    which class?

ok i am almost ready to buy a new class from the lotro store. i want a class with ranged skills, because i feel that while my reaver is fun, i would like a ranged class to switch to when i need it. i understand that there are three classes with ranged capibilities.
Black Arrow: I understand that this is the main ranged dps class, there are tons of them, and that they mostly do DoT.
Pro's: Striaght foreward class, Lots of damage, always wanted.
Con's: Many of them out there, Seems to lack variaty.

Defiler: I understand that they are more of a heal/buff class than dps, there seem to be fewer of them than BA's, and they seem to have a number of interesting skills.
Pro's: variaty of skills, less common class, lots of heals, always wanted in groups.
Con's: Somewhat squishy, less dps, nearly always a target.

Weaver: I understand that they have lots of debuffs, they seem to be the least common of the three classes, they have a pet, and seem to do moderate damage,
Pro's: Not many of them, Debuffs, Pet, should be very interesting to play.
Con's: Rather squishy, Seem to do less damage than the other two, Seem rather........ Unwelcome in groups, there uncommoness makes them unusual to see much of.

Well what do you think of each class? and please tell me if i missed something or said something wrong.

BAs: you are correct, they are the main damage, but not so much from dots, especially if you buy skills from the lotro store. If you are looking for a ranged damage class this should be your option.

defiler: while their debuffs are nice, they have long cast times and short distances, the same goes for their ranged damage skills, if in group you will be expected to heal.

Weaver: Their damage comes from dots, they don't do a huge amount of damage, but enough to rake in some points, they are rather squishy unless store bought skills come into play and/or higher ranks. They can bring a lot of utility to group, i have been playing my BA recently and thought many times man i wish i had my spider right now.

    In terms of damage
    1. BA
    2. Weaver
    3. Defiler

In terms of group utility (not to be confused with desirability)
    1. Defiler
    2. Spider
    3. BA

Being very new to this side of the game , I'll go with how I see it....
For long range BA is the bomb , can't get any better range then that.. and yes there seems to be alot of them...as my 1
BA is only a rk 4 . I die alot and know that this wil happen because 1, i'm low rank . 2 i'm low rank , and 3 freeps love us low rank .
but with a BA at least you can keep your distance..

2 defilers my is rank 0 , barely play him .. gthey are awesome for healing.. but then again you die alot there because one you are low rank , and until you get higher in rank your healing skills kinda are limited...

3 weavers ,, they are really cool with thier webbings and ect , they play off there pet , so its really kinda of awesome.. but at a low lvl they also die alot ,,, mine is still rank 0

I personally love my warg Sleath , she will be rank 4 here shortly.... and i love the stealth mode and the shadow damage that comes from being in stealth , but then again the flayer mode is awesome and causes major damage,,, i still die alot,,, but atleast i get a good bite , before I go down....lol
good luck to you,,, and happy creeping

    Namaste .

If you're looking for pure damage, ba is the way to go. However, tbh, I think that spider is the better range option since they have much more versatility due to their pets and debuffs.

I'd say that it really depends on how you want to play. Solo, ba is the best. Group (if you're going for damage as opposed to healing) then I'd say spider since skills like web the earth and all their different debuff skills in addition to their damage make them a much more valuable asset than just pure dps.

If you mostly like to run around the map solo then I'd get a BA or maybe a spider if you prefer a more dynamic class. You will find it very slow to rank up as a solo defiler.

If you enjoy grouping with a friend or two, then a defiler will be much more useful (unless your friends are defilers or warleaders).

    Freeps: r8 Mini
    Creeps: r10 Reaver, r8 WL, r8 Defiler, r8 Warg, r7 Spider, r6 BA
