I have a level 36 minstrel that I have only run solo in warspeech. Now I have the quests to help the rangers at Rantost (near Tinnidur) and have done all but the last step. This is a small instance where you help the rangers retake Rantost. I tried it in warspeech and I must have been hitting pretty hard because all the baddies came after me and I was quickly defeated!
Is it feasible to run it as a healer, just healing the NPCs that I'm supposed to be helping? What would you recommend for someone who hasn't done any group healing?
I would say you can run this in War-speech, or healing... it's not a very hard instance since they scaled it down to solo. The rangers are pretty tough overall, and you can actually take 3 losses in their numbers as well. If you want the practice, try healing, otherwise just blast through it (I've done both on my RK, and in the higher level instances, healing actually works out better in some cases for us squishies).
Cheers.

Just ran this with my minstrel a few days ago at lvl 38. If you're worried about getting too much aggro, the Harmony stance is really helpful. You lose Call of Orome and a little damage as well, but the coda heals you AND does damage. More importantly, the coda does AOE damage, which is particularly helpful with multiple mobs like on Rantost. I used to go War-Speech while soloing, but now mainly use Harmony bc it lets me go after multiple mobs with more survivability.
However, the rangers on Rantost are tough enough that I only ever had to heal one or two of them in the entire instance.
I ran this one on my mini last week - but I think I was level 39? I ran it in OP. I failed the first time, but got it the 2nd time no problem. It's a pretty long instance and I think that is was makes it so tough.
I didn't heal anyone - other than myself. Definitely use your coda - it does a ton of damage. I try to hit one of the mobs with the dot (echoes of battle) and beat on the others.
I generally target, call to possibly stun, hit echoes of battle, ballad, ballad, ballad, coda, and chord of salvation (I think - this is the morale over time for you). If I'm running low on power, I'll hit my 3 ballads and hit the power over time then coda.
If you've gotten too big a pull, use the skill that scares a mob off (the pink one - call to elsbreth?). It will buy you some time without someone else wailing on you.
Move from group to group - as long as you can keep three rangers from dying you'll beat the instance. If you can weed a couple mobs from the groups as they come you should do alright.
How are you traited? If you're running in OP I'd suggest red line traiting (warrior skald).
Thanks for all the help. I'll try some of the suggestions. Being a mediocre player, I'm still learning as I go. And I am traited Warrior Skald. I'd like to be able to heal more, for times when I do fellowship.
I tried the harmony stance a bit on the landscape and it's hard for me to do something new. I'm old and set in my ways! So I decided to try again in warspeech. Almost wiped once, but got through it, losing only one ranger. With my hunter and guardian before (both over level at the time, the quest was probably blue) I didn't lose anybody, but I didn't know I could!! I really had no idea what I was doing, I just kept running back and forth, flailing away at baddies until I got the "you won" message. Told you I was mediocre. But I'm enjoying the game anyway.
Glad to hear you made it work. I rolled a guard through a few months ago too. Definitely a much different feel to a mini.
FWIW - I started playing 11 months ago. My first MMO too - so I'm learning as I go too. I'm at level 44 on my mini as of last night and have really spent the last week focusing on traits/stats etc. Managed to bump up my morale by 300+ and my power by that or more. Huge difference in durability.
