this is game being do right undepenable about taking a week to update game data and being unable to play something that has been paid for! Looks like by the time it downloads my time will be over!
im sorry you are having trouble, maybe someone could help you speed up your install if you calm down and check the following....
FIREWALLS for one, they can partiality block the download and gum up the process.
Did you install from disc and are simply updating files? if so then you are waisting a ton of time.
Are you on dialup?
After all there must be some reason a two to two and a half hour download is taking so long.
Now even if you are smarter then a monkey and have done/not done or checked these things and you still have to wait a crazy amount of time to download then do the following....
Take ten deep breaths, go for a walk, pretend you are Buddha and exercise patience, after all it will get done eventually. Then you will waste many many more hours of your life on the game its self. I know you are in a rush to go nowhere but if you like Tolkien and very well done and beautiful games then LotRO is worth a few days wait.
You really need to calm down, you are wound way to tight. its just a game after all. And its not like your face is not gonna melt off if you cant use your computer for a few days anyway.
Warden: <===How would you like a spear in the face!?!===>

12 hours so far, and counting ... ever so slowly. I have a 1.5 connection and I'm downloading all game updates on top of the SoA retail installation, something like 35000 files. A little disappointed that the time has to be SO long, especially since it means that this download will definitely exceed my high-speed download quota for this month! An awesome game though, so I guess I should just be patient....
Ok so yeah. The updater is a little slow. Had to do a fresh install recently, due to a hard-drive failure losing the old install a few months ago. Update was going fine for a couple hours, but has now decided to slow to between 0-5kbps. Everything else I try to run that uses the net seems to be running perfectly smoothly, without lag. I've tried restarting the patcher, to no avail. Anyone got any advice on this?
The problem is, is that these people are buying Shadows of Angmar off of the shelf of some videogame store. Those CDs may have been sitting there for three years. LotRO has been patched HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of times since then. What your downloading is patches and additional content (which there is ALOT). When buying a MMORPG it's always best to buy the game and just apply the registration key to your account and download the game directly.
On a side note, downloading a bunch of patches and add-ons always makes me comfortable. To me, it shows that the developers put alot of attention to the game, and that they are willing to fix mistakes, and enhance their game with new content.
I'm at -700% and it be 24 hours straight. I"m some what turned off by how long it is taking but it is what it is, and if I have to wait another 24 I'll wait another 24 cause I know it will be worth the wait.

You may want to close the downloader down and restart it. That usually helps it get a better connection.
to start off i have hughesnet or sat internet slow painstaking and low low dl limit 200 megabytes cap for me cept from 1-6 in the mornin soo i go buy the trusty cds off amazon thinking o well itll be installed in no time and it was from the cds after that it got terrible
1. since my internet goes at from anything of 2 kilobytes up to 99 kilobytes its quite terrible never get sat internet ever.
2. the patcher took a while to get operational luckily i can at least find work a rounds off the internet to work with and i start staying up till 1 took about 4 hours for the good ol programs to finish dling then i look at the game data 35000 files to dl i sat there thinking wow lets hope that each 1 is going to be downloaded really fast unfortunately satelite internet is a very slow and long ping time 1000 ms in other words per file so on top of applying and downloading various files it took about 1:20 minutes at 99kbs to dl a grand total of 2500 files ...
so i decide the next night to go to work with my mom at the hospital it has charter internet much faster and a lot lower ping time so i go to the hospital at 10 o clock at night my mom has the much hated night shift with the laptop i copied the files i downloaded last night with and for the next 8 hours i sat watching on some strange show on cable tv talking to the people that had a bad night and sleeping then at 7 o clock in the morning it had downloaded a grand total of 18000 files thats it 1 night of staying up till 7 after i had stayed up the other night till 5 so when i got home i crashed i crawled to my bed and sleptedtill 8pm even while my brothers dog was jumping on my to wake me up (imagine a really big rat and you have the size of my brothers dog) so all in all if this doesnt qualify as a slow patcher i dont know what does btw even after all that it still has 10-15 hours to finish it
it's something wiggy with the downloader (i think). i have a 50MB/s connection, but mine as well dips as low as 38kb/s. checked firewalls and all other basic hazards, and couldn't find squat...
EDIT: yet in the time it took me to post this, it jumped up to 200kb/s... weird... and very inconsistent...
The Turbine update service is taking a huge hit right now, I'm willing to bet the pipe is full, meaning slower downloads for all, regardless of your advertised connection.
My client updated in 45 minutes today, and I have a craptastic 1 mip down, 500k up connection and my speeds were around 38k like most other people.
If you really want a faster speed, just let things cool off for a few days then update.
Well, this computer downloads everything fast except this game. I was wondering if it's because of the firewall or not. It has taken over 15 hours to get to 34% of it to download. I'm guessing it's going to take another day or two...If anyone could help me out with this, that would be great.
EDIT:It is saying that it will be finished within 7 hours, but it has been saying that for the passed 4 hours...

Reason: mis-spelling
My computer is downloading on average 50kbs for a 1mb line. I have downloaded 3300 of 14270 files. This reminds me of when I loaded Everquest and patched Scars of Velious. I guess I'll play tomorrow.
I have the same problem. I just joined up and I'm at a bit over 1,000 KB/s, but it's been at 13% updated for like half an hour XD
edit: after reading through a few more pages, I closed the program and restarted it....it's now already at 47%, thank you to whoever recommended closing out, for I did not pay attention to see who said it.
Learn to differentiate between a real problem such as "The update didn't take, or won't work" (I do not aim at these complaints), and simple frustration with the fact that you cannot do what you want to do, when you want to do it. The former is what a forum is for.
Why complain heavily over something that is kept up at great expense to the provider, yet bears no cost to you unless you choose to pay for more? When it comes to the LOTRO update process, I think nothing is being taken from you, except your own illusions of perfect, seamless game-play at your beckon call. What's sad is that, one day, these good people's ingenuity will achieve just that for you, but you will have learned nothing about gratefulness beforehand. Hence you will find for yourselves still other reasons to complain.
Friends, if the fake world of Middle Earth goes down for a few hours, simply play something else, or find something to do in the real-world for a while until it is up again and your system updated. Or, use the opportunity to have a little real-life with your LOTRO.
Use the forum to discuss improving LOTRO, and not as a place to vent what is really your own impatience - so-mocking the hard, generous work of these from which you so-freely benefit. If nothing else, vent respectfully at them.
There, I said it. Now I brace for impact.
