I'm relatively new to the Moors (R6) and am trying to find a niche for my warden. I love raiding in the moors and consider myself a follower in group play, and follow leader instructions in battle. My question is: do raid leaders expect/prefer wardens be upfront dps/interrupts or ranged dps/interrupts? Or something else altogether? I know what I prefer, but would like to know what raid leaders expect. Of course, ambushing the target is always my first move when possible, but after that, once in combat, ambush is unavailable. Just looking for a little feed back in order to maximize a wardens effectiveness.
You should play in the style you prefer, and since warden is so versatile you can do just about anything, my recommendation though would be that you stick primarily to ranged and only switch to melee if you face enemy melee classes, but the creeps will prefer to take out the softer classes first, so you can feel free to stay at the front and range away (you might harassed at first but if you get heals they will give up), and if you guys are pushing or if you are being pushed pop defiant challenge and maybe switch to determination and soak up as much enemy dps as you can while your allies retreat, also if you have the 5-pieces of the vigilance set your fierce resolve and resolution will slow the enemies en masse by 25%, giving your allies an even better chance to get away/catch the enemy and keep your morale up when they start targeting you.
and if you die to save their sorry hides, oh well you are called a 'Warden' for a reason

Heya Izzi, always great seeing you out there dude.
As you know, there are a bunch of different roles we can play in raid vs raid... ranged/melee interrupts on healers, ranged/melee dps, melee debuffing the raid target if you have the Spear Lord's set (-incoming healing debuff), grabbing any npcs that get pulled & tanking them while the raid focuses on killing creeps, staying at range and continually dropping out of combat in order to Ambush the raid target, and probably even a few more I can't think of right now.
I'll sometimes ask the raid leader what he/she would like me to focus on. They might have a specific healer they want to assign you to interrupt/fear. If you have the Spear Lord's 5-piece set let them know what that set bonus does & see if they want you to be debuffing the main (or secondary) target. They may not care what you do, but it's good to ask.
Overall I'd say to take inventory on what the raid seems to be lacking at the moment and do your best to strengthen that weak point. Also take an honest look at your strengths/weaknesses and let that help you decide. For me personally, I know that my movement out there is pretty terrible. Therefore I prefer to use Assailment at range to interrupt healers or dps the main target. In that ranged stance I don't have to be the best at moving around to do my job. Don't get me wrong, I love debuffing the incoming healing of a target into oblivion, but depending on the target it can be difficult for me to chase them around & get that job done. That's just me though.
Hit me up anytime in game if you have warden questions. I'm no expert but I love talking shop about my favorite class! Also feel free to hit up the folks in the warden forums as well... even if it's a pvmp question. I've found them to be quite helpful.
Your primary targets in a raid are war leaders and defilers. try to interrupt them as much as you can. I always debuff the healers so the raid can switch to the target and dps them down once I have enough debuffs on them. If you do not see any healers then stay range and run your bleeds on everything. There should be a minimum of 1k bleeds on a every target. At this point protect your own healers as much as you can. Being a warden you usually get targeted last if there are hunters and minis in the raid.
Got it...npcs's first. Very funny bloodloaf. All good stuff guys, thanks for the responses. I seem to be on the right track. I nearly always roll in assailment and switch when needed. Until I get the full spear lord set for the debuff, I'll keep interrupts on healers, bleeds on everything else I can target, slows and ambushes when called for.
Also, I log into the warden channel every time I log on, and will use it when I have specific questions. See you all out there.
P.s. I'm really looking forward to the changes to the moors with RoR expansion.
did you just say your looking forward to the changes? ahahahahah it'll be a all red map it'll be dead for freeps and pvp will just rot and die in a hole at the rate turbine is changing things for the worst..
All warden's are now required to 1v1 each other when more than 1 warden is present. When more than 2 warden's show up at any one time in the moors, round robin 1v1 takes precedent as the number of wardens increases, and so on. This should cancel out any unnatural advantages.
Thank you, this has been a public service announcement.
oh...and uh, you can't hit back when your hit by anyone other than a fellow warden.
