    Star-lit crystals and dps increase

Can anyone tell me how do the crystals raise DPS on a weapon? Is it worth putting into 1st age? I heard they don't do much on 1st agers. Shall I rather get me 2nd age then? I also heard the last upgrade does pretty much nothing anyway.

I am talking about the lesser crystals which work on up to lvl65 LIs btw, but I assume they work in exactly the same way. I hope a lvl65 staff with upgrades will reliably last me all the way to 75.

I wouldn't use them on a lvl 65 item. A 2nd age lvl 65 should get you easily to level 70+. Depending on class you might want to get a lvl 70-71 3rd age which does a lot more DPS and Tactical healing or crit than a lvl 65 2nd age. You can also go all the way to 75 with your 65 2nd age. 75 is what you are aiming at the moment at least till September. A crystal adds another step to the DPS or Tactical on your LI which is about the same like the increase you have by normaly leveling DPS or Tactical on your LI.

Dude, read his post. He is specifically talking about the Lesser Crystals, which can only be used on lvl 65 LIs and below. Why should he not use them on a 65 item?

OP: The discussion about 1st and 2nd ager only applies to lvl 75 weapons because DPS scales differently (and even then 1st agers are better, the difference is just much smaller). For lvl 59-65 you will always want a 1st ager over a 2nd ager if you can.

I don't quite understand the scaling. Are we talking only about fixed item level (75 in this case) and difference in increases to dps for 3rd, 2nd and 1st age versions? AND that works entirely differently than for 65?

Each age and character level required to equip combo of a legendary item has a different base DPS. Plus the number of points the DPS goes up each time you level up the DPS legacy is different.

With the introduction of Star-Lite crystals every legendary item received three additional DPS legacy levels which can only be activated by Star-Lite crystals.

It is important to know how many DPS points you will get each time you increase DPS legacy. For example, level 75 first ages have a very high base DPS. Each step is very small. There is not a lot difference the base DPS and the maximum DPS for a level 75 first age. Level 75 second ages have a much larger difference between base DPS and maximum DPS.

Hopefully my explanation has helped. Not made you even more confused. Please ask again if you are still have open questions.

Is there an updated guide on the Star-lite crystals

I've been away from lotro for a few months now and just returned. I'm just wondering what I missed here with the upgrades on LIs. Where do you get them and how do you set them.

There isnt much to know. You have a chance to get them in every late game instance loot chest, and from skirmish Lieutenants. To use them, just click them and point them at the legendary item you want to upgrade. What they do is: they upgrade the hidden level of your legendary item by one, which means your base legagacy (damage, healing rating etc.), ratings-based legacies, and passive stats on 2handed items increase.

They do not work on champion runes and burglar toolbags.
