This is an "Ah darn" moment. The water we were using to put out the fire just steam burned the heck out of my leg (I am on the left, writhing in pain, just before making my way through the hole), and we are preparing to make entry into the fire room (my first rescue). How any camera could have survived this heat is beyond me!

I like to give props to Firefighters and Cops.

I find it funny, in a self-reflecting kind of way, that while I don't find it scary to fly (military, not commercial; and I don't forget the danger, I just don't dwell on it), for a living, the idea of running into a burning building would really put me off.

Firefighters yes, cops.... iffy

I'd also have to say that EMT's/Paramedics (which Firefighters are often as well) are also heros, along with service men and women of the armed forces (which I used to be, I was a FMF (Fleet Marine Force) Hospital Corpsman (a field medic)).

Firefighters are 2fold heros though, most of them are at least EMT-B qualified and not only among the first on the scene for a fire, but also for many medical emergencies as well. Gotta say I have a ton of respect for that line of work.

No, I was based in Camp Lejeune, NC, did a deployment into the sand box, came back, next duty station was Portsmouth, did ANOTHER deployment, this time to Kuwait.
