    The annoyance of Global.

I've noticed that this week, we have experienced the most ridiculous/annoying global chats I've ever seen. At first it was only on a night (UK time anyway) so I was willing to let it go and ignore it. After all, it was quiet and nobody was looking for a group so apart from being annoying it did no harm. But today this annoying chat happened at a busy server time, while there were at LEAST 4 real lff's going.
So Eldar, I ask you; Why? why all of a sudden all this trolling/annoying chat? And more than that actually. Some of the chat is... disrespectful, mean, cruel, and just downright ridiculous. Personally explicit language doesn't bother me, nor does 'most' offensiveness. But for others I know they would rather not see it. Please have a bit of respect for others Eldar.

And before people start saying: "Just /leave channel globallff." That's not really an answer. If I do that, I'll end up not getting into any group content, as it's now very rare to see anything in regional or regular LFF'S. Plus it means that I am having to suffer because of somebody else's attitude.

Please take this into consideration all. Kind regards,
    Geind

Eldar has always been this way .... from Ardalan-Obli and even now the current crop. I dont think it will change soon

You alaso dont have to leave the channel, your free to add any and all to ignore to make it a safer and nicer place. Sometimes i only ever see 1/3 of a conversation but it doesnt bother me.

hehe that's nothing really it's been like this always if not even ''worse'' in CM days.

it is quite entertaining sometimes actually, can't have lff all day eh, unless ofc you mean people just cursing each other off on global, still entertaining but gets annoying.

Trust me; It has long been like that and it's not better on other servers (read: the same or worse )

It's not even the funny chats that annoy me, as there is that one (fairly new) player that keeps asking (advice, wts or wtb) for the weirdest things. I once bought a lvl40 pocket item from him for 500s just to shut him up :P

I agree completely, Global appears to be a stage for people who want to make wise cracks most of which aren't even funny... theres a few people in particular I really want to flame for saying some of the most stupid attempts at getting a cheap laugh ive ever seen. There are only a few people I like to watch have the stage light, Kravendir is one of them, at least he's funny. Overall though, I would like to see the channel policed more than it used to.

I'm sort of with you, peak times it gets annoying especially if you're trying to put a group together, but when it gets late into the evening/night time I'm probably as guilty as anyone, early hours of the morning it seems anything goes. There is one particular 'individual' no names mentioned obviously, that likes to announce their presence to the whole server and has single handedly caused more drama on Eldar than the rest of the community combined but they're on ignore.

I'd be quite happy to see global getting policed properly, even though I chip in when it's quiet, OOC is the place for that kind of thing, I fully understand OP not wanting to shut off global, you miss out on groupings, awkward one I guess, kind of needs Turbine to step in and lay the law down.

I agree with this. I understand there's always been all sorts of chat in the global channel, and I don't mind that, and it's often interesting to read and also informative, but lately I've noticed myself having to disable it unless I'm looking for a group.

The amount of swearing, inappropriate/sexual jokes, insulting of women and other kinds of bickering is too much. I use the ignore function as much as I can but the problem is that there's so many people involved.

Sometimes I will see a player post something in a language that is not English, for example in my mother tongue, and what ensues are insults of the language. However, some players abuse this by swearing in languages that the GM's don't understand. I've seen some of the most appalling insults used by players in global and get away with it because it's not a language known by the GM's.

Maybe I should grow a thicker skin but I never see a reason for such expressions at all.

First and the most important thing to remember when you see anything offending in GlobalLFF:

    Do not respond to it!

If you do respond, there's a very good chance that you will be equally offending, and it is absolutely certain that you will only be adding fuel to the fire even if your response isn't quite as heated as it could be. It's always better to suck it up, stay quiet and ignore the offending player - at least for a while. Remove the ignores for example when you log in the next time - or next week - to keep the list from getting too crowded.

I do that a lot. If someone is annoying me repeatedly, I add a note into the ignore list to remind me to never remove that specific ignore. It's quite a handy way to manage the most annoying players. I recall there's currently 5 such character names on my ignore list.

With some practice, you may also be able to ignore the offenders "mentally". It's not really that hard to begin with. If you're looking for a group to join, don't read everything, but only the lines that start with "LFF". With more practice, you can read more of the chat and just kinda bypass everything that's an annoyance. Look at the name who wrote the offending comment, and skip everything from the same name after that.

    Just my two cents there...

(I'm taking the approach of giving tips on how to deal with the offending chat, as there's absolutely no way to force everyone to behave properly. However, you can quite easily avoid situations where you would be making things even worse. Let the others ridicule themselves freely, but don't make the same mistake yourself.)

    re global

Sadly my ignore list seems to be growing it the simple option.
    It seems easier than arguing.

    Re: Annoyance

This will probably be the best idea to solve this problem, if somewhat simple and pragmatic.

Don't join the damn channel then and stop posting this garbage in forums

    Thanks
