The other week I went onto my LOTRO launcher and it had to do a few updates. I entered my normal world- which I've never had problems with before- and it got to the stage where you are meant to select your character and enter middle earth. However, I cannot press/select any buttons on this screen and, most importantly, cannot enter middle earth. I have a feeling its something to do with my internet security but I have no idea what this problem could be. I have already tried re-installing the whole game but that hasn't seemed to fix the problem! Can anyone help?
Make sure mouse "pointer trails" is turned off.
The setting should be in your windows control panel under mouse.
I looked where you told me to but I already had this setting off. I turned off pointer shadow as well to see if this may work but I had no success... Any other suggestions?
Find your userpreferences.ini file which is located in your mydocuments folder.
Rename it (or delete it). This will force the game to make a new one which is set to all defaults. If that fixes it then there is something wrong with your original.
While you are there you might want to check to see it the line GraphicsCore is set to GraphicsCore=D3D9. That tells it direct X 9.
ps you can also try renaming the lotro.keymap file.

I tried renaming both files that you told me to but it still doesn't work. Also, how can I check to see my graphics core- I don't quite understand what you mean/how to do it.
try what hazmat suggested and browse to (my)documents\the lord of the rings online and find userpreferences.ini, take a backup then open the orriginal in notepad
find the line GraphicsCore and change it to GraphicsCore==D3D9
if that fails and if your able to see see the character, the regional background and all the buttons follow the guide here under "Mouse cursor lags, or the left or right mouse button clicks do not register:" or "mouse cursor of center" http://support.turbine.com/ics/suppo...0+22+21+18+4+2
