I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything similar or could shed any light on this problem I had.
Ringeras, lvl 75 LM, was standing outside the Prancing Pony having a "Pet Show" and displaying different LM pets to an interested party. I had my Spirit of Nature: Boar version out, not doing anything with it.
Suddenly my boar takes off running to the North. He jumps the chicken coop where the road takes the downhill turn towards the west gate and proceeds straight up the hill that we mere two-leggers cannot climb.
He's running much faster than me and quickly goes out of sight. I keep chasing him while tracking him on my mini-map radar screen and he disappears at approximately the location of the north gate.
Any ideas?
Rationally speaking, what a weird glitch! Can a pet be targeted by an emote that might do this?
Indulging in a flight of fancy, do you think he heard a hunting party in the little boar valley outside the north gate and ran down there hoping to ease the suffering of his lesser brethren? lol
My lore masters fox ran from the forges in thorin's hall to the entrance while i was crafting a sword. I just assumed that it was telling me it had to go to the bathroom and wanted me to open the door for it.
I too have experienced this with any "Spirit of Nature" variant. e.g: while standing at a mailbox. Or any outdoor
area if I'm idle for a period of time. I have NOT experienced this during combat. Yet. Very strange, indeed.

I've had it happen as well, except with the regular pets, the raven and the lynx. In the moors when I have the pets set on "guard" and I get dropped 6 feet under by a creep, I retreat to the rez, resummon said pet and it takes off on it's own toward whatever killed me...
At least in my case there is a logical explanation. The spirit pets bailing, you know how the saying goes, there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners

I've had it happen quite a bit - started encountering that issue when I was doing Enedwaith back when it was end-game. I usually run with the Lynx. Generally, it happens just after I summon the pet.
The spirit does have a built in mechanic for raids. If the group is separated, it will attempt to run over to the other group in order to perform its healing skill.
BTW, you don't need to chase it. Just dismiss the pet - or, after a certain distance from you, it will despawn. The only danger is if you're in an area where it might aggro something.

Right, I just pursued because I wanted to see if there was something he was legitimately responding to.
I've also experienced this. I had great fun chasing my pet across all of Limlight Gorge. He finally ran into a rock face unable to move further and after a few seconds disappeared. I've also had a spirit pet simply ignore me. He found a rock he liked and sat on it scratching his fleas. He wouldn't follow me, even when I called to him. I think he did return to master. They have a life of their own. Perhaps a bug with conflicting lines of code, maybe intentional to make them more realistic
I experienced this on every pet at least once, but mainly on the Bear and Spirit. It was most embarrassing when walking around Nan Curunir and my Bear rudely ran away from me, back across the River and I assume he must have interuptted 2 trolls at evening meal, as they were not particularly pleased. I tried to apologise for my pet's unruly behaviour but they would hear none of it....
Back on a serious note, I don't know what causes it, suppose its just a coding error, although it seems to happen randomly. *shrug*
I remember the first time that happened in the shire when my bear starting running off and wouldnt 'Return to Master'
I thought what on earth?
Happens now and then with my Lynx too.. then when i get caught into combat my pet starts running back (Not always though) and by the time they reach me I'm either dead or have already killed the mob that nearly finished me while i was struggling on my own! :P
I have experienced this on my spirit pets a lot, so i started to test out some things and realised it only ran off if i had its skills on automatic and set to aggressive. (I always have to set spirit pets on aggressive otherwise they don't seem to perform their skills automatically very well).
There has been a few occasions where ive been in combat in Stangard because my boar pet decided to run off and try to put its skill on a test dummy lol.
The raid mechanic it has seems to be on all the time unless you have it set to passive, I have not encountered it running off when set to passive and de-highlighted its skills, but any other mode it has done.
The other pets I have had run off very rarely but again that was because i leave my pet skills on automatic and not set to passive.
Not sure if its just a happy accident they don't run off when i set them this way, or if there is something more to it. Try it out and see if it stops the running away
I've seen this, but not on my character. It was on a Rune Keeper's stone oddly enough. It just charged off mid-raid and got us all wiped. Luckily, we all saw the funny side. I believe this has happened to other RKs as well. It's not often you see a lump of rock charge into the fight before a tank, but it's funny when it happens.
