No, haven't heard of him... great name, though!

Buckethead is an amazing guitarist. I was watching this one video of his the other day... kind of renaissance-style artsy stuff? Can't remember the name of the song. Disturbing, and fun!

He is indeed. He ranges from completely off the wall to impeccably classy. Colma is a great album if you aren't into rubber chickens. But you gotta love a guy that showcases his nunchaku skills on stage between songs, hehe.

The Police? Really? I saw XTC open for them in Austin in 1981, my jaw was still wired shut after the Gang of Four concert the previous Halloween...this was a seriously pro-XTC crowd and no one wanted them to leave the stage, but of course, Colin had to get off-stage so he could throw up...*sigh* The Police were good of course, they just weren't XTC.

So I suppose it's too much to ask that XTC will be opening for the Police right? :P

Haha... Strongarm was definately a good time. It would seem with the name change/new direction they cursed themselves. 3 consecutive new lead singers on their 3 albums. They should have tried to do strongarm again after Jason left. That last album just didn't have the vocal chops.

I wanted to go to that show in Austin! Mainly to see XTC, as well. Some friends of mine had a band in Austin at the time called The Take. They did a great cover of "Making Plans for Nigel" and we were all big XTC fans at the time.

    Cool!

I put in a lot of time at Raul's, playing Missile Command and pulling lead singers into the pit. It all got real friendly-like when that bouncer walked in though, I had never seen forearms with so many knife scars...

However, I arrived in Austin juuust a bit too late to save myself a lifetime of regret. A month before I arrived, Patti Smith went to Raul's after her show and led the whole place in singing "You Light Up My Life". To this day, I would give anything to have been there.

I first heard Susan Voelz when she was with Grains of Faith (at the Texas Union). Later she recorded a track on a song I had written and recorded. Her part was so good that as we were doing the mixdown it just kept climbing and climbing in the mix till it was louder than everything else, we finally had to get an impartial engineer to place it where it should be. :P

I remember riding in my Daddy's brand new car with his top of the line in car music system with an 8-track. I was in charge of changing the 8-track tapes when it was time. There would be like 10 or so shoved in the glove compartment... Sam Cooke.. Steve Wonder.. The Temptations.. Sonny & Cher. My Dad was old school back didn't like disco.

Really? They all liked the musical that much?

    :P

The Austin that I moved to in 1980 was so very much not the city I left in 2001. When I left, no matter where you drove, you were impeding the progress of some Young Master Of His Own Destiny on his way to burn through huge wads of venture capitol while making Thneedware.

But more than that...I went to the first Raul's reunion at Liberty Lunch. We were all 30-somethings, with our kids in tow. At one point somebody stepped up to the microphone and looking out shouted "f*** you!" ...there was a silence while our brains all dug through years of adult life to the archives of our youth. The correct response hit us all about the same time and looking up from cleaning spit off our various responsibilities we all shouted back "f*** you!" yeah...you can't ever go home.

but at least I moved someplace where it doesn't stay over 105 for weeks on end.

Caelven - Austin breaks my heart every time I go to visit. Effing yuppies.

On another note, I'll be using the term "Thneedware" to describe most what people buy nowadays. Thanks!

    OOh, that is cool!

For years I have been trying, without luck, to find a 78 player so I can record my copy of "the Dnieper Water Power Station" It says it's by Prokofiev, but I am pretty sure it's really by Alexander Mosolov

I had a Dual 1218 turntable that played 33/45 and 78. I managed to record my dad's "Grand Canyon Suite" on the multi-coloured 78s onto cassette for him. I still kick myself for trading in the 1218 for a 1225 in the late '70s.
    eBay's got one.

However, I arrived in Austin juuust a bit too late to save myself a lifetime of regret. A month before I arrived, Patti Smith went to Raul's after her show and led the whole place in singing "You Light Up My Life". To this day, I would give anything to have been there.

Someday I will be rich and buy that stoopid CW bar, tear off the paneling and make that Raul's mural a freakin National Shrine
I hear ya! One of the best shows I've ever seen was there. A local band called Sharon Tate's Baby opened up for the Dead Kennedys. My other hangout was Club Foot which is now the site of a bunch of ugly pinkish-purple condos.

Sometimes I feel like RP, sometimes I don't. But if you ever hear me OOC in /say, please feel free to kick me upside the head. Respect RP.
