I've been a free player for 2 years now, and have finally decided to upgrade. However, I dont have a credit card and dont fancy getting a PayPal account. I do have a debit card though, is there any way Turbine could process a payment via this without an independant provider?
Also, there seems to be a Game Card option. does this apply to gift cards from the Game store here in the UK, or are they different?
Not sure this is the place to post this, but it seemed relevant.
Try using your debit card ... most banks changed the way they work, to help paying for stuff over the water, by calling them Visa cards, just like mine.
debit cards usualy work similarly to a credit card so long as the card is visa or mastercard, if the card is not visa or mastercard then turbines system will most likely not accept the card
your other options are to use pay-by-cash and purchase a game time code, pay-by-cash accept several payment options including bank transfer, cheque and cash.
purchase a gametime card from turbine\digital river.. though iirc the same card restrictions apply as for a regualr subscripion
you may find lotro gametime cards in the UK but you may find the cards are for the codemasters version of lotro which WILL NOT WORK with turbine. check the cards carefully if they contain codemasters or the codemasters pink\red logo, do not buy. also ask the seller if you can return the card if it does not work as your unsure as to whether the card is vaild, again if they say no do not buy, but afaik only turbine point cards are being sold in the UK in WHsmiths and game, iirc these cards are called turbine point cards and will show a quantity of turbine points these are not the same as a gametime card
hey, thanks for the advice guys, I'm gonna test drive a couple of cards to see.
Cheers
OK I did try a visa debit card, and it worked, but after a day the subscription was cancelled due to 'Non-payment'. does this mean debit cards dont work at all?

It just means that the transaction did fully complete.
Did you by chance cancel right away or remove the card information? You need to leave it in there for a few days before you remove it or cancel.
It also could be that your bank rejected it. Some banks won't process transactions for gaming, they get a game confused with a gambling site. You can call your bank and find out why it was rejected.
You can also call Turbine directly and see if they can help you that way.
I didn't cancel it, but I was wondering if it took a couple of days to complete, even though I began to play as a vip right away. Thanks though, the confusion between gambling and gaming is very logical and seems possible.
