Booted from the world because you are logged into another world
Was just playing on Elendilmir when I got a black screen and a popup message saying I was booted from the world because I was logged into Riddermark. I don't recall ever seeing this in my 5+ years playing. Went to Turbine Account Support and changed my password immediately. Was this a hacking attempt or did it happen to other folks too? I have a hard time believing my password could have been hacked because it's 15 characters, numeric and alpha, and I change it at least once a month.
people have had this before, ususaly is just says somthing similar to your message but it dosent usualy name a server, in most cases this is just a server error
check your under your characters on the forum or logon to ridermark and check if there are any toons your not aware of
Same thing just happened to me. I was playing on Imladris and got a message saying that I was being booted because I had logged onto Brandywine. I was playing on Brandy a few hours before this happened.
I am getting this a lot today too. Going from Landroval and Windfola. I log out completely on one server and restart client, but then after I get on the next server, it kicks me off saying my account is logged into the previous one. Changed password, but rereading old forums, it seems it's a bug.

OK, maybe it's some kind of authentication bug then. I had been playing on Riddermark an hour or two before getting the message on Elendilmir. So maybe it had something to do with the old connection.
This has just happened to me as well, booted from one server because I had just 'logged into [another] server' I had been playing on an hour or two earlier.
From the above replies, hopefully it is just a bug rather than a hacking attempt, but I have changed my password now already.
This has happened to me two times today and never before. The only thing I have done that I haven't done before is to enter the Lottery. The first time I got booted I checked the lottery page while waiting to enter the game again and saw that I had won something on the server it told me I had logged in on when it booted me, so I thought it might be related. Until it booted me again xD
And while writing this I got logged out from the forums too.
Well, playing devils advocate - I smell a rat, there be evil deeds afoot methinks.
Something from Turbine explaining what's occouring would be very reassuring to players right now, we're I to lose 5 years plus of account at this point I'd be devastated.

So could it really be related to lottery somehow? Earlier today I logged my "secondary server" character on so I could see what she had won from a lottery (just minutes before that I had checked my lottery widget that she had gotten some prize). Then, maybe hours later, I logged on to my primary server, adventured normally for some time but then got booted from the server. It said that I had been logged in on the other server. No need to say I got a bit nervous...
Immediately run a couple of scans. Nothing suspicious found. Then I checked all my characters on both worldss and everything was fine. Submitted a bug report via that "?"-button. Now gonna change my pw's even though it seems the problem might be on Turbine's end this time.

I was grouped with a friend earlier when it happened to him today as well. Needless to say this is a VERY scary feeling since you know YOU aren't the one logging into the other server. Serious enough that passwords were changed, a ticket filed, (a GM repsonded that there would be an investigation) and still a very very serious *GASP OMG moment*. I'd hope that there is some official turbine response, because this is about the most negative play experience you can have...feeling violated on your own characters.
"You have been booted because you have logged in to the world Firefoot."
Then a few hours later, it said,
"You have been booted because you have logged in to the world Arkenstone."
Then finally just minutes ago,
"You have been booted because you have logged in to the world Silverlode."
The running connection we found is that she's won a mount in each of these worlds, and had to log in to each to claim them. Just to be safe, she changed her password, but the odd thing is, I won a mount, and have yet to get this error on my screen. However, I've been playing in the same world I won the mount in all day.
It would be nice if a technician from Turbine would chime in here to confirm what's happening.
Same thing happened to me. Was logged on to Silverlode earlier today, and booted from Dwarrowdelf around 1930 PDT with the message that I had been logged on to Silverlode.
Changed password immediately of course.
Won Pax mounts on both servers today as well.
Glad to come here and see that it appears to be a bug, was a little worried about being hacked there for a bit. Still not sure it wasn't a hacking attempt, but no destruction seems to have happened and the password reset is working.
On a side note, for those who may not know it, today was a holiday in the US and there may not be much of a staff on duty at Turbine.
a ticket filed, (a GM repsonded that there would be an investigation)
What kind of Ticket? I tried submitting a ticket too, but it seems I sent it to the wrong department, and I have no clue which one of the many many options to choose :/
There should be a guide written in a more common/simple English for us who don't understand big official words in other languages than our own xD
Seems to me I recall something similar happening a while back -- a year or so ago perhaps. It only happened to those that were using Steam to log into LOTRO (or using Steam at the same time, don't recall which). But it was Steam that was causing the disconnects. Wonder if something similar is going on again?

I can't speak for others but in my case it's not about Steam. Never used it and I actually had to google it to be sure what it is

Was playing on brandy monster play, switched back to Imladris, Booted twice in about 8 hours saying I logged onto Brandywine. Would like to know whats causing this via a word from Turbine, wont bother bogging them down with more tickets tho, hopefully they reply here.

A post by one of the Devs in the Beta Forums, implies that this is the result of a change which Turbine has made recently.
One infers from the post that there is apparently a large amount of "attacking" taking place now to LOTRO accounts.
You wouldn't happen tp have a link to that post, would you? I know you'd need to post the link, since it'd be against the rules to copy and paste the text from Beta to live forums...

I cannot access the beta forums, but I sure would like some official word on this issue. Sooner rather than later (for a change). It would be nice to know if I need to be changing my password with every login or something.
Oddly, this happened to me as well. Brandywine - Riddermark lottery - relog back to Brandy (after a chat) and booted at logon that claimed I was logged on in Ridder.
Perhaps it's just latency changing servers?
Perhaps there is some third party service handling the login servers whenever server load is high?
As I thought, that post does not imply that there is a large amount of attacking taking place on lotro accounts. Rather, it's a standard answer anyone, dev or not, would give when told this happened to someone. Most who've posted in this thread knew to change thier passwords as soon as this happened.
I can't infer from that post that something horrible is going on and turbine is not telling us about it.
However.....
I can infer from past experience that something horrible MAY be going on and turbine is not telling us about it.

Especially when posts get removed quoting someone refering to the problem, someone in authority has had the time to do that but not to let us in on any info - typical.

Which is quite obvious because different departments handle different things. If OCR removes a post because it violates the "do-not-quote-from-beta-forums" rule they are free to do it - they are not the guys keeping the server going or looking into technical problems and thus can properly not contribute anything to the problem as long as no information has been handed to them.
Have had this happen in the past on live servers and happened on Bullroarer yesterday.
On every occasion it has happened, I had been on the server that is mentioned when I get kicked at a point earlier in the day. At no point have I had any problems with characters being ransacked or otherwise moved / changed when I log on to check them, and certainly never had passwords changed. I've gotten to have the opinion that it's something on the Turbine side that glitches occasionaly and reactivates a closed connetion somehow, and it seems to be related to winning the lottery.
For example, after today's booting, a character on the server mentioned had won the Pax mount in the lottery, and I know on at least 2 of the other occasions it occured when I won a mount also... perhaps something in whatever is required to grant the mount via email does some sort of psuedo login, and if you happen to have been on that server earlier, but on a different server at the time of the mount being delivered causes the problem.
Having characters on multiple servers and logging them in / out seems to expose this much more than when I only played on a single server, assumedly because if I'm logging into a different character on the same server it cleans up connections better.
On pretty much every occasion it's happened to me, I've seen other people asking in game if anybody else has had it happen to them, so it seems to occur in waves when it does happen.
Out of curiosity... how many of the people who got booted with this message won a lottery of some type when it occured?
Elebornir 85 LM / Eldanathior 77 Minstrel / Eoemer 75 Champion. Too many alts to list

All of these conditions appear to be the case, not only for me, but most posters in this thread. Multiple servers, logged in on the same day, lottery winnings, et al.
As I said before, it's heartening to know (through other players) that it appears to be some server glitch rather than a mass hacking attempt.

That's a really big help, thanks.

I've had the same phenomenon. I do a lot of server hopping, and one day this week I was kicked off several times for being logged into another server, after I had completely quit the client and restarted it. I logged off and changed my password immediately, and it hasn't happened since. I've checked my characters and none of them were suddenly off somewhere unexpected, or missing all their gear or gold. The fact that it's happening to quite a few people in this thread suggests to me that it's some kind of bug related to server connections or latency, rather than a mass hacking attack. But it would be much nicer to actually know what's going on.
This just happened to me as well. First time ever in two years.
I had logged into Landroval and was playing on Crickhollow an hour later when I got booted three times with the "you have logged into Landroval" message. I promptly changed my password.
My step son and husband have both experienced this issue and they have changed their passwords multiple times, only to have it happen again. The odd thing is when they were booted because they were logged into the Vilya server... which I happened to be logged into... I did not see them come online. Their characters were not deleted or messed with in anyway. And when I sent a tell (just in case it was a hacker and they had gone anonymous) both were marked as offline. I am starting to suspect a bug. Both of them had been on the vilya server earlier that day as well. We've reported the bug, changed passwords again and yeah... what a pain!
I will just add my personal expeience;
"I was getting bored a lot recently on the main server [Nimrodel] and I have restarted in [Firefoot] just recently. While playing on one of the new characters, I suddenly get a black screen saying I was booted because I logged into the [Nimrodel] server, and vice versa.
I hadn't been home long since my eye checkup earlier today when this began happening, but this is the first I have had this problem. I had changed my password and it seemed stable for 10 minutes, so I returned to play [Firefoot], and while in the Old Forest, I was booted for the 3-4th time now at that point."
I took some advice, stayed logged out for 30 minutes or so, and Chose one server to play on, Firefoot currently, and So far at least, I have not been booted. And comparing to what others have said, I don't even know what this lottery thing is, so that has nothing to do with me being booted. I suspect server being slow.
This has been happening to me tonight as well. Logged into Riddermark to check on some toons, then exited and logged over to Arkenstone. A little while later I get booted from Arkenstone with message that my account had logged into Riddermark. So of course I'm freaking out thinking my account is hacked, I immediately change my account password and log back into Riddermark to check on things. Everything seems ok. So I log back into Arkenstone again and continue what I was doing. About half an hour later, again booted, with the message that I've logged into Riddermark. Luckily I found this thread so I'm no longer having a heart attack, but this is more than a little frustrating.
I tried changing my password, but the problem continued. I get disconnected with that message after a few minutes on a server. I really don't think it's a security breach, and there's no sign yet of tampering with my characters. Perhaps servers aren't detecting logouts in a timely fashion.
Edit: After it booted me from Brandywine again (claiming I was logged in to Windfola) I logged into Windfola for real, and this time it stayed connected.

Yeah that was happening a lot yesterday. And in over 2 years playing I've never experienced that before. Just good to know it was several of us and not just one of us this was happening too. I try later and see if it is happening again today.
Cheers,
Taure
