Crafting and Critical Success: Naming the Item

I think it would be a vast improvement for the crafter (who is often just pushing through a pile of mats to get a crafting tier complete--I admit it0 AND for the end user of those items that achieve critical success if...

Critted items are prompted for a name when they EQUIP rather than when they craft.

I try to give my critted crafting nice, lore-friendly names but I still wonder if I'm doing their buyer a favor or not. If it's a commissioned crafting, I try to ask for a name up front but often my customer isn't online when I get to fill the commission. Letting the end user name their new pride and joy when it goes to bind on equip seems to be a good solution for the crafter and the wearer wielder.

Sounds completely sensible to me. But it would still be nice if the crafter could retain the right to name the item. After all, it was "crafted by" them. They might not like it if it get's named something they mightn't like for whatever reason. Maybe if they double-click to equipt they could have a third option of "naming only" when being warned if the item is equipped it will be bound to them.

I so heartily agree with this!!!! I like the ability to crit when I title, but i really hate being asked for a name everytime! Do have to sit there, on the screen while this is crafting takes a while, when i could be reading forums or something while its working

This would also solve the 'issue' (more of a convenience thing) of those who want to craft many items all in one go and are annoyed by the interruption when they crit and are asked for a name. For that, the most common suggestion was a way to disable critting altogether, but this solution is much more elegant.

I like to be able to give an item, I craft for someone, a personalized touch by giving a name, and I would loose this if the one equipping it would be the one naming and also lore wise i thing that it's normally the smith naming and not the user.
For me the solution would be the ability to disable naming while crafting, so you can turn naming on and of in the same way you can turn the use of crit materials on and off.

Why not restrict the item naming feature for only those who have mastered the tier? (i.e. Proficiency unlocks the ability to crit, but mastery unlocks the ability to name your crit results.) That way, item naming could be an extra perk for mastering a tier, and it won't interrupt you while you are still grinding crafting xp.

would be a spendid idea to let the one who equips it give it a name. Really have a problem with giving names, all depends on my mood what name i give....could be anything then from funny to lore to.....

so yeah give the title right to the one who equips it, saves me a lot of time lol
........I'm not online....it's just your imagination.........

+Rep, best suggestion I've seen to solve this "problem".

As for the OP's suggestion, I'd have to say no. The crafter needs to retain full powers of the naming process.

+ rep for this great suggestion!

I agree with this idea entirely. I rarely name an item when I'm grinding the level because it takes time, and I know that I'll be vendoring the item or selling it cheap in the Auction House to free up pack space. It's typically after I've mastered the tier that I'm making things for friends or kinnies, and the naming feature adds a nice personal touch.

This being the case, I would like to retain the right to name the items that I craft. I would hate to see one of my lovely crafted bows called something like "SuperPKers Great Bow of Doom ... Crafted by Laurewaie" /cringe
