I'd really like to see some sort of toggle between normal mount movement and war steed combat movement. I am so used to normal movement it is really going to mess me up as I have a ton of lower level alts that I play frequently. Perhaps I'll get better in time with normal movement things like stopping next to a vendor etc. with practice.
Turbine has already publicly discussed these aspects of mounted combat (movement speed, turning, and stopping) and explained the differences from normal steeds. They've also been demonstrated publicly in videos. I don't see anything here that would suggest an NDA violation.
I, too, hope that Turbine can somehow unify the riding experience across all mounts at some point.
Not necessarily. The devs (or at least Sapience and co.) have talked about the difficulties with mounted combat. New learning curve and all that jazz. I've known it would be different just from how they talk about it. I had in my mind the feeling in Need For Speed Underground 2 when I go swerving around corners and the momentum is just too much to take a corner at high speeds etc and end up smashing into a wall (or flying off a cliff). A little like driving a bus compared to the mounts we are currently used to. Sapience and Aaron talked about that in the live feed video tonight, too, confirming that impression but also saying that people in beta have been saying stuff like "wow this is really awkward" but later on "I'm really starting to get the hang of this!" At the end of the live feed one of them said something about being able to view the footage from the live feed (youtube maybe?) in the coming future. I highly recommend watching it when they upload it. One can really come to a lot of accurate conclusions just based on their own personal impression, as I did with the maneuverability that the devs confirmed tonight in the live feed.

That video (which is very informative and illustrates all the concerns in this post) is available to watch right now at:
Haha yes you are right! I just found that link. ^_^ *bookmarks* Looks like I was wrong. Its not Sapience and Aaron, its Aaron and someone (Rob?) from the MMORPG website... I came in after it had started.
