Slow First Load + Disconnected, Fast Second Load

I'm not really sure how to describe what I'm seeing, but I'll give it a shot.

When I log in to LotRO, the game proceeds to take quite a while to first bring me to the Character Select screen, and typically does not successfully get me into game after I select my character. My client will typically be 'Not Responding' during this time, but will eventually start to load me into the game. I will almost always get the "You have been disconnected" black screen message after waiting 5+ minutes.

When I log in the second time, the game loads significantly faster, and generally responds the whole time. It's as if it 'remembers' what it loaded before, and can proceed more quickly.

I've watched my RAM/CPU load during launch, and I'm around 60-70% RAM use during launch, and less than 25% CPU use. I do experience lag with some other programs (Windows in general, Chrome, etc.) but experience virtually no issues with games like Skyrim.

Once I'm in game, I experience similar lag when I try to open my inventory, map, or legendary items screen for the first time. After that first load though, it's just fine (unless it's been a long time since the next time I open it up).

Anyone have any idea? I'm getting a new computer soon, but it'd be nice for this one to still work with LotRO more consistently. I only noticed this being an issue for me Post-Enedwaith

First run puts many of the needed files in your disk cache. Second run many of the files are quickly retrieved from the disk cache and you don't time out.

This may be a dumb question, but what do I need to to improve that? Is there anything I can do without making a hardware change?

I don't think there is anything any of us can do.

I have the game installed on an SSD and have plenty of RAM and ever since around the time Rohan launched (possibly before then) the game start loading extremely slow upon the first login to the game world.

They obviously made some change to the client that is causing this. Sometimes when I get in game my connection status icon indicates a state as if I am lagging out from the server, but then corrects itself within a few seconds.

Can't say I've ever been dropped trying to login though.

I have same problem as OP, but just on one character (my first one). I dont know why other toons can log in on first try (after extremely long time but they log in) and my main toon does not. I dont have SSD drive and at the moment I think SSD is the only solution. Which is pretty lame that you have to buy not exactly cheap HW because of this when all other games are running just fine.
