Re: Game System: Tavern Revelries
So I just checked out the "Unlock the Mines of Moria" home page. It extols the new arms & armour, the ancient evil deep in the earth that's even stronger than what we've faced so far, the level raise to 60.
How again does any of this relate to the Middle-Earth that JRRT envisioned and that so many of us have come to love through his writings? I admit, I like the talk of crafting weaponry that can grow with you and become imbued with deep traits, like Glamdring and Sting were. But so much of this is so played-out, and so... predictable. Seriously, "Conquer the World Beneath"? Step back, please. Before you go and make a mockery of Middle-Earth.
To any Dev who is actually reading this post, Hayoo has given here a vision of how to give LOTRO a breath of real life, real entertainment, real community-building. A real, honorable way to live the books the way so many of us have envisioned living them. A way to get people jazzed about coming online and staying online. Following this lead could take LOTRO in truly new, amazing directions. You guys have a -gold mine- here for role-players who really want to dive into a mythical world that they already conceive in their minds.
So I implore you, for crying out loud, stop the madness. Don't turn this game into a bunch of over-bulked, hyper-testosteroned, glowing, gleaming demi-Gods who are even able to kill Melkor's finest. That is a path of silliness. Stop, sit back, be true to the world that has been placed in your lap.

Re: Game System: Tavern Revelries
Before you over-analyze the marketing hyperbole for Volume II, understand that the entire point of that language is to make it sound as exciting as possible to lure in new subscribers and keep the old ones. Don't expect to actually 'conquer' anything, including Melkor's finest, as you put it.
Yes sir, we tore the universe a new spacehole alright.

I hope this image doesn't break the page.
In addition to Merriment and Reputation I've been working on Rented Housing for Taverns as well.

Hmm. This might derail thread. Will make another once images are done. Consider this another teaser.Dernière modification par Hayoo ; 16/03/2008 à 01h56.

Re: Game System: Tavern Revelries
Well I posted here once proclaiming what a fantastic idea this was, but I think it's worthy of repetition.
Awesome idea!
By now it's obvious the devs have read it, but I doubt it will be implemented. Which is too bad. The fact that it's very specific and came from a player rather than themselves probably rules it out in their minds.
Pride can be a good thing now and then, but generally it just gums up the works.
Oh well, at least you can take pride
in the knowledge you thought up something that would be great if implemented.

Re: Game System: Tavern Revelries
It comes down to available resources and following the development plans and technical limits they already had in place long before I even started posting anything.
Revelries is a somewhat involved adaptation of Maneuvers. You have to admit it'd be a lot easier to just put a hope or rest XP bonus on the whole tavern (like another game does
) and hope that players gather there and socialize naturally (we already have Bards, Healers, and Barbers in there, even if only in the major towns).
What I hope is that the idea of a non-combat social mini-game, done in locations scattered throughout the game, appeals to some part of their overall plan, whatever form it may take.
Fishing, so they said, wasn't in the plan, but the playerbase called for it so much that it is now coming. That's not to say thousands of supporters will get this idea made, but if enough players say they want something for taverns, then it may make a difference in the future.

My name is TsarithArcher and I approve this message.
BTW, Hayoo, I know it has been said many times over in this thread, but your idea is not only a great one, but you've presented it so very well. Kudos to you!!!
I only wish that more people could do as you have done by providing great suggestions with the same kind of level of attention and detail you have rather than just whine about what they don't like or demand what they think they should have. If more people could follow your example then we would probably see a lot more user-suggestions implemented with each update.
