I gotta say, Cath's wins. Heck, even one of those would be a win for biggest weirdo, but to have met 3 of them. I might have to avoid the game for a while after all that. Especially the first one. *shudders* I wonder if it was my stalker, which server are you on? heh.

Um, ok. I don't know you that much. We just traded one time and that was it. So I did remove him from my friends list since I didn't want to bother hanging around someone who's so moody.
Poor him. The MMO world must really get to him. I guess he's not a fan of /ignore add NameHere when these people called him something that he didn't agree with.
Did you even consider that you interrupted him in a conversation and his tell went to you?
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Regarding Cat's plea for people to not use voice-activated:
I remember people talking in Vent in EQ2 about how someone had left their mic on. While some people were using Vent while grouped, this other person was in still in the chat room. The players started hearing conversation about ahem....kids close your eyes...put it in your mouth...aaaah.
The female player of the group got embarassed at what they were hearing and had to turn the sound off.
I already posted in a reply on another subject of the weirdo on my server:
Someone telling me I'm a rude person for explaining to someone in chat how to kill / what to expect of the war master orc in Weather Hills. I told them in open chat at my level / class I could do it and so maybe they could too (since it isn't really that hard of a quest, especially if you can mez).
The person sending tell never replied back to me when I replied to them that I was hoping for the benefit of the doubt that it was a mis tell since I was just standing there talking to someone about a quest.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
one time i was running around breeland, collecting ore, grinding mobs, when in the distance i saw a node. went to get it but someone beat me to it. fair enough, they got there first, but then they started mining it they got interrupted by a bear, with another bear soon to add.
As they were a low lvl and getting heavily beaten, my hunter intervened. i was able to just kill them in time, and went my own way.
A minute later, the person starts spamming in /say "kill stealer" "kill stealer" "kill stealer", to which i replied "i just saved you from those bears plus you got your node, you should be happy" only to get a reply "is that how you justify your behaviour. im sick and tired of kill stealer's and this game is full of them" to which i said "LMAO i thought you would be grateful to get them of your back...some ppl..." which must have infuriated them because they proceeded to giv me a full blow lecture on proper mmo etiquette to which i replied "go back to WoW" and added them to the ignore bin of doom!
lol i should have just let them die and stolen their node :P

on another occasion, a tinkerer was trying to sell tier 1 jeweller for 40s each. initially they were posting in the trade channel once every so often but then it escalated to once a min.
after THREE days of this, and no one telling them to stop spamming i said in /trade, "mate, your asking too much and stop spamming the trade channel" to which he replied in /trade, "go find a knife and run into it" ... mmm ... ok havent heard that one before!

another time i was questing with a fellowship in GB. after killing a large mob and rolling for the loot, one of the group asked another whether they could have one of the items they had won. when the other person said they needed it themselves, they proceeded to have a huge ***** about people being selfish, and not sharing etc etc.
not long after they ran ahead of the group and everyone was like "&&&? what is he doing". next thing you know they came back pulling a pack of elites, promptly left the fellowship and teleported away (they were a hunter), leaving the rest of us to deal with the mob! grr

this is why i get all confused. I try to check a person if they're fighting and see if they need help before i intervene BECAUSE of stuff like that ungrateful jerk. But the other day, I had the opposite happen. I was hanging out in shire working on some grey quests I had kind of ignored, when I saw this pretty tough hunter killing some of the brigands near the waterfall. I checked him/her and they had practically full morale and were killing mobs left and right, so after waiting a sec to make sure they didn't need aid (clearly they didn't), i headed off in the other direction. Didn't want to risk being a kill stealer. A few seconds later, the toon is chasing me down, and i start getting blasted with tells about "way to stand there" and name calling about why didn't I help out. After hashing it back and forth a few minutes with multiple apologies (cuz I try to be nice like that) and offers to help from that point, which were rudely rebuffed, I told the hunter "welcome to my ignore list"
Seriously, I don't know what to do anymore. you get reamed if you help and if you don't. I try to help as fairly as I can. If I check you and see you need help, I help. If you seem to be doing okay, I move on. What else is a girl to do? I'm close to the point of if they want help, they better send an invite to fellow, otherwise I'm too scared of verbal abuse to risk it.
K, so that wasn't weird, but to me, the whole assist/not assist road rage attitude is getting beyond weird. I mean, come on, it's a game. Let's all get along.
Although on the subject of weird, there were those people on ooc the other night that were having a contest to see how far they could push the offensive and vulgar barriers before getting banned. And slamming people who used profanity filters. I don't use them, so I got to be witness to lots of REALLY mature behavior.

Heh, the only filter I use is the one that switches OOC off
And I agree, it gets beyond a joke at times with the help/don't help stuff. Personally I'd rather err on the side of caution and help if it looks bad, and if they give me grief for it, well hey that's someone that I'll let die next time
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
My little kinship has been amused by what is filtered and what is not. We regularly entertain ourselves checking to see what will go through and what won't. The filter is extraordinarily wacky. Is there a list anywhere on what the filtered words are?
When my husband and I played DDO we fellowed with a guy RPing a halfling on VC. Every time he spoke we collapsed in giggle fits.
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Perhaps this wasn't as much weird as just funny: I was finishing up group quests in the Lone Lands, and still needed Drawing the Pack. /L guy adverts for the quest, I reply and get an invite.
I say hi, they say hi, and in the next breath they say "Please come to our location ASAP." I'm thinking, nah, I was planning to go real slow....
So, I thank them for the group, say I'll do it later, and leave the fellowship. I was headed that way anyway, and proceeded to kill my way to that area.
A few minutes later....the advice channel lights up with complaints about Drawing the Pack being bugged from this same group.
I finally work my way there and kill the stuck warg from the quest, which releases Shadepaw on the unsuspecting group.
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Actually my new one isn't about a weirdo..
I was hunting coldworms(baby drakes more or less). I saw a hunter who was fighting 2 off and had 1 in a trap. I went and attacked the trapped one because it wasn't tapped yet.
I get a /t "thanks" , now my knee jerk reaction was to send one back with "oh I'm sorry" thinking the guy was being sarcastic. He said "no really thanks I bit off more than I can chew". Wow a nice player.. thats weird

nah, we're still here, we're just getting paranoid from the not nice ones.
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Some hilarious tales of, well, hilarity here.
I've had the "char is female, acts as female, and then you turn on voice and it's a deep male sound" thing happen before. Nice guy though, I tought him dueling banjos, and he attempted to teach me simple chords. Yes, I am a minstrel who is utterly terrible at the /music system. Yes, I do occasionally stand outside the prancing pony and play classical music on my flute, becuase I like to be able to blame the horrid sound on the flute, and not my skill. It really is that bad.
Anyhow, the weirdest person I have met was an adorable little dwarf. I was waiting for a regular fellowship-mate to leave Bree, and I was loitering near the bridge straight out from West Gate. This dwarf runs up, tells me hello (with plenty of exclamation marks) and asks how I am. I assume he's roleplaying an ADD dwarf, and greet him with /wave and tells him I'm fine and whatnot. We make nice for a few moments, and he asks where the barrow downs are. I explained where it was(He actually just said downs, I think, and i mentioned north downs and the barrow downs near old forest), and noted that I thought he might want to be careful because of his level. He then asks me to show him, and promptly turns southward and runs away. I finished typing "Sure, follow me", and actually followed him. He ran straight up to the mountains, following along the ridge as high up as he could get (like he was trying to find a spot to climb over), get stuck on some ruins, then fall into the river.. He swam around for a bit, and this whole time I'm /saying things like "Uh? It's much easier to just go this way.." "There is a bear there.." "Going swimming, eh? Can't follow the river into the downs.." etc. Eventually I jumped in, because he was frantically trying to swim into the rocks at the end of the stream (Don't know how to explain that better) and then I see.. ANOTEHR DWARF. With a similar name, already in the water. I kinda lead them both to where they can get out of the water, /wave them goodbye, and run away very fast. I have no idea what was going on, but it reminded me of a toddler convinced that if he just keeps trying he can get the square peg through the circle, despite you showing him where it goes.
Much of my experiences with "weidos" have been in /ooc. I tend to incite that kind of thing, and as someone said once, I'm "a horrible troll.. but a helpful wish-granting troll!"

Our kinship message of the day is "We stand united as one" or something, but "united" is always filtered.
That word has never been sexual to me until now.
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Can't say this was the weirdest person I've encountered but it is one I remember.
I was in the North Downs, low 20's guardian and I need to go get the black fire. I get an invite to a fellow from a hunter that is a level or two above me. Since all the orcs are higher than me I go ahead and accept. She runs off ahead of me and starts fighting orcs. I say hello in fellow chat but she says nothing. I ask what quest she is working on. No response. She just runs around killing orcs.
Eventually I get the crate I need. She still hasn't said anything so I say "if you're not going to talk there is no point in being in a fellowship". I disband and go turn in my quest. About 20min later I'm in the orc fort near there and she invites me again with no word. I decline this time.

Hmm, my guess is they're filtering it as part of "United States", but seeing as how you 'stand untied', maybe they thought it was a bondage thing?
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
I'm one of the weird ones I think. Some examples ...
~*~
I was at the Prancing Pony one night and there were some musicians hanging about battering on their instruments. It actually sounded nice, so I started dancing in the middle of the street. Then from the corner of my eye, I spy a dwarf sprouting out from the milestone.
So I ran to him. And just stood next to him and admired him. He was a handsome dwarf with a glowing blonde beard and a lavish hat. He had a cute name too and I was so tickled that I just stood next to him and kept emoting "Bristlecone is happy."
Every now and then I would run to the musicians, dance, turn on walk and see if I can beat the guards in a brisk walk race, but I'd always run back to my dwarfykins. Then I guess he finally realized I was semi-stalking him (which I wasn't really I was just standing by him with an unnatural smile on my face).
Anyways, he ran away. And as I saw his dinky little cape flap in the wind as he sped off, I emoted, "Bristlecone is sad."
~*~
I had an embarassing moment once, as a burgular I had to do a quest to kill some bears. Still a low-level, I was struggling. I'd be limping my way after every kill. After killing 5 or so, I seemed to be in a permanent limping, bleeding, wounded state, so I staggered my way to the nearest npc (Constable Bolger) and emoted a faint, thus collapsing next to the campire.
As soon as I plummeted to the ground, red mist aura and all, I was promptly healed. I got up in a rush and saw a whole fellowship of folks, who had been standing by the campfire all that time, smiling at me sympathetically. I did my best to make a graceful bow, and flew out of there as fast as my heels could take me.
~*~
After killing a few slugs, I found the cleanest, bubbling brook, stripped my gear and bathed myself. I was right next to a bridge so naturally as I'm floating in the water in my skivvies, a whole troop of hobbits run across the bridge. So yeah, if anyone spies a character swimming around in their underwear, that might be one of mine. I have this compulsiveness to bathe after hunting down stinky things.

That's when I start getting the nasty tells about me stealing his node. It's not like I jacked whil;e he was fighting a mob, he stopped to do something else.
Maybe you shoujld have shot him a tell explaining that if he had not jacked your strawberries you would have left the node alone?

That happens to me all the time...usually its a burglar who's hidden when he approaches the node, then calls me a thief when I mine the node, not even noticing his prescence.

Not as bad as what happened to me yesterday. I'm a girl irl, but a tomboy. Yesterday went to nail salon with a friend, and wore my superman tshirt and baggy jeans, when a little girl started staring at me. i smiled at her, and she looked over at her mom and asked "is that a girl?" seriously, my b**bies aren't THAT small! So at least they're only mixing you up as a toon, mine happens irl. /sighs My toon is hotter than me. /cries
Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?
Weirdest thing i've seen in this game is when a guy who was too low for our group needed the quest we were doing so I decided to be nice and invite him anyway. He ended up dying and said something like "f--- this group you can suck my f---in' balls." It made me laugh that someone could be so ungrateful and foul-mouthed.
The weirdest thing i've seen in any game though was after I quit WoW, I went to my old guild's website to see if they were still around and I saw some guy who was calling himself a "WoW Pimp" because he had screens of the female characters in the guild with their clothes off...one of those characters was played by my real life friend who is a guy. Kind of disturbing because I can remember when I played he would tell me not to let anyone know he was a guy in real life.
