Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

Mine has to do with this one silly dwarf...

I was in a group with some people and we went off to kill some elite spiders in Lone-Lands. Well, there was this one spider that was trained onto us by some idiot. (He tagged a spider, we somehow got it, then he went to kill another mob). When we had been victorious, he came back to us (after killing his own mob) and proceeded to viciously SCREAM at us for stealing his kill.

He typed in all caps. And he went on and on and on and on and on and on about why he was so upset with us, and that he was "TIRED OF PEOPL STELING MY FKIGN KILLS!". Then he logged off.

...So who are some of the strange folk you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I grouped up with a female character but it was a dude playing. He was role playing as a female in voice chat for the whole 30 minutes I was with him. Weird and creepy

Some Loremaster who was foreign and did not understand English very well. He pulled a ridiculous amount of mobs just by standing in one spot and he was always running back and forth in an area waiting for us to kill the mob that was hunting him down. Of course, his running around would only attract more...

Hah. In those situations, liberal use of the /mock and /laugh emotes tend to do the trick

My wierdest one was some guy that got mad at me for supposedly stealing his copper node. He was fighting a mob, but he was nowhere near the node. In fact, he was almost out of sight. He came up to me screaming about punk kids always stealing his nodes, and proceeded to follow me around spamming /angry for at least 10 minutes. It was hilarious.
Now, I avoid taking other peoples nodes, but you need to at least be close to a node to be able to claim it as yours

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

What is funny is yesterday I was out grinding mobs for a deed and some dude ran up hit this copper node next to me then proceeded to send me tells on how I'd been "ninja'd". I do not even have prospecting on my character I got a good chuckle out of it.

Another time I asked in OOC where the chest was for the dourhand plans mission. Some guy told me in a tell "Its in town.". I ignored it as I know its in a camp somewhere. Couple mins later he sent me tells yelling at me for not giving him thanks for his information. I sent a tell back saying "in town" was not helpful. He said I was too stupid to know what to do and could not read the quest log etc. He was talking about a different quest where you find the mining records in the chest. I told him this and never heard another word out of him heh.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

My weirdest experience was I grouped with a few people who kept talking in abreviations and codes whenever I asked what we were doing. the conversation was like: me: "What quest are we doing next?" them: "3/4 - drop it up here" "find it?" "Move RM up ahead!" me: "????" them: "Follow - 4/4, is this it?"

needless to say, I was just following at this point and decided to part ways...

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I find little bits of weirdness each time I play.

Mostly it's in the form of people "helping" me kill things. I just don't get it. I'm at 3/4 morale, the mob is at (at best) 25%, and the help. Hello? Do you not see me? Do you not realize that you're stealing a little bit of my XP? Go away.

The other form it usually takes is in names: Gothiclolita ? Rectom ?

At least I know who to avoid grouping up with.

This guy who followed me around and saying, "inv me". He wouldn't fight or respond to anything I said, just kept spamming. So I ignored him. After ten minutes or so, he went away.

    People are mighty strange.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I was with five of my kinmates in Minas Eriol, killing spiders (for Weavers Under The Ruins). So we had a full group. A champion (who none of us knew) came down with us and started following us around, and beating up all the elite spiders we hit. We were just having a bit of a giggle about it, but it got annoying when we engaged one but he got the 'tap' in. He didn't say a word the whole time, including when we asked him to stop. Technically we could have reported him for harassment, but we all felt sorry for him because his social skills were obviously limited.

Then there was the time I was doing the quest to get the Dourhand gold in the goblin fort in the Vale of Thrain - I was playing a level 10 minstrel so I couldn't quite solo the encounter (one signature and two solos). I asked a couple of times in /LFF to see if anyone was interested in helping, there wasn't any response. Mind you, there was another player (guardian) in the fort with me - I sent him a say and a tell asking what quests he was on (knowing he would be on the same ones), and if he wanted to share but he ignored me. I got up to the encounter I needed, and I started to 'work' on it by killing first one solo mob, then running out of range, then back in, then killing the second mob and then the signature. Since I couldn't get a group. At least, that was the plan. It was going swimmingly well, except that when I hit the second solo mob, the dwarf guardian bounced out of nowhere and tagged the signature. I was pretty much fuming, and said 'What the hell?' or words to that effect than I made a comment in /OOC - not mentioning his name but saying that I thought players who did that were disgraceful. Then the guardian suddenly found his voice and I had the charming response 'Welcome to MMORPGS now shut up'.

Anyway, that was the point where I realised that players broadly fall into a few categories: Top blokes, average joes, strange people, and pure scum.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I was on a female toon. A guy offered to help my group with a quest, so he does, and afterward, he's talking about a quest he has to do, so I offer to tag along. At this point, everything seems fine, we head there, kill the mob we need to, and I think at this point we'll be parting ways. But he had other ideas in mind...

But in as friendly a way as possible, I let him know that I'll be going to join a group for another quest. He starts working on another quest, and later sends me some tells, and we have a conversation about the game. Everything seems fine, and then I think he starts to have some problems with his group... he complains, I say "lol"... now he gets EMO. "I'm too ***** for lols right now." After that he berated me for not helping him more. Two hours later, I get a tell about how he's not himself sometimes... SCARY. Keep the emo to yourself.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I was hunting solo in the Old Forest with my lvl 20 minstrel, trying to finish up deeds and a couple of quests while waiting for my hunting partner to log in. I needed one more wolf, saw one, and killed it. This player (don't remember his name, didn't even notice his level) started cursing at me because he apparently had been looking for wolves for 30 minutes, this was the first one he had seen, and I was too high-level to kill it (true, the quest was gray for me and I didn't earn any XP for completion, but at least it was off my list). He screamed at me for probably five minutes.

Funny thing was, as I continued through the forest, I saw wolves EVERYWHERE

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

not sure it counts as "weird" but while doing stuff in a kinship fellowship the other night, some guy asks where the cave for "broken alliance" is in /advice. I respond that its in cirith nur and when he asks for more clarification in /advice, I send him a tell with more instructions.

about 10 minutes later he responds telling me that its not there. I reply that it *is* there, and he replies that he is sending a guy to "check it out".

I told him that unless I've been horribly brain damaged the times that I've run broken alliance, its always been in the cave in Cirith Nur...and that he shouldn't waste my time anymore.

reminds me, need to send him a tell and ask him now that he's 30 if he ever found it.

Hobbit running around the Brigand Hdqtrs in South Bree. Chat bubble was going on and on about "manage your quest NPC's" and "don't steal my mobs"

My hubby was cracking up. It did look like something a crazy hobbit would shout. All we did was come up to do our quest. How were we to know that this lone hobbit was waiting for a fellowship quest to respawn? or..at least I'm guessing that is what he was doing... we just wanted to get the quest done before all the guys respawned around us.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

I was farming Barrow Iron and Silver nodes (needed all the silver I could get my hands on to Master the Journeyman Jeweller Tier). I see a node spawn on the minimap and head for it and I notice another player running towards it as I get close and I'm going to let him have it, but he stops and kneels down to get a ground spawn of strawberries nearby, so I finish the run and farm the node.

That's when I start getting the nasty tells about me stealing his node. It's not like I jacked it while he was fighting a mob, he stopped to do something else.

Weirdest person... easy. Dude who was "stalking" me. Most guys are nice and normal, just cuz I'm a chick, it doesn't make a difference really. But this one guy who I met in a fellowship got chatty. No big deal. We would text back and forth over the next couple nights, like I do with lots of people, but then it got oddly serious. He was calling me hon, and talking about flying down to visit me, etc. I described it to one of my irl friends as going to a party and having that one person who follows you around all night while you try to be polite and mingle and have a good time. The night it got really bad, it was to the point where I was trying to solo and do some hunting in the Bree-fields and kept dying b/c he was repeatedly sending tells. over and over and over. very distracting and CREEPY. He has since been added to my lovely /ignore list. Anybody else getting stalkers?? *shudder*

I haven't encountered any people in game. Normally, I'd find that weird, but I know they're not really people. They're just entities in-game playing people IRL.

Other than that, I haven't had that weird of an experience in LOTRO yet, but I'm hoping..

That's bizarre... I play female characters, but even in text I wouldn't try to "act" female. I just play.

As for weirdest people. Running around Eastern Nam Arnad (sp) in North Downs. Killing a Warg, and get a blind invite from a guardian. Decide sure why not. Conversation went like this:

    Me: What quest you doing?
    Him: Wargs, kill
Me: Ok, how many, and what type? (There's a couple different warg quests for that area)
    Him: Wargs

Ok.. start hunting wargs, find one on track (I'm a hunter). Start heading in that direction. He decides to start killing an Earth-Kin hunter after I tag the Warg. Finish the Warg, help him finish the giant.

    Him: TY

And everytime we'd finish killing some NPC he'd just say "TY". Yeah, you're welcome for me doing my job. How many more wargs do you need, now?

After we finished the wargs, he wanted me to show him around and find the Ranger Stashes. By that point I had decided to just go solo, explained they were random, and wished him luck. Did group with him for Black-Fire the next night, and he spoke perfect english so guess he was just having an off night.

I just ignore the people screaming about Node-Ninja's, and kill-steals. The ones who rant and rave too much go on the ignore list.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

By far the weirdest person I've me online was this odd fellow mining on my node.

So I ran up and, naturally, said "U STOL MY KNODE B----", and started mining it myself. This weird guy offers me the ore to smooth things over, but of course I was having none of that.

So, rationally, I told him "My boyz an i r goin to report you. U Ninja ******, My boyz r goin to ruin ur rep." Then the strangest thing! He starts telling me how he has been in game since beta 1 and that his reputation was stellar amongst his fellows. Seriously, have you ever heard of such a thing?

The only thing I could do was say ""U ben @ dis node since beta 1? U a guy aint u. U live in yo moms basement."

I tell you, some people are just STRANGE.

That's actually a reportable offense Highlandgirl. No one should have to deal with things like that in an online game.

Granted the /ignore takes care of him, until he rolls an alt. I'd report them next time. And take a screen shot of the chat to submit.

I love to imagine what these online Cassanovas are really like in real life. Staring at the the BANNED screen, mouth wide open, 350 pounds of hairy back and stained underwear screaming "WHYYY!! BUT I LOVE YOU!!"

    Eesh.

I tell you, some people are just STRANGE.
Thank you. You just got me in trouble in class because I started laughing out loud.

Well, it would seem that the Prancing Pony has now become the "Goldshire Inn". Yep, you WoWers will know exactly what I mean.

Last night, after finishing one of the chapter quests and speaking with Strider, I'm walking through the hallway and see a couple people in one of the back rooms. Cybering. With emotes. In detail. This is bad in and of itself, but to make matters worse some random guy stops in and starts /cheer for them. Needless to say, I forced back those unwanted memories of Goldshire and left the PP as fast as I could.

Re: Who are the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

The other night in regional chat someone was looking for a kinship, saying that they needed to take a break from the game for a bit but they'd like a kinship for when they got back, and did anyone mind a player who wasn't active for awhile?

I shot off a tell and said that there are a lot of kinships around but we don't mind non-active players staying if they plan on coming back. So the guy says okay well I'm going to prison for ten years but I want a group when I get back- is this going to be a problem?

I was kind of stunned- is he serious? This has to be a joke. I played it safe and said sorry, I won't be playing this game in ten years. He said well okay, that's too bad, I am sure it will be around and I want to rejoin when I get out of prison.

    Yeahhhhh.
