Thread: Reminder to change your account passwords

Just a reminder for folks to change their account passwords on a regular basis.

A kinnie got their account hacked and gold taken. Luckily there was a "bread crumb" to follow and they got the name[s] and kin of [someone]. That [someone] was not necessarily the hacker but lead to more "bread crumbs" which were passed on to Turbine.

The hack evidently was in progress and was stopped. Only the gold was taken. Major Kudos to Turbine for restoring the lost gold!

So.. the hackers are gearing up for RoR and need "your" gold, don't give it to them: Change Your Passwords.

A bunch of people in my kin have had their alternate kin houses robbed. They were set to public, and sadly someone took advantage of that. Half a dozen or so were cleaned out. So others need to either keep an eye on their chests, or set them to private for a while. Or better yet! How about a player-viewable log, Turbine, that shows when items are taken out or put into the chests! That would help to catch the thieves a lot easier! And might even deter some people!

i dont think so at the post above me... A number of my kinnies and i lost stuff even though noone had permissions to move and decorate our stuff... i think its just a housing glitch...

I find it hard to believe this is just a glitch. Can anyone else confirm that they have lost stuff from housing chests that were set to private or owner-only? Or can the lovely (no sarcasm intended) CMs confirm for us that this is indeed a glitch that is being looked in to? I just find it very hard to believe that a glitch can cause chests in half a dozen houses to be COMPLETELY emptied out.

Did the chests contain cosmetics/trophies, and those are missing, too? Then I would rather believe it is a database problem. Or do have cosmetics a price, too?

Edit: My main has a Luxury House and two chests in it, and there are also two twinks on another account. The twinks can use the chests freely, but only because I entered their names in a list of allowed characters. This means a bit of hassle, but I think it is worth while if you want to keep your belongings.

Some cosmetics were taken, yes. But they were not bound. And yes, those can sell. I was told about 30 gold worth of cosmetics were taken. Also ale, pipe-weed, potions, recipes... I don't understand it. It's not hard to make money in this game at all. And it's not like you can use in-game gold in the TP store, or trade it out for RL money. And would be tough to sell like they do for WoW. *shrugs* Some people....
