I find being able to play music in LOTRO one of the enjoyable aspects of the game. When the grind gets boring I like to whip out my lute, play a few songs then get back to it. You can see me playing anywhere, so if you see some nut-job standing on a rock out cropping playing, it's probably me lol
But I am having problems finding a good selection of ABC format music, and I am a bit slow on tech stuff so it would take weeks for me to start to get it.
The Fat lute seems about down for the count, been 403ed out of the song book for days. I've checked other ABC hosting site but they are gone; old links, have little selection, or have some other sort of ABC format that doesn't work well in game. I have the midi2abc app, but that gives me something that looks like it needs quite a bit of editing to work; I'm sure I can figure it out but how long it may take is questionable lol
So my question is, is this some passed by thing? Is making LOTRO ABC files and hosting them waning?
I read some one in the forum gripping about hearing new music in game and it harshes his RP, so I have been looking for more appropriate music. I can't seem to find much that sounds right on a lute in game though.
Personally I think Jimi Hendrix's wind cried marry sounds great on a Lute.
I really like the music system in LOTRO too, to me it's a truly unique feature that I'm surprised other major MMOs haven't implemented. Back when LOTRO first came out I posted a bunch of songs, but that was before they implemented chords so it's was pretty difficult and certain songs I tried just didn't come across well. I recently reinstalled the game and started redoing songs with chords and they sound much better, I think. (So far recently I posted four parts of the Nutcracker, Bach's first prelude and fugue, and an FFVII simple farm song that I think goes well in LOTRO's setting.)
Having only come back recently I have no idea how often people check in on these music forums, but my guess is that if you have a particular song you would like transcribed posting a request here will probably do the trick. For my part I'm mainly doing classical music since it generally sounds good on a lute in game and fits the setting, although personally modern songs don't bother me one way or another. As long as it sounds good that's basically all that matters, right?

Well it appears that at one time this forum was active. I can only assume that since the new has worn off playing music in LOTRO so has the interest.
The way it looks I will need to figure this stuff out and do it myself. I guess I will have to find the song I want in midi, use midi2abc, then edit the abc file so it works in LOTRO. Something I can do once I learn how, but it is going to take a while.
Wish someone would take over the fat lute and fix it. I can't help unless they want new graphics lol

These are the ones that pop immediately to my mind, as they are ones (Though I'm sure there are more) that choose to *publicly* share their creations, while there are others that choose not to share their creations.
