-up stating "Trestlebridge is under attack, the defenders call for aid!"

*) Craftable kinskhip cloaks/flags/banners
*) More "usable" kinship hall. Higher ranks should get bankers, minor crafting stations, repair stations, more storage, more housing hooks or free placement of decorations.
*) Allow custom titles for members of the group. IE more than member or officer. Allow leaders to set 3-5 additional titles for fluff. Titles could go through same approval process as naming conventions

Question 1:
You’ve been hired as a class dev for a day. You can choose 1 existing class and assign it primary and secondary roles. Which class would you choose and what primary and secondary roles would you assign to it?
Burglar:
Primary role: debuffing
close secondary role: dps
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
*Reserved for later editing...comin' up blank atm*
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
1. Introduce a position below leader and above officer which can promote and demote people up to an officer level but cannot demote the leader or successor.
2. Introduce crafting benches, forges, etc...into kin houses after the kin reaches a certain rank. (This would encourage more kin fellowship.)
3. Add the capability to the mylotro kinship pages for kin members to view what books each other are on (to make it easier to play kin "book nights"), as well as a sort of "LFF" function on the page for kin members to look for groups for tougher quests or instances.

Question 1:

I would say Guardian as its my primary class and its only really got one defined function (tanking). Not sure what I would do with it though. Rework the DPS line maybe.
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
1. More hair/beard styles
2. More cosmetic equipment (variety in backpacks, cosmetic cloaks, hats, etc.)
3. Not really fluff in the normal sense but the ability to go back and redo quests (no reward) for the fun of it.
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
1. Ranks - Custom ranks with attribute values (able to invite, promote, change motd, officer chat, etc.)
2. Alliances! Give kinships the ability to form a real alliance in game with a UI, dedicated Alliance chat channel and alliance officers channel. Look to DAoC for inspiration!
3. Semi-custom kinship logos made from combinations of pre determined logos, colors and enhancements. Again see DAoC for inspiration. These should be able to be applied to cloaks, and possibly shield faces and banner like decoration items.
Sigram Stonebeard, GRD and Sigrik Stonebeard, Healing RK + many other alts: At your service!
Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-męnu!

Question 1:
You’ve been hired as a class dev for a day. You can choose 1 existing class and assign it primary and secondary roles. Which class would you choose and what primary and secondary roles would you assign to it?
Lore Master:
CC
Debuffing
Already has those roles, but I would like to see more boss fights that involve CC enough for it to seem like a primary role to me.
<edit> In fairness, Burglar is the class that needs this the most. They need a specialty beyond fellowship starters.
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
Cosmetic weapons/shields
Upgrade to the fishing system to make it more interactive
Free form housing placement
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
In game calender to help with scheduling
Ability to form official alliances with other kinships
Custom titles (beyond just recruit, member, officer, leader)
My Captain's quest to reach 60 without dying: level 57 and going strong
60 LM - 60 RK - 60 Guard - 60 Min - 60 Champ - R6 Warg

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Question 1:
Warden
Primary Role: Off-tank (would need to further develop the need/use of off-tanks in the game)
Secondary Role: Debuff/Fellowship Maneuvers (I don't know why, but I see a little bit of the burglar in the warden. I think this would be a cool secondary role for them)
Question 2:
1. Fluff based live-events - Something like a GM run hide-and-go-seek game.
2. A little more flexibility with housing (I know free-form decorating is a bit much to ask for, but maybe some compromise. More hooks maybe?)
3. Would love to see some more welcoming furniture for housing. I have my one room done up like a study, and everything looks great but the uncomfortable looking chair. WTB Leather armchairs?
Question 3 (This is the question I've been waiting for):
1. Kin bank and chest changes. This is honestly my biggest one, and if the other 2 don't happen but this does, I'd be in heaven. I would love to be able to make one chest accessible by officers, one by members and officers, and one for recruits and up. Bank would be to store kin gold for housing upkeep and to purchase stuff for the kin, different permissions for deposits and withdrawals. Would I be pressing my luck to ask for an access log?
2. Some rewards for kins to look forward to after Rank 7.
3. Alliance functions. Help to streamline communication between allied kins.

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Question 1:
Guardian
Primary: Tank (what I love about my main)
Secondary: I'll take any secondary role. Just give us one!
If I have to answer: either CC or Buff.
Question 2:
Cosmetic shields
Question 3:
I know I am in the minority (probably the only one), but kins are vastly overrated.
Drop kins and expand friends' list -- less drama, less whining, less frustration = more enjoyment.
I was pondering ... am I just plain stupid or hopelessly apathetic? My conclusion ... I don't know and I don't care!!

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Question 1:
You’ve been hired as a class dev for a day. You can choose 1 existing class and assign it primary and secondary roles. Which class would you choose and what primary and secondary roles would you assign to it?
Captain:
Primary; Buffer (pls make lvl 60 War banners better than lvl 50 ones)
Secondary; DPS/healer. Pet's are ok but certainly don't define the class.
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
1) I generally don't like fluff and I think it's a waste of resources. I don't participate in any hobbies nor do I have a desire to. Festivals have no interest for me.
2) Exception is events like the moors chickens which I would have loved to see.
3) World events such as a random (dev controlled) dragon touching down somewhere would be neat. Amarthial was kind of neat - need more like it. Or even allow player controlled session play into the world, the session player would gain destiny points for every player killed and any players involved in killing it would get a chance at loot.
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
1) Officer storage chests
2) Kinship guides. The ability for a kinship to hire "guides", Rangers who can take kin members to specific camp sites. Effectively just NPCs that stand around and will send you to the location they are associated with.
3) Crafting bench (maybe gated somehow - or even a quest reward or trophy drop from a difficult mob).

Re: Tell the Community Team - 4/30/2009
Question 1:
You’ve been hired as a class dev for a day. You can choose 1 existing class and assign it primary and secondary roles. Which class would you choose and what primary and secondary roles would you assign to it?
Answer: I would take the Minstrel. I would give its primary role to be sound-based DPS and healing hybrid, a new type of damage instead of tactical, with instruments that heavily impact how sound effects damage and healing abilities. It's Secondary role would be buffing.
Question 2:
Everybody likes fluff (Chicken play, tag, festivals). Name three (3) kinds of Fluff you'd like to see added to LOTRO.
Answer: Instance-based working enviroments, much like a housing neighboorhood but instead of having houses, you would have player-bought shops, player-owned resource gathering and crafting plots, and year-round mini games available to those who have high reputation with the Area's main department. For example, the Shire worklot would have Hobbit games that need a certain standing with Inn League to begin playing, perhaps golf?
It promotes an area for a community to develope and expand on that the neighboorhoods have failed to do.
Question 3:
You're given the opportunity to improve the value and management of Kinships in LOTRO. What three(3) features would you add to the Kinship system to meet these goals?
Answer: Kinship player buffs, that are distributed based on special items that are in possession of the kinship house. These could range from anything really, and would add depth and reason to getting tons of trophies from bossess. The buffs would not apply to regular housing.
I don't care for kinship flags/cloaks ever since that got hammered out the window.
And I really don't think anything dynamic could be done other then making Kinships capable of taking terrority in some sort of area.
