    Question RoR best selling expansion

Does anyone think RoR will achieve more sales than RoI? Being that RoI was the best selling expansion so far.
Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

I feel however that a lot of people were let down by the hype of RoI, which has potentially made in difficult for RoR to reach the sales it needs. The expansion looks great! It will be a shame if it doesn't reach the number's i feel it deserves though.

It's a crowded season for new MMO material (though I can't recall what the market was like when RoI was released).

Currently, The Secret World was just released to very good word of mouth. It looks like it may be a sleeper hit (though it is a horror-themed game, and might cater to a different niche).

GW2 is releasing at the end of August, just before RoR. A Korean financial analyst just predicted that it will sell 3 million copies, and estimated 1 million had already been pre-purchased.

WoW's MoP expansion is also coming out some time in the fall.

Also, RoI was released fairly soon after the initial F2P rush, and no doubt benefited from the "shiney".

On the other hand, my sense is Lotro has continued to grow through F2P and has brought in an audience that buys content rather than subbing, so that is in its favour. As is the player base of veterans, and Tolkien acolytes (of which there not a few).

So, to conclude, it's too soon to tell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only major title LotRO had to compete against with RoI was SWtOR. As you said there are several other xpacs as well as full games being released around the same time (and that will impact sales one way or another). Then there is the hype of RoI (and the subsequent letdown for many), not to mention the mess up with the IC, information, etc with RoR. It would be interesting to know the numbers but something tells me we will only get "RoR sold well" or no answer whatsoever. An easy way to spot a rough number of sales would ofc be to check how many people do the new content.
    An interesting question though

I have to concur with Fledermaus here. It's rather too soon to tell at this point. I would add though that with this xpac in comparison to RoI they have been much more energetic in advertising Rohan, and in general hyping it up more.

Also, a rather simple effect I think it could have on its side is this...

Rohan. Rohan just has more power in the word, in terms of attracting interest, than Isengard does. Whether it will have a large effect in the long term, I have no idea. But I have a feeling it might.

From what my eyes see on my server, there were way more people wearing RoI prepurchase cosmetics in the first day of the pre-purchase season than there are now weeks after it was started for RoR. I know some people pre-purchased the smallest pack with no cosmetics but still, it is visibly way behind RoI pre-purchasing mania last year.

With the prices it's selling for, I'm not surprised Turbine might get record sales revenue from RoR.
