    What are you listening to?

I always find these threads to be curiously insightful and very very wide ranged. I'll start.

I am listening to right now:

    Adagio for Strings and Organ
    Toronto Symphony Orchestra
    Sylexis Relsicil of Landroval

Rose Polenzani - Queen Anne's Lace.

Gorgeous voice, great songwriting. It's a little more "Lilith Fair" girl folk than I would normally listen to -- not that it's a bad thing. But I'm totally captivated by her music.

Re: What are you listening to?

Found a wonderful CD at Barnes and Noble online. It consist entirely of different arrangements of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, including all of Barber's authorized versions. It has Barber's original arrangement performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a smaller arrangement he did for a chamber orchestra performed by the Smithsonian Chamber Players, his arrangement for a string quartet and another for organ, and his amazing choral adaptation of the Agnus Dei to the work performed by the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge.

It also has some arrangements not made by Barber himself. There's one with James Galway on flute and with synthesiser accompaniment, one that is all brass by the Canadian Brass, a wonderful clarinet version with Richard Stoltzman.

The piece just fits so well to the pain and sorrow of the times in the game. It's the most perfect hauntingly beautiful yet sad piece of music ever written.

Another constant in my CD player lately has been Borodin's unfinished opera Prince Igor, completed by Rimsky-Korsakov and Glasunov. The version I have is the BBC Symphony Chorus and the New Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Geoffrey Simon.

Sometimes I feel like RP, sometimes I don't. But if you ever hear me OOC in /say, please feel free to kick me upside the head. Respect RP.

I generally listen to a friendly mix of Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian. Been lot of Blind Guardian lately. Sometimes some Iron Maiden and Dragonforce and Edguy and Iced Earth creep in there.

And, when I'm feeling really crazy, out comes ol' Johnny Cash and Meatloaf. Paaaaradiise by the dashboard light baby!

Christian bands sing Christian songs to Christian people

I listen to good bands who make good music that everyone can relate to.

Not trying to start a debate on this...but I'm a huge music guy...and I've had the possibly ensuing debate a hundred times over. I wouldn't have even posted this, except i get itched when I see things like...

    Totally!

Prog metal is definitely fun stuff. Last year after we played the Bon Jovi show we had the opportunity to open for Spock's Beard at their Denver appearance; those guys were freaking amazing... and the band I was in before my current one got to tour with Fates Warning for a while in '01 or '02 (unfortunately, this was about a year or so before I joined them).

Not only are they incredibly talented, they tend to be quite a bit more intelligent and infinitely more conversational than some of the 80's "hair metal" bands we've played with! Enuff Z' Nuff? C'mon. heheh.

I love Fate's Warning! Too bad you missed out on that.

A little off the topic of my dear beloved Progressive Metal, but have you ever heard That One Guy? He is freaking amazing, and I think you'd appreciate his stuff. He toured with Buckethead recently. Just this lone dude, playing a huge instrument he invented himself. It's sick.
