Noones shooting anyone. People are just giving there opinions.

There isn't enough information here.
Is it a per-character purchase?
What does it do, exactly? I don't think many posters here have a clear concept of that yet.
Never. I would strongly prefer this not be introduced as an actual mount; it crosses a line of absurdity and cartoonishness worthy of being a panda in WoW. I can see it as a cosmetic, just like a beer stein or pretzel; but no speed or morale stats please. This really veers off the course of Middle Earth-appropriate.

Housing updates, and even that's a maybe, but is the only thing I can remotely imagine ever purchasing for that price other than a full new expansion. MAJOR housing updates, for example, the ability to have unlimited, moveable placement of housing items inside and out, removal of bound items restrictions account-wide, and interactivity (personal superior forge or oven, pathing pets, etc.).

It's a Store Exclusive mount. That's about the size of it. Looks just like the hobby horse from the quest of the same name out of Harwick. Has 250 Morale, +62% Run Speed. 5000 TP. It is a per character purchase.
I think that given that Turbine doesn't provide this information there is something very fishy with this thread.
Such as later claiming that the item has been added "upon player demand" and "designed by the players" and "the players were OK with the price when we discussed it with them".
If that's not the case, why doesn't the original post have the information that is strictly needed to say whether this is worth $50 or not?
[QUOTE=xRaina;6550324]Some of you may have noticed a new item in your store on Bullroarer: the Hobby Horse.
The store wizards would like your feedback (well-thought out, non-crazypants) on this item.
1. The price is not a joke. That is the proposed price for this item.
5k no never ever not even with vip amassed points. The ONLY time I will ever get this is on bullroarer where I'm not using my real points. Just as I got every class steed I could to test out warsteed appearances.
2. Would you be willing to purchase this item?
When we first saw the Hobby Horse daily many of us thought it would be fun to have these for ourselves or for other races around Middle Earth.
When we found that they existed last build using the compendium plugin we all started theorizeing how we could get this as we wanted it.
Now we see the price for a single one and none of us will ever buy it.
3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
For 5k.... only a major expansion with instance packs and raids.
4. Any rants about how evil Turbine is for making store items, even those that are entirely optional and up simply for the fun of those who are willing to pay for them, will be disregarded. This item is an experiment item. We simply want your feedback on the type of item presented and what might be added to it or done to it to make it a better item. We are not forcing you to buy it. No one is forcing you to buy it. It's something to be there and be fun for those who may want it.

This is no rant but prices need to be reasonable and lately with the Store they haven't been. Warsteed Dyes and Colorings are a prime example of this. Another is the fact that the original bullroarer warsteed cosmetics from the store have yet to ever be seen on live and the prices we saw in beta were all 1 tp. To say we were shocked at the live prices is an understatement as proven by the threads. Store prices are out of control.
1. The price is not a joke. That is the proposed price for this item.
2. Would you be willing to purchase this item?
Yes, but not for 1000TP+
3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
A real wooden human sized hobby horse
or together with a 6 month gametime card
or If it is part of an Preorder Bonus Expansion Package with open skirmishes, kinship revamp and housing revamp ... Aaannd servers located in the EU. (I would propably pay more for this...)
or maybe just a t-shirt:
"I've spent 5.000 points at the lotro store and all I got was a wooden hobby horse and this stupid shirt."

So someone at WB asked Turbine to try to see if they can sell a ridiculously high priced fluff item?
Does this action have any interest or benefit to the players at all? Or is this action completely free of any effort to make the game a better experience for players.

It's actually a 40% run speed. Check it out after purchase.
I'm under the impression the 40% is intended and the 62% is a typo (from reworking a copied description.)
Well um where to start...
Would I buy it?
Ya sure.
At the current price?
Umm... Is there a sign on my forhead that says "Moron"? No, Okay well I would never ever in a million years spend 5000TP on a toy horse.
What do you need to do to improve it?
Well maybe if it comes with your choice of the following:
1. RoR expansion. (and no I am not joking either)
2. All of your over priced WS dyes. (account wide)
3. 3 month VIP time card +750 extra TP.
4. The ability to one shot anything I want.
Also Turbine if WB asked you to try to sell this item I am 99% sure they were just trolling.

Yes. Yes it is. You may not be pitching it as a joke, but an asking price of 5000 turbine points, equivalent of $50, yes, it's a joke.
2. Would you be willing to purchase this item?
Setting aside price, if it were a cosmetic item that, by equip, modified your characters walking/running animation, but was NOT an actual mount that moved at actual mount speeds... then I might have a character that would be interested, and I certainly wouldn't object to others wanting it, or its existence in general. I had no gripe with the quest, for example.
As it is, given that it is actually a 'mount', and moves at full mount speeds, and is thus a huge immersion break for anyone to whom in-world immersion is important, by its existence and by virtue of the likelihood of seeing other players using it so, irrespective of the fact that the immersion-sensitive player wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole... no... I'd not be even slightly interested and would be against it even existing in that form, for the sake of the game atmosphere as a whole.
At the proposed price, that provisional 'maybe' and current 'firm no' becomes an utterly and resounding 'No!', followed by uproarious and derisive laughter at the sheer believability that the proposal is in any way serious.
3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
1) If it were actually part of a large, full expansion... and then the 5000 points would be for the expansion and not the horse.
2) Actually, I can't think of a 2. There is nothing that could possibly be done to this cosmetic/mount item to make it even remotely worth considering paying 5000 turbine points for.
4. Any rants about how evil Turbine is for making store items, even those that are entirely optional and up simply for the fun of those who are willing to pay for them, will be disregarded. And, as it stands, would be something that would be immersively damaging to those -Around- the person that bought it, even if they deliberately did not. So, yes, actually.. as it stands the item IS forcing a very jarring immersion break on people whether they want to partake of it or not. That's not a rant, just a statement of observation.
Constructive commenting and questions ONLY
We know store items cause heated discussion. We know some longtime players find them problematic. Please try to be level-headed. We appreciate the passion you all have about LOTRO.
Constructive commentary:
1) Cut the price to 2500 TP, and you can guarantee you will generate in excess of double the sales you would otherwise make on the item priced as it currently is.this is the sort of item that you will make more money on by charging less than you currently propose asking... simply because of how exceedingly few people will be insane enough to pay that much for it as it currently stands.
2) I personally do not feel that it should function as a full speed mount. I am a player to whom atmosphere and immersion is important, and whether I choose to buy this item or not, I do not wish to have such an immersion-break forced on me by something so inanely stupid being functionally viable out and around the rest of middle-earth. It isn't and wouldn't be, and it doesn't belong anywhere but in humorous or light-hearted settings, and should remain so. For the quest it starred in, that was FINE, that was ENJOYABLE, even... having it as an -Actual- mount? No. That should not be.
3) If you want to have a store-only mount for which you can actually charge 5000 Turbine Points, and have it be considered acceptable, how about this for a concept: A premium mount that can open a swift-travel UI, wherever it is, and at any point activate a swift travel to any swift-travel location the character has access to... potentially at the consumption of a new consumable item that would be the equivalent of travel rations for your horse... said consumable could even be store-only as well, and you'd likely find -plenty- of buyers interested in that.
-Niara
Rider, Fighter, Virgin, Lover; Watcher, Chaser, Bearer of Pain. Victim tormented, Abused and Broken; Rise from the ashes and Hunt once again. And Vengeance Be Thy Oath.
It's a fun item, but the price is absurd. Y'all are strapping a bit of virtual felt and yarn on a broomstick and hawking it for $50. Good luck with that.
Yes, I would buy it; no, not at that price--perhaps at 500TP & account wide; there is nothing that you could add to a hobby horse that will entice me to shell out 5k TP.
So after my last non-very-polite post, which I won't delete, coz I find it situable, I figured few things for myself.
On your question what would make me buy the horse for that price I have 3 things to say.
1. I would buy the horse for 5000tp if you start to sell 1000tp for 1-2dollars. In two words I view 5-10$ as fair price for cosmetic horse. But discreased tp price won't happen, so this is out of the table.
2. I wouldn't buy this for 5000tp even if it was going alongside special perk, which instantly levels one of your characters to level 85. So honestly said I won't pay 5000tp for horse. I won't pay 5000tp for perk that instantly levels one character. I find both not worth the money per usefulness. I won't buy both of them combined for 5000tp, coz 5000tp is equivalent of a lot real life money. And real life money doesn't grow on the trees, as someone appearantly thinks.
3. The only item for which I would consider pay 5000tp would be... "trumpets now"... 'Permanent rights to play in Ettens without paying VIP'. Permanent, forever, account-wide. If you want my 50$, that's the only item I would be interested to spend them on. It's not good enough deal for you? Well... you can accept the fact 5000tp for cosmetic horse isn't good enough deal for us, your customers, for us, who pay money and make your profits.

Just as a quick note, it wouldn't hurt to provide information in the thread as well (with the usual disclaimer that the numbers are not necessarily final etc), but thanks to the rest of the people here - we know the numbers:
So!
1. The price is of course too much. The only real comparison that needs to be drawn is to the other available mounts from the store, usually ranging from 1500-3000 TP or so. Of note, that Revilers mount that was account wide. Of further note, mounts that are not only well designed, faster and have special meaning in many cases (class mounts, festival etc) tend to sit around 2000 TP.
As a mount that does have 'morale' and 'speed', perhaps the suggestions for ~100-500 TP are a little low given the other mounts available. 1000 TP to me, would be reasonable. You are getting a 'not-horse' (looks and general 'effect' is not there) but in function you ARE getting a horse. It's also a funny idea. At 1000 TP you are GUARANTEED to sell more of these items than at 5000 TP, and I think by a long margin over time. The more you sell initially, the more exposure it gives this item to people not normally looking in the store for such things, and thus more people question - get directed to the store - other profits from similar or even unrelated items in there.
Referrals essentially is what I am getting at here. Disregarding outrage over the initial 5000 TP price tag...the more people who buy this and are SATISFIED at a tag of ~1000 TP - the more people see it, show interest, buy it or other things from the store that until that point...may have been largely an unknown to them.
2. Possibly. The price is of course the main problem. Secondary however is that...well I already HAVE mounts that the game provided over time (deeds) or just purchasing them. That said I'm not of a "function over fancy" type of player, so it's not because your store mounts are failures or horrible looking, goodness no. Just don't need to pay money for something I already have.
3. At 5000 TP? That's a loaded question. At 2000-3000 TP you can get 'just a mount'...so TP as a currency is a very 'unhinged' concept. So much of it can get so little in terms of 'use', but quite a little (~50-200) can get actual tangible function in-game (pots/scrolls/task resets/relic removal/relics etc).
At 5000 - it would need to be MORE than just a mount. The easiest 'feature' would be account-wide, to match the Reviler purchase. We still aren't getting 'the worth' of 5000 TP by comparison to anything else in the store.
I am at a loss honestly. I feel as creative as the devs putting Writ of Health has a chance to increase armour (25%) on RK armour sets. I guess +68% mount speed, maybe higher morale?
OH! A sound effect. It is already a joke item - add an impossible sound effect like the 'clacking' sound of hollowed coconut halves hitting each other! How is it doing that!? The person's hands are busy! SILLY HORSE!
4. Well...not a question this is - your number 4. However it does raise a slight concern and I hope you and your colleagues can take this to heart:
When the significant bulk of a post regarding something fun and clever has to be a massive disclaimer to preemptively quell any 'outrage' (all of which I am sorry, would be utterly reasonable given past costs/function/cosmetic comparisons of such items) - maybe you need to consider WHY people would be so angry so immediately at the initial proposal.
I speak for myself - I DON'T hate the store. I hate a lot of things about it and what may have changed in-game as a result of it (primarily function being taken away - or 'practically' taken away - and put in the store), but ultimately it isn't a pay-to-win store, it doesn't stop people playing the game moreorless as we could before, and it has yet to cause ANY disagreement or calamity within my raids groups in relation to:
"You need X from store"
"I won't buy that!"
"Well then you're out the group"
But - you put so many things in there at such asinine prices...is it really any wonder why people get annoyed?
Next time your department adds things to the store and then shows it to us...think of it this way:
How would you react being told "It's 5000 TP" verse "It's $50"?
How would you react being told "For that price - it's for only your character, and is worse than other alternatives".
How would you react being told "DON'T say anything mean or horrible to us because we're precious delicate flowers and you're mean stinky players who just hate us!" when really...we actually DO try to give good feedback in the midst of some genuinely confusing business decisions.
If you feel outrage is coming so much that you need a disclaimer - consider what could be the point of outrage...THEN get back to us with the revised product for review.

3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
2. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! First off it is in no way worth that price, it isn't even better than the best mounts in the game that I can get FOR FREE!!! Second off, it is just silly stupid... I will not be happy seeing people riding these around like a normal horse, it is absurd and inappropriate for Middle Earth. Now as a cheap cosmetic item or clicky that works for 30 sec or so then sure.
3. A complete Housing revamp or expansion... that is about it. Quite honestly I didn't even purchase RoR until it was half off on Steam...

I think this is all a very good joke to make way for the real 5k TP Pegasus-esque mount. 300% run/fly speed and 500k health, can also be used for mounted combat in Moors.

Jinxycat - Warg - Creatures of the Fiery Kind
Use it if it dropped from a festival? Mmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh maybe.
This IS a joke.
The price IS a joke.
Go crazypants? No need, you already did with the idea, the price, and the tone of the feedback "request".
You want $50 from me? Hell, you want $0.50 from me? Fix the bugs, fix the lag, try including at least SOME of your ridiculous cash-grabs as part of the VIP package just for a change.
2. Would you be willing to purchase this item?
Nope. It's a pure cosmetic. I rarely spill coin over something both silly and useless (read: advantage-less, as it ought be).
3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
Nothing that shouldn't be attached to an expansion or adventurers pack equivalent.
In summary, make the proposed item cost even more. I look forward to seeing people who purchased it; that they may rightfully deserve the incredulously stares cast in their direction.
ArcticAurora 85 S/B Guardian // Pavello 85 OP Guardian // Canadian 85 Captain

Here's an idea. Keep them at 5000 TP. Wait about a month or so. Then create a lottery where it would be hard not to lose and give them away. Then watch the outraged cries of the rich and infamous, as all the rest of us poor people laugh our behinds off.
No? On a serious note, I really don't think that Turbine are money-hungry [enter explicative here], but I think that whoever has been setting prices in the store lately has fallen and bumped their head, and should be given med-leave until they come to their senses. Except for that Universal Toolkit. *drool*
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS! LET THEM STARVE! (Or feed them Saruman!)
I would be entirely uninterested in this item, and although it wouldn't really appeal to me as an item at all, the price point makes it not even a consideration. There are zero 'perks' that might be associated with a single novelty mount item that would compel me to spend the same amount as either a) ten months of my VIP bonus TPs, or b) roughly the price of a full expansion.
1. The price is not a joke. That is the proposed price for this item.
Fair enough, the price is not a joke. It is however too high.

I would happily buy it, at the same price that I've bought most of the other store purchased mounts, 1,995 tp. I personally have no problem paying for "fluff" horses in the store, but not at $50 a shot.
I also must echo some of the others who have stated that this is a bit more of a lore break than we should have with this being an actual full speed mount. I'm no lore purist, but this is stretching it to the point where I'm concerned that it is in danger of breaking.
Other folks have had some good suggestions about making it a limited time thing (crumbling whistle sort of thing) or making it a slower horse, similar to the founders steed. While I think those are both good ideas, doing that probably won't get my tp, but I do think they are better ideas than the current implementation.

There are a few things I could potentially see myself paying this much for, since we're dealing with mounts, maybe a stable yard item that is an actual building you can enter (with other players) and show off your mount collection. Something of that magnitude, not something like this though.

I agree that rants about the store and/or non-constructive criticism are unhelpful, but I feel at the same time part of the blame must fall on Turbine and/or WB. You (the company in general) seem to have no real direction with the store product, you put things in there willy-nilly and with no apparent thought given to the prices. Sales emails and/or forum posts go up and yet the sale prices are not reflected in the store. Items appear and disappear with no notice. Trying to find items in the store can be... challenging at times. The whole operation feels.... cheap is about the best way I can describe it, it does not instill confidence.
**edit** And being logged out when you're posting this on the forums is another thing that makes this seem like a cheap, fly-by-night operation. C'mon you're Turbine, part of the giant WB entertainment franchise, you should be able to do better at forums and ecommerce than a couple of high school kids using an out of the box solution.

I guess they are more interested in your answers to this point.
Because the price is ridiculous. I would never buy it. Even the other shop horses are way to expensive. I could easily afford to buy them, but i'm not stupid. I would if they had a more reasonable price and were account wide and i'm 100% sure they would sell more then 4 times, as they sell now if the price would be reudced about 50% and made accountwide. But 5000 points for a joke item, must be a joke, even if they say otherwise

I had typed a nice, long and constructive response to this post, but when I hit the submit button, I was magically logged out and it was lost.
Here's a suggestion, forget about $50.00 Hobby Horses and fix your forums.
But to answer your questions:
1. Then prepare to become the laughing stock of MMO's (and I mean that constructively).
2. No. Never.
3. Nothing. I would only purchase expansions at this price point. Stick with the small "conveniences". You're wasting a lot of dev time working on items that only sell to a select few people, if at all. 100 people buying $1 items is worth a heck lot more to you than one person buying a $50 item.
I see an inherent problem with a store item that you want to charge 5k Turbine Points for:
If you want folks to be willing to shell out $50 worth of points, it has to be DARN useful.
But if you actually create an item that is SO useful that folks are willing to pay $50 for it, you're likely going to anger all the players that something so useful has to be purchased rather than earned in game.
That being said, the only mount that would be worth $50 would be a flying one. But if I saw folks cruising around on a flying mount and found out that there was no way to earn it in game - only shell out $50 worth of TP -it might very well be enough to force a rage quit.
I just don't see how you are going to make this idea work.
It's actually a 40% run speed. Check it out after purchase.
I'm under the impression the 40% is intended and the 62% is a typo (from reworking a copied description.)
You're probably right because it sure didn't feel like a 62% mount when I rode it around the Yule festival. Fun to ride, as long as you don't consider the price point.
Now that that's out of the way...
Who wants to make a LOTRO version of this video? :P
1. The price is not a joke. That is the proposed price for this item.
**facepalm** This is too expensive for what boils down to a novelty item.

But even then, I'd only shell out maybe 1k TP for it, if that. This is still a novelty item, and it should not be as expensive as it is.
I have a question:
Did the price of 5k arise from being aware of many accounts that generated thousands of Turbine Points due to their lifetime sub and therefore also be able to spend this high price with ... lets just say less impact on their "real account"?
1. The price is not a joke. That is the proposed price for this item.
As stated, noone is laughing. Customer disbelief is not a good reaction. Happy, excited responses are good. At this price, you are not going to get that.
I am not sure what the justification of this is, it smacks of Eve monocle debacle-ness. Making something so 'prohibitively elite' may garner you short term cash, but in the end you burn so much good-will that your user base is even more alienated. This is a lose-lose proposition.
I can bet you sold more horse dyes that last week it was on sale, than you have prior. Because the pricing was more reasonable. More sales at lower price will net you equal or more than fewer at higher price. And you won't frustrate as many people who feel shut out of that content/toy.
2. Would you be willing to purchase this item?
I would love to - at a price that is a joke (if this price isn't). A fluff toy, an item that one can use for RP, this is a brilliant thing. I would love to earn it in game, failing that, I would have loved to buy it for my eccentric hobbit lass. But I refuse to pay even half this price (should it ever happen). Moreso, this price makes me blink and re-evaluate everything else I have ever purchased. Re-evaluation is not a good reaction to generate. It is counter to impulse buying, and can stifle sales and goodwill. I should thank you for that, at least. My money will be more wisely spent in the future.
3. What sort of features might entice you to purchase an item at this price point?
An expansion of the scope of RoR. Where a new area, mechanic (warsteed), and storyline are offered. You are offering a popular fluff item for the price of what many payed for Riders of Rohan itself. Please read that sentence again. It should seriously tell you something about how convoluted the store is getting. CCP provide(d) expansions free of charge to its subscribers, and for that reason I can understand their insane cosmetic pricing. But it seems that this is an attempt to have cake and eat it. Hybrid models can be messy in this way.
May I also add that the initial post may be meant kindly, but comes across as very condescending? I trust that it was not intended that way, but it truly sets a negative tone to this thread. Kindly reconsider how asking for feedback is a two way communication. Even the hyper-negative 'crazypants' response may contain kernels of worth in it.
When I first saw this thread, I assumed it would be just like the hobby horse in the daily. You could mount it and run wherever you wanted on it just like you do around Harwick. I assumed the price would be high (500 TP) and I wouldn't actually buy one. I didn't really care one way or the other and figured that I would get a chuckle seeing people on it every now and again
Know that I have heard more about it I am thoroughly disturbed by it. I don't want to see people riding this faster than you can run. 62% mount speed is terrible.
I can't even comprehend the asking price. 5,000 TP? I won't even spend 2,000 on class mounts that I like, unless I hit Powerball, I would never buy this.
Very disappointed that this is even being considered.
If you read this far then you realise that everyone considers the price to be beyond ridiculous and the fact that you had to ask in the first place makes me fear for the future of the game. The majority of store items are way overpriced and I like it that way, it stops me spending money. 3700 to complete an artisan crafting tier? The store pricing is nothing short of laughable.
Selling 1000 hobby horses at 150tp nets you more than 10 at 5000. Lower prices across the board in the store and revenue will surge. The fact that you can't see this is astounding. There is a reason that the revenue model is called Microtransactions.
But as far as I am concerned you have got your last euro from me. This was once a fantastic game that embraced the lore of Tolkien it looks fantastic and it was easy to lose yourself in it. Glowy hands on minstrels, flashy effects on weapons, sparkling mannequins in remote wartorn areas and now the ability for someone to zoom past me riding a fecking hobby horse is enough.
I'll log in and keep my crafters updated but unless there is a change in direction I won't be playing (spending) anymore. This drive toward a flashy manga like kids game has just turned away this old timer. I think that is the agenda from the powers that be, get rid of the old guard that chose the game because of the intellectual property and concentrate on milking cash from the demographic that the free to play launch brought in.
Seriously, sit yourselves down and have a hard think about this, then think about the lore that you are supposed to be developing the game around.
Time for me to look for a new game. So, so long and thanks for all the fish. It was a wonderful journey to this point. I hope you turn from this path but I fear that I am now in a minority.
