LOTRO Client Download Information
The LOTRO client is now available for download to players who don't have access to the installation DVDs or a DVD drive. This client installation does not contain the high resolution texture files or all of the cinematics; those features are only included on the retail DVDs.
For the standard-resolution version, click HERE. For the high-resolution version, click HERE.
For more information about downloading the client, please see the related Knowledge Base article here.

I downloaded it, and it said (after 12 hours of downloading), that a file was corrupt. I tried to install it, but instead of the launcher popping up it said I had to download it all over again :X
I guess this should be updated...I was going to download it at work to play there, but get a error for each file, telling me it is not matching what's on the server.
I don't have access to my DVDs either, so for fresh install I used the 7 Day Trial downloader, and even got the HiRes downloaded and installed that way. Will the HiRes be available as a regular download as well soon?
hmmm, I still have it installed on my XP harddrive but cannot get to my dvd to install it in vista. I used the "buddy installer" and it worked fine in vista ultimate 64. Everything downloaded fine overnight. Started installing this morning, and I just copied over all my .dat files with all my LOTRO windows XP .dat's(including "client_highres.dat'). There are 10 of these files and their about 7.5Gb in "c:\program files\turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online\ "*.dat". I was just on last night and the new install is doing a little patching right now bout 35 min. @ 75% >.< We'll see if I get the hi-res textures soon which is the point of installing in vista. Got me a 8800GT in the mail!
-d.
*Update* just got done, Very High Textures/ Ultra Quality Settings works fine!

I am having a problem with this. I downloaded the Book 14 client no less than 3 times now and each set of files encountered file corruption when attempting to install this. (refering to the book 14 high res client) I don't know what the problem could be...
Can you try deleting the installation files off your system, clear your Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer, and then try redownloading the client one more time, please?

I cleared like you suggested before each attempt and tried it on 2 separate computers. I am now trying to grab the book 13 high res client after 4 failures with the book 14 client. I left it to download and went to lunch. When I got back the downloader had crashed at about 2GBs in. This is really getting frustrating.
It seems like the data is becoming corrupted between our servers and your system somehow. What type of internet connection do you have? Is it cable, DSL or satellite?
You may also want to run a CHKDSK scan on your hard drive to make sure there are no errors there.

I run chkdsk regularly. (i am a 10+ year PC tech) My hard drive is fine. No errors. I did also say I tried downloading it on two computers. So unless they both have issues, it really isn't likely a hard drive issue. I also tried a different router. Both routers produce problems. I am running Verizon DSL. I tried calling them and asking them about it last night. They gave me the usual Verizon BS and assured me it wasn't their fault. (but that doesn't mean much to me...the guy was obviously in India reading from a script, asking me the lamest questions that had nothing to do with my problem...)
Anyway, I do suspect some kind of 'net problem. Either with Verizon, your downloader or something else out of my hands. I don't know what else to do from here...
I will say I've been getting lots of packet loss lately especially under heavy line use. (even without a router between the net and my computers. i ran the DSL modem straight into my computer as a test. so it's not my routers) In game and in online diagnostics (DSLReports tweak test for example). A tracert shows that there's a few servers that time out on me quite a bit the past few days. It might be the same one, I haven't noted what's what, just a lot of time outs and lost packets some place. Maybe some stupid internet server between me and whatever I access is having a meltdown.
I contacted Verizon and finally got a real tech on the phone. After all kinds of tests he seemed very sure my line and their service to my place is fine. He could find nothing wrong...
I've tried like 7-8 times to grab the files and every time I get a message during download about how the checksums aren't matching or when attempting to install the client about how the files are corrupted and unreadable. I've done everything I can think of to eliminate my equipment as a possible source of the problem. I saw other posters reports of similar problems. I believe it to be on your end.
My comp got a virus so i had to wipe my hard drive. Can i download lotro free again without buying it again. I still have proof that i bought it, so........?

Yes.
What you paid for is an account & license code more than the software.

I'm not a hobbit burglar, but I play one on Landroval!
I purchased the game today, setup my account and found out that my disc's are screwed - i can see a wavy thing near the track start place. Figured I was doomed to wait for new disc's, but thanks to this thread, I have LoTRO, just the same.

The link in the first post is about 18 months old - I'll see about getting that updated. I posted the current, and correct, link in this thread a few weeks ago. You shouldn't have any issue downloading the client here:
