    Non-spamming Kins

I started LOTRO not that long ago, and have quickly found myself in-game for hours on end enjoying what has now become my primary MMO. What I've noticed, however, on my primary toon and my lower level crafting toons are the inevitable unsolicited invites to kin without even so much as an IM to say hi -- and I get quite a number of them. Naturally, I reject those without a comment since I didn't get a greeting in the first place with the invite. How would these kin even know they would want me in their group? I could be a jerk for all they know, but they don't bother to find out. I'm an experienced MMO, and a level-capped guild/clan leader in another MMO, looking for a kin to join. I've been looking forward to finding a kin to join to contribute, but I won't join one that allows for random invite spamming. Are there any kins out there that don't spam the invite button?

I have had the same problem, I believe that either they are just looking for another member to bring their number up to eight OR they are purely interested in the game and want you for your class or crafting, not the kind of guy you are. What I do, since I am more worried that they are jerks than that I am a jerk, is decline then send them the hello, if I feel like it. Unfortunately, the only non-spamming kinships are the ones that are organized outside that game, and you could only get into those if you were part of the group of friends outside the game, I suggest you create your own if you want to join one for social reasons, use my technique to join a spamming one, or ask to join one the next time you come across a kin member who dosn't spam you.

This post is in the Brandywine Kinship forum, so just a wild guess...but I think he's on Brandywine

Thanks, cavemanswoman and Mellonbeleg. Yes, I'm on Brandywine. I appreciate the advice, Mellonbeleg and I'll see if that helps. BTW, I'm a she not a he. I should probably indicate that in my bio. I'm sure I'll eventually find a kin that suits my LOTRO habit!

You can also go into your social settings and disable kinship invites. There are more than a few kins out there who just want a large pool of people, rather than being selective. I guess it's like having a watered-down global lff channel as your kin chat, and that appeals to some.

I'm sure some others are younger kids who don't know any better.

You can always turn off random kinship invites, then turn them back on again when you want to join a kinship.

I would suggest running with lots of pugs or fellow with someone while questing. Normally if you like one person from a kin you're bound to have an easier time transitioning into that person's kinship.

If it helps any...you can auto decline the kinship invites under the Options panel > Ctrl O > Social Tab. There should be an option you can check/uncheck to decline spar requests and kinship requests.

I can completely sympathize with how that goes...every new toon I make now will not allow kinship invites. Many out there just want you in there for the numbers. They also typically have poor chemistry and carry a very unimpressive reputation which makes it slightly harder to join the really good raid groups. Especially when it's a larger kinship...people tend to become a random name/number and people that log on and off largely go unnoticed.

Thanks all. I appreciate all the friendly replies and advice. Just starting to do more pugs and I'm finding it's quite helpful.

Bluemarlin, very nice Hammerfist website! I appreciate the info.
