The standard Windy Acres Ranch Horse Racing and Talent Show rules apply with one exception –

The talent show will take place after the race.

    Talent Show Rules
In a talent show, a contestant wins by entertaining the crowd and earning their votes. This can be done by playing music, reciting a poem, doing a skit, telling jokes, dancing, performing magic tricks, or anything else that is family-friendly.
    • Sign-up by contacting the host before the show begins. Only a limited number of sign-ups will be accepted, plus alternates.
    • You must only take the stage when your name is called by the host. If you are not ready to take the stage, you will be disqualified and an alternate will be called up instead.
    • You have 3 minutes on stage to perform. If you don’t exit the stage before your time is up, you will be disqualified.
    • You can do any type of family-friendly (PG) performance. Vulgar language and offensive topics are not allowed.
    • If several people perform as a group, they must tell the host ahead of time which of them will receive the prize.
    • Any sort of unsportsmanlike behavior (such as spamming during another person’s act) will result in disqualification and your vote will not count.
    • At the end, each participant and member of the audience can cast one vote for the winner. You can vote for yourself.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Horse Race Rules
    • Riders must register to participate in the race. Registration closes 15 minutes before the event begins.
    • Registrations are accepted at the race host’s discretion. Players who have been barred from races for unsportsmanlike behavior may not register.
    • Riders must be at the start location at least 5 minutes before the race begins. Participants who pre-registered must check in at least 10 minutes before race time.
    • Riders must join a raid fellowship with the judges and remain in it until the race results are announced.
    • Goats are not allowed.
    • No mount speed enhancers will be permitted. All buffs (temporary ability enhancements) must be cancelled before the race begins.
    • Riders must only use their horse or pony for transportation. Stables, milestones, wayfaring, camps, rally points, acorns, mustering horns, summons and all other non-mount forms of travel are forbidden.
    • Spamming fellow riders, giving a false start signal, having allies ride in the wrong direction to mislead riders, and all other forms of unsportsmanlike behavior will result in disqualification.
    • Riders must clear all checkpoints in the proper direction and order. Course judges are the final authority in determining if a checkpoint has been properly cleared. A decision can be appealed if screenshots or video can be presented immediately after the race.
    • If a rider falls from his horse, he may mount up again and continue the race. He will not be disqualified for swimming if he is dismounted at a water crossing.
    • The winner will be determined by the first rider to cross the finish line, not the first mount.

The race begins at an imaginary line that crosses the road, starting at the eastern post at the end of the path coming down from the Methel-stage.

Checkpoint One – Riders must pass clockwise around the far silo at Sandson’s Farm. (32.1S/74.8W)

Checkpoint Two – Riders must pass west-to-east between the banner posts and the road sign at the starting area. (32.0S/70.0W)

Checkpoint Three – Riders must pass around the easternmost pillar of the Yale-height. This can be passed clockwise, coming up the hill from the south, or counter-clockwise, coming up the hill from Woodhall. (33.1S/65.0W)

    View from a distance.

Finish Line – The same as the start line. Riders must pass between the banner posts and road sign.

A clockwise pass means riding with the checkpoint on your right.
A counter-clockwise pass means riding with the checkpoint on your left.

Here are some tips for those who want to compete in the talent show:

    * Sign up with Kiralynn well in advance. Only 15 people will be allowed to compete, plus alternates.

    * There are many ways to perform. You can play music, recite a poem, tell a short story, do a stand-up comedy act, perform a short skit, do a magic show, and so on. Be creative.

    * Prepare everything you have to say in advance. Use macros, LotroPad, cut/paste or whatever it takes to /say your text quickly. The audience will get bored if they have to wait for you to type. Check your spelling in advance.

    * Stand near the very front of the stage so that the audience can hear you. Consider repeating your text in the AlesAndTales channel.

    * Wear a memorable outfit. Try to wear something that goes well with the style of your performance.

    * Test to make sure you can complete your performance in 3 minutes or less.

    * If something goes wrong, don't panic. Try to continue with a minimum of fuss and delay.

    * Don't walk away from the keyboard. Direct all of the event text into a separate chat tab. If your name is called and you miss it, you'll be disqualified.

    * Make sure that you are in the host's Raid group. All of the rules and instructions will be given in that channel. Use /ra to chat in raid -- /f will not reach all members of a raid.

    * Bow to the audience before you exit the stage.

    Good luck!

    Important Note:

There are separate sign-up lists for the talent show and horse race.
When you contact Kiralynn, make sure to tell her which of the events you are signing up for.
You may sign up for both events.

When you sign up for the horse race, tell her your horse's name and breed (IE: Jester's or Dusk-watch).
For the talent show, let her know the general type of act you'll be performing (IE: stand-up comedy or music).

The horse race will take place before the talent show.

Meet at the Methel-stage near Bywater.

Standard Time or Daylight time? While most U.S. users may assume you meant EDT (since most of the U.S. is currently on Daylight time), it pays to be precise lest people show up an hour late (9:30 EST is 10:30 EDT), and folks elsewhere may be using a converter that will give them the wrong hour.

I am sorry you missed it, if you did. ST stands for ServerTime. (This probably should be spelled out in announcements.)
To see servertime in game, you can type /servertime
It is not the same for all servers, and it is not your computer's time, so you'd have to know the server's timezone or just login to it.

Probable reason for differing servertimes: maintenance outages can be scheduled for low pop hours which will vary by region.

Wednesday night attracted racing fans and talent show enthusiasts from far and wide, packing the aisles of the Methel-stage near Bywater. At the gate, fireworks were launched to guide guests to their destination. This year's Shadowfax Sprint boasted prizes beyond any that had been offered before. The excitement in the air was palpable. Guest musicians entertained the boisterous crowd as competitors arrived for the big event.

Eleven jockeys faced one of the toughest courses in the Windy Acres line-up for jumping. There were numerous fence and wall jumps, in addition to two steep, rocky cliffs. Beorbrand arrived in Bywater early, along with his most formidable rivals, Craicwyth, Lifebringer and Caiyyd. These veterans have given each other cold stares across the start line more than once this season. Craicwyth, along with several others, had been spotted surveying the course in the days leading up to the event. That's always a sign that the competition will be fierce.

Everyone walked down the hill to the road for the start of the race. The Call to Post was met with cheers from racing fans lining both sides of the track. Spirited horses pawed the ground in anticipation. Anxious riders gripped their reins tightly and focused on the path ahead. With a shout and a drop of her arm, Kiralynn sent the horses charging to glorious victory or ignominious defeat.

Lifebringer and "Buck" took command early, finding the shortest path through Waymeet to Sandson's Farm. His mount was behaving perfectly. He cruised on the lead and gained a full length advantage by the first turn. Fans who bet on him cheered and shouted encouragement as he crossed the race's halfway mark several lengths in the lead.

Several riders with an advantage coming into the back stretch found their steeds lacked the necessary endurance at the Yale-height. One suffered a devastating dismount when his headstrong horse refused an obstacle. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

When Artemieth's hunter steed "Trapper" made the surge in the gallop toward Tuckborough, it came as a great surprise to everyone who bet on the favorites. She skillfully navigated the wolf-infested farmlands to overtake the competition with amazing equestrian skill.

Not far behind her, an epic battle of wills was taking place between Beorbrand on "Swiftwind" and Maleko on "Dusk". In the back stretch, the pair overtook Caiyyd, forcing her into fifth place. Their horses fought for the lead, challenging each other relentlessly up to the finish line. Two judges and several screenshots were reviewed to determine that Beorbrand had led by a nose. Despite being edged out, Maleko's performance demonstrated a coolness under pressure that is rare in untried riders.

The lead horses thundered down the final furlong. At the finish line, it was Lifebringer, followed by Artemieth and Beorbrand, with Maleko shadowing for fourth place. Rioria won a Sinister Keg for betting on Lifebringer. Beorbrand won 500 Turbine Points and an account-wide Perlino steed. Artemieth won 1000 TP and a Perlino. Lifebringer won 1500 TP and the Legendary edition of the Riders of Rohan expansion.

After many fireworks, toasts and congratulations, the crowd moved back to the Methel-stage for the start of the talent show. One contestant lost his nerve due to stage fright, leaving nine contestants vying for the audience votes. First up on stage was Elyita, telling a humorous short story about drunken revelry. At one point, Elyita called her horse up on stage to help demonstrate her wild tale.

Next up, Beorbrand and three assistants formed a drum corps that proved just how versatile and under-utilized these instruments really are.

Artemieth rode on stage with "Trapper", recently recovered from his efforts in the race. She played a beautiful lute solo and sang lyrics that earned much applause.

Kiralynn introduced Alloyblue next. Many members of the audience found the jokes on aging and the elderly amusing, however it was clear that several older attendees were less than approving.

Carica came on stage next with assistant Beorbrand, carrying his infamous bagpipes. It was no wheezing country ballad that was played, but "Entry of the Gladiators" by Julius Fucik! With a flip, Carica magically changed into a brightly-colored outfit. The next three minutes were filled with a series of outstanding circus acts, including juggling, fire-breathing, equestrian tricks and sword-swallowing. The audience was amazed, crowding the stage and cheering at the top of their lungs. No talent show act ever received such an instant outpouring of approval.

No doubt nervous to be following such an act, Justor arrived on stage and performed two short songs with a large horn. Craicwyth walked proudly on stage next and played a song of his own creation, expressing his love of Autumn cider. Apothecary graced the stage after him, demonstrating his skill in animal training with a raven and a bear. He also alarmed the audience by turning invisible after reading a mysterious scroll.

The talent show's grand finale was a live musical performance by Godwineson. Due to the limitations of Raid grouping, only two dozen people were able to hear his music. Those lucky enough to be part of the group were so impressed that he still earned a significant number of votes.

Finally, it was time for the audience to vote for the winners. All of the contestants were called up on stage. Lively music entertained the crowd as the votes were tallied. A hush fell over the crowd as Kiralynn returned to announce the results.

An honorable mention went to Beorbrand and his team for their upbeat drum music. Third place, 500 Turbine Points and an account-wide Perlino steed was awarded to Godwineson for his real-life music. Second place, 1000 TP and a Perlino were awarded to Artemieth for her lute solo. First place, 1500 TP and the Legendary edition of the Riders of Rohan expansion were awarded to Carica for her amazing circus performance.

As the fireworks finale began, door prizes were awarded to members of the audience who correctly guessed the name of Kiralynn's favorite horse. There are now two more Sinister Kegs lurking in houses, waiting to tempt unsuspecting revelers.

Congratulations to the winners! Most of all, thank you to the volunteers who make these events possible – Aldekim, Anthemisi, Carica, Elyita, Rainwood and Tinki. Thanks to Floradine for donating the Perlino steeds. Many thanks to Celestrata of Turbine for donating the Riders of Rohan and Turbine Point prizes, as well as providing advertising and support for the Olde World Adventures.

We hope to see you at the next race and fashion show, the Haunted Derby, scheduled for Saturday, October 13th at 1:00pm ST/EST at the party tent in Buckland. The theme of the fashion show is Halloween costumes. The horse race will take riders through the Old Forest and Barrow-downs.
