The book 11 patch has introduced new pets for lore-masters - the lynx, and some on the more cuddly side. This is a guide to the non-combat pets introduced in this book.
Requirements:
*Must have completed book 2 of the epic series
*Must be at least level 24, preferably much higher
*Must have the passive skill/trait "Friend of the Wild," granted after completing a 3-part quest given by Radagast the Brown.
The Quest:
If you are not level 40+, you will want to bring friends as you will encounter level elite mobs around the level 30 range. Speak with any lore-master trainer. He or she will direct you to speak with Radagast the Brown, who would like your help in continuing to help the poor creatures of Agamaur. Go to the Eglain incampment inside Agamaur (not Ost Guruth) and enter Radagast's tower. Radagast well send you on a quest to find a lost hare west of the entrance to Garth Argawen. The hare is tucked around a corner by the northernmost gate to Garth Argawen (Picture). Use the scroll Radagast gives you to summon the hare, then simply run back to Radaghast. You have a 5-minute time-limit.Next, Radagast will tell you to rescue a turtle in the Northwestern parts of Agamaur. He is in a small tree-stump next to some walled ruins in the northwestern corner (Picture). Again, you have a 5-minute time-limit to run back to Radagast. Finally, you are asked to rescue a sparrow in the middle of the red swamp of the west parts of Agamaur. The sparrow is in a tree surrounded by water (Picture). Lead the sparrow back in 5 minutes and you have completed all of his tasks.
Note: I tested and found out that you can actually be summoned by a captain while escorting the pets back to Radagast. This might be a bug. At the moment you can have a captain summon you to the location of the pets then summon you back to Radagast if you are too low to kill things yourself in Agamaur. However, it is still very easy to aggro in the areas that the pets are, so it is not advisable to do this unless you have help. You may also mount to escort the pet back if you are an appropriate level.
Quest Rewards:
*New Title: "Friend of the Wild"
*New Passive Skill: "Friend of the Wild"
*New Skill: "Rabbit-Speech"
The Pets: *Cat: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Dog: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Fox: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Frog: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Hare: Obtained by quest given by Radagast the Brown *Snake: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Sparrow: Reputation item from the Elves of Rivendell (requires Kindred standing) *Squirrel: World Drop (level 45+ areas) *Turtle: Reputation item from the Mathom Society (requires Ally standing)
Things you should know about your pet:
*You can rename your small pet by clicking on them and typing /pet rename [petnamehere] (Thanks Felic!)
*Your non-combat pet will replace your regular combat pets if you have it out, so be sure to de-summon your non-combat pet before you plan to fight! You cannot have both non-combat and combat pets out at once.
*The tomes for the Hare, Turtle, and Sparrow are bind-on acquire and therefore not tradeable. You must complete the appropriate quests or attain the appropriate reputation level to learn one. The rest of the pets are tradeable.
If anyone discovers more of the non-combat pets in the world, post here or send me a PM!

Now that I have outgrown the Shire I am really looking forward to fun little quests like this, and I spend enough time running around without expecting combat that I really look forward to using the pets.
"There are many powers in the world, for good and for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming. "
I forgot to mention that the quest is level 29, BUT it is very, very hard to solo at that level, or any level where the mobs aren't grey. It is Agamaur after all. I'm planning on doing the quest on my 27 LRM with other higher LRMs from my guild when the book goes live. You need a group of at least 3 or 4 people to do this quest I would think, though. Unless you just run for it.
There is also a bug with the bunny where if yu summon it and then mount, the bunny will disappear and not come back. However, the game will still THINK you have a pet out, so you can't summon another combat pet until you log, die, or map. So just be careful to dismiss your hare before mounting up.

Hmm, my hare stays just as my combat-pets do when I mount. You can't see him like you can the combat ones but when I dismount, there he is. At least this was the case Wednesday when I first got him and was showing him off everywhere. Got a new black lynx I am showing off now
I can confirm that you get the Tome Of Sparrow for Bird-Speech from the rep system in Rivendell. That might be where some of the other critters are hiding as well.
I got the bunny last night! 3 of us teamed up to find it and is it ever cute. If you have the level 50 on Roheryn, it isn't hard at all, but if in the 20's or 30's you may want to team up on it. As far as the bug goes, they must have fixed it as i mounted while carrying the sparrow and didn't lose it. Only downfall is that you cana't name your new little buddies! That is a bit disappointing, but we can live with it.

Okay! Bunny, sparrow...
What are the six others?
I hope for your sake that cats are one of them.

The sparrow wasn't the pet we were going after, but we had to go get a bunny, a turtle and a sparrow and bring them back to Raddy to get the bunny pet. That is just one of the 8 new pets Will go after the others at some point.

As for the bug where you mount with the bunny, I must have done something odd to trigger the bug. I was mounting and running around with my bunny all day yesterday and had no problems.
Glad to see someone's found the sparrow, I will update the thread.
The sparrow was NOT the pet! It was part of the quest to get the bunny. to get the bunny, you have to rescue 3 different critters and bring each back to Raddy, at the end you get the bunny for a pet. BTW, the turtle was awful cute too.

I take it you didn't follow the link I included? A link to a post in this same thread?
Unless I have misunderstood and a reputation item needs to be purchased in Rivendell just to complete Radagast's quest.

You're right it's not the pet that you get from the quest, HOWEVER it is a pet that you can get from elsewhere after completing this quest.
I agree that the turtle was cute, I was hoping to get that one.
My 50 LM checked with several trainers (all cities and a few towns) and Raddy in Ost and there are no quests. I haven't done any of the Chapters with this LM and have had this 50 since the first bestower.
Is getting the Hare quest have a prereq somewhere? Quite baffled at why I can't find the quest. Could this quest be bugged and only given to new lvl 50s from the recent live event?

Thanks,

Perhaps book 2 is a requirement for this.. I didn't do much with my LRM before getting the quest, but I did finish all the books. Talk to Tens the kitty to get it done.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure you must complete book 2. You have to talk to the second Radaghast in the tower in Agamaur, NOT the one in Ost Guruth. His quest is a follow-up on the book 2.8 instance.
im starting to think that the other pet quests can be attained by visiting non-trainer npcs... the cat lady for example... please peel your eye out and report here as soon as you find them. I think the pets are in the game, but the devs want us to discover where they are.
I still don't know why the devs are not answering our question though, whether they are in the test server or not.

Well I was asking people, not devs. I personally think it's fun to find the different creatures for ourselves The devs aren't going to tell us!
I'm logging onto Roheryn right now to do some more exploring.
EDIT: I checked out the Bree cathouse, nothing out of the ordinary as far as I can tell.

have you tried farmer Magget(sp?) the hobbit, who in the books told off a wraith/rider with his 3 wolf like/breed dogs. he would make sense to talk to get a puppy/dog pet. just an idea. also there is a hobbit in Stable(sp?) that breeds dogs you try.
I'm logging onto Roheryn to check all 2 as we speak. Is there any way to boost your rep on Roheryn without grinding it? I wanted to check other rep vendors but my character isn't good enough.
EDIT:
Nothing from Eldo Swatmidge, Forsaken Inn, or Elrond. I have a hunch that we might find one in the new trollshaws area, which I am going to explore later.

I asked Fellon, who posted quite a bit of stuff from various reputation vendors in this thread if there were any non-combat loremaster pets for sale, and he replied with sparrow and turtle, but did not mention any others. So, five more still out there somewhere. If they are spreading them around different game mechanics, we'll probably see one as a drop and perhaps another as a barter reward and maybe even a straight up vendor purchase... (anyone checked the loremaster trainers for new vendor options?)

Thanks! I'm so stoked about the turtle, that was the one I really wanted!
So, umm, how does it keep up with you? Does it have wings?

My thoughts exactly. Its pathing must be *awesome*...
EDIT: Or it sits in a pocket or on a shoulder, but that would be an entirely new mechanic.

I can't wait for this to come out so we can find more mini-pets. They are just so cute. I'd better start farming blackberry honey so I can get the rep to get a turtle come patch time.

Leash...
In the recent interview with Jeff Steefle, it was mentioned that the non-combat pets are: turtle, cat, squirrel, sparrow, dog, snake, rabbit and frog. It wasn't a direct quote, but I see little reason to assume it isn't correct.
