    Tomb of Elendil

Ran it for the first time today with a PUG and got SMASHED. Our makeup was a not the best (3 Champs, 1 LM, and lvl 75 Hunter), but due to the lvl 75 with us we made it to the Turtle at the end before getting wiped. But even then the turtle smashed us to pieces. Any advice for completing this? (I know we could have used a minstrel or two)

This is a pretty tough instance, especially on-level (though it's great fun). What helps is if the tank keeps pounding on the turtle from the front, while everybody else kites around and attacks from the back. Protect any healers you may have too because the mini-turtles tend to go straight for the healers.

I was in a PUG doing this about a month or two ago and we finally succeeded with a very kind L75 warden tanking while the rest of us attacked the turtle from the back. Took a few wipes before succeeding though. Good luck!!

Glirithil, Mini / Mirrie, Guard / Leohtwyn, Captain / Calanor, LM / Lothmíriel, RK / And more!

all you have to do is making a FM, so having a burg (or a guardian with the ability to increase random FM) i quite useful

however, having a 75 hunter should be very funny.
as a champ, i soloed it at 75 (or maybe around 70) and without any FM it was veeeery slow. Not difficult, since i was in glory and i neither used emergency skills, but really boring.

Exclamation Shouldn't this be a RAID???

Okay. My wife and I each have our mains, a 48 champ & a 47 guard. We just came back from trying ToE for the second time, and fell flat on our faces. The first time we went, it was just the two of us at level 42, we used the strategy of drawing out mobs bit by bit into the empty halls to pick them out, and though it took FOREVER, we seemed to be doing okay, regardless of how many times we wiped.

But 4 hours was just too long, and we had to stop, tuck the kids to bed, and SLEEP. We barely went halfway through that place, and it was HUGE! So, that first time was over 2 months ago.

Tonight was our second try. This time I had a kinnie with me, a 41 guard, and a 29 RK. We went through it pretty good, thinking we had it in the bag. Sure. No problems. We wiped a lot less, but we didn't care. We were making quicker progress than the first time!

Finally after clearing the big room with the lake in the middle of it, we turned a corner... and there were the Kergrims.

I stood there with disbelief at their morale numbers. 12,500 per??? Are you kidding me??? It was nuts.

I remember standing just outside of their AoE, and asking my kinnie, "Uh, what do we do now?"

"Maybe we can draw out a couple of them if I just get close enough."

    "Okay"

You could've stamped the word NOOB on our foreheads for that one. The whole football team of them came after us.
And we bravely fought for the next 7 seconds till we finally wiped. While we stood in our death circle, kind of overwhelmed, and asked the Regional for help. No luck with that. Friends were gone, or unresponsive. Kinnies were far or scarce.

I'm beginning to think Imladris isn't one of the more popular servers in Lotro, but what do I know?

Anyway, we decided to call it a night. We may try it again when we're level 65 or higher. And what's funny is that I had no idea about the turtle at the end until I started going through the forum pages! And I thought the Kergrim football squad was bad. At least now I know about dropping to the floor from the cliff, breaking the shell, and dealing with all those adds.

And as a side note, here's my noob questions of the day:
-what the heck is an FM?
-what's a yellow conjunction? (Sounds like an eye disease.)
-what exactly is it a burglar does that makes the difference in beating the turtle?
-what room mechanism? What's in the room by the Kergrim that could be used to draw them out 1 or 2 at a time?

I'm off to sleep now. Maybe some kind souls out there will take pity, and answer my questions in the meantime.

FM (fellowship manuever) and Conjunction are two different names for the same thing.
Under certain circumstances (only when you are grouped, you cannot get FM's/CJ's when you are playing solo) a mob can be stunned in a way that triggers a special event, a Fellowship Manuever/Conjunction.

If you have the mob that was stunned as your target, a wheel with 4 colours will appear on your screen. If you have a different mob targeted a red and white target icon will appear alowing you to switch to the stunned mob as your target, then you get the colour wheel.

Each member of the group clicks a colour on the wheel and a special effect happens, but there is a time limit to do this.

The four colours represent different effects.
Red, instant damage. The stunned mob takes a big dose of damage instantly.
Yellow, damage over time. The stunned mob takes a big DoT.
Blue, power restore. The players who pick blue get some power restored.
Green, morale restore. The players who pick green get some morale restored.

There are special colour combinations which provide extra effects on top of those.

Note: There have been some changes to FM's since those guides were written to allow non-melee classes to use the melee colours (red and yellow) from a distance.

Burgs, Guards and Captains all have some skills which have an improved chance of triggering an FM/CJ but any character class can potentially trigger them. Burgs have the highest chance of triggering an FM/CJ, Guards are second and Captains are third.
Therina - Hobbit Guard Rongo - Hobbit Warden
Frood - Man Minstrel Garmun - Man Captain
Zorosi - Dwarf Champ Froodaroon - Elf Hunter
    Southern Defenders - Elendilmir

It is true that Imladris is not the most popular server in Lotro but things like Tombs of Elendil can still be succesfully runned. Let me explain you some about the Endboss fight :

The fight begins with the Elite Master Crackskull, a Kergrim surrounded by non elite adds. After starting the encounter make sure all your fellows are at the ground level as Kergrim will spawn on the ledge above.

Send your tank onto the first Elite Master while you defeat the numerous non elite adds he has. This part of the fight is easy. When he reaches about 6k health he will begin to wake the sleeper. Upon awakening Nornagol eats the Silithar and finishes off Crackskull.

Your fellowship must collapse onto the Turtle and your Burglar or Guardian must be ready to force a Conjunction either by Tripping or Exploiting. Your initial attack should be full yellow for max overall damage. The Guardian will face Nornagol away from the fellowship so the conical sound blast does not hurt the rest of you.

Nornagol has a very high defense armor buff and is a stationary boss. You get around this buff by attacking him from inside his rear. You can attack him from right underneath his soft underbelly but I do not suggest that because Nornagol will use Ground Pound, an AoE hit for 400+ damage on occasion and it is much easier to avoid should you not be under him

By now Nornagol has spawned his adds. Before starting the encounter establish a collapse point. My personal suggestion is the area you land when you initially drop down to begin the encounter. There will be A LOT of Non Elite Adds and they will be VERY PISSED OFF AT YOUR HEALER!!!

It is IMPORTANT that your Healer survives this wave. A Champion or Lore Master really shines here. Take out all the non elites once you reach your collapse point.
Again, your collapse point needs to be behind Nornagol! Your collapse point CANNOT BE IN THE WATER . You are assured a wipe should Nornagol aggro anyone in the water as he spams ground pound.

Let me know if things are still unclear or if you need help by replying on this thread or send a ingame mail and/or tell to Ashwic and/or Lindiron, afterall we are on the same server

A pug I ended up in for Tomb of Elendil was my favorite grouping experience in the game. We ended up doing it twice, with lots of wipes - the first time we got to the end we hit a bug and the turtle never woke up. Here's a write up I did in the wee hours of the morning after that run:

I just saw this thread is a bit old, so hopefully you got it done. If not, I'll be happy to help if you're on Firefoot. When I did it a year and a half ago, it was with me (a level 42 Hunter at the time), a couple of champs, a RK traited for damage, a LM, and a mid 40's level hunter. Not that much different from you: no good tank, and no good healer. The Kergrims were tough as well, and I think I had just got Rain of Thorns, had lots of triple traps which I shared with the other hunter. The LM took care of the rest of the mezzing, and we took them down one by one. I'm sure the first time a PUG hits those guys, everyone usually wipes - it certainly took some planning from our eclectic group.

From what I recall, our trick to the end was everyone tried to trade aggro for the boss while I alternated between kiting and killing baby turtles. It was crazy hard and we probably did everything wrong, but it was epic!

I then took about a year off of the game when BF3 came out, but I just came back and am excited to see all the new things going on!

Just completed this yesterday with the help of my kinmates. Initially it was me (lvl 46 champ) and one kinny (lvl 76 hunter). We wiped a few times but managed to make our way to the turtle boss at the end. Alas, both of us were unable to put a dent to his hard shell and we got crushed. Then, we got the help of another kinny (lvl 76 cappy) and we were doing so much better. We managed to reduce the turtle to about a quarter of his life left before the FM kicked in and 3 clicks of yellow and it was dead within seconds!! Mission well accomplished!
