    Consumer product warning about LOTRO

Playing LOTRO can be hazardous for your computer. Several keys wore out on my laptop. Guess which? W and S, and from the look of things, A and D were not far behind. Luckily my laptop had extended warranty, but for four days I had to make do with the W and S keys since warranty folks were coming to my house today.

ok from what I read in the OP it probably isn't a LOTRO specific problem. ANY program that uses the same keys as heavily as someone that uses WASD to move is a candidate for wearing out keys. Doesn't matter what game/program it is.

My suggestion is attach a real mouse and learn to use it to move with. Your reaction times will be faster and a mouse is much easier to replace than a laptop keyboard.

I can't say that's happened to me in Lotro, but I have completely worn the printing off the Ctrl and C keys from years of using AutoCad

My last game involved a lot of button mashing; the WASD lettering faded out but the keys remained functional. I bought a USB keyboard to avoid wearing them out. LOTRO is tame by comparison, but I use WASD, arrow keys, num lock, and mouse.

Just posted in jest....the button mashing is a conscious decision on my part, so this was meant to be a jest, tongue-in-cheek.

I'm surprised my keyboard hasn't worn out yet :P

but it's a G15 (older now) it's lasted brilliantly tho

so I'd say: get a Logitech keyboard

although the "HP" on my latest mouse has completely worn off... been through a lot of mice recently /me ponders

Ha, most of my keys don't have the letters on them anymore because of how much I use them. Will try the white nail-polish suggestion!

You need to find one of the nail paint pens like professional nail shops use (try a beauty supply place?)

Or if you are very lucky you can find a white sharpie pen

Nothing like that happens to me with my good ol' black Dell keyboard.

"The words that you're reading here
is from my keyboard that's named Lucille.
    I'm very crazy about Lucille.
Lucille took me from Old Odo's Leaf-Farm.
Oh you might say, brought me fame.
I don't think I could just talk enough about Lucille.
Sometime when I'm blue it seems like Lucille try to help
    Me call my name."

    Yeah!

Jeepers! That was one really dodgy puter the opener has if the "WSAD" keys wore out that quick.. I was using the same keyboard for two years while playing lotro and my keys never stopped functioning , sure the letters on the keys were wearing off but the keys worked fine. Have since upgraded my keyboard to a lit up keys one though, now I can play in the dark

Try saying WASD to someone that has never gamed before.

My 11 years old wireless A4 tech rfkbtx 5-1 still works like a charm and believe me that WASD keys must be running for the most used in the keyboards history.

I have never used wasd. First thing I do in a new game is change them to the arrow keys.

That way I can feel the keys without looking at them and it is so much more comfortable for my left arm as it allows me to rest my elbow near the edge of the left side of the keyboard as my left arm sits flush next to the bottom of the keyboard with my fingers in reach of the arrow keys.

Oh and I have been using the same keyboard for fifteen years. The only problem I have is that the 0 button on the keypad sticks sometimes. I assume my keys are all legible because I tap them with the bottom of the finger tip and my finger nails dont scrape the keys.

Well, I always say they don't make 'em like they used to. That cuts both ways, some things they make better, others get worse.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 that cost me quick a lot of money. I was very dissapointed as this is the first keyboard that has ever worn out on me and I've been a PC gamer for most of my life and been playing MMORPG's since about 1999.

So far the HP has worked fine otherwise. I may go get me a USB keyboard that I use just for gaming though just to be on the safe side.

Are you actually serious? You blaming game, that your keys wore out. That is what you get, when you buy HP.
I also did that mistake few years ago, still using a DV7 1020ea. It is full of cheap junk (hardware), clearly worst laptop I ever seen.
So what for you actually paid is HP logo.

Solution for you. Hook up better display in to display port, you can keep laptop folded. Place laptop vertically, for better cooling. DV7 has 4 USB ports, external mouse and good keyboard witch is designed for playing games. You will need laptop keyboard and touch-pad only when you go mobile.
As for an example, I'm using a Steelseries Stealth Merc (illuminated, with full macro support and anti ghosting) and Logitech M705 mouse (as I don't need any better).
To fix your keyboard, have look on Ebay, you can buy new keyboard (look buy laptop model) or just single keys (different colors).
Now this is drama, buy the way most of games using WASD keys for movement and turning.

Plug in cheap USB keyboard for playing. When it breaks, throw it out and get a new one.

The keyboard issues you're describing are usually a result of Draigoch bugging out at under 1% health, or skill lag during phase 5 of Saruman on T2.
