The game celebrates seasons and anniversary. So rather than Christmas, there is the Winter Festival. There is Summer Festival instead of Independence Day. Spring Festival instead of Easter. Fall Festival instead of Thanksgiving.
With four festivals a year, too many more celebrations can become tedious.
To be honest, I'm also rather surprised that Turbine didn't have any events running for the week to celebrate Independence Day and Canada Day. Certainly Turbine won't identify the holidays in question, but that doesn't mean that they don't celebrate some of the big ones. It's no coincidence that the celebrations for Bullroarer Took Day, which features drinking games, clover themed rewards, and green outfits, generally falls on St. Patrick's Day every year. The Fall festival usually covers Halloween and Thanksgiving, the Winter-fest for Christmas and New Years, Spring for Easter, and I'm almost certain that in the past (probably before the server mergers), the Summer Festival began in early July to cover both Canada Day and Independence Day.
This last year, however, we've seen the introduction of several new events. The Treasure Hunt, while not exactly a seasonal event, definitely has a festival-like flavor to it. There's also the Farmer's Faire, which is tentatively scheduled to begin next week, so there is no telling what sort of festival this will be. And then of course there is the Anniversary Event in late April, which was drastically enhanced this year with the introduction of all those fire-work themed games and rewards.
In my opinion, it wouldn't cause too much harm to turn on all those fire-work games from the Anniversary for a week, and call it a celebration of the holidays that have passed this last week. But then again, with the Farmer's Faire just a short while away, and the arrival of a huge expansion in a couple months, the devs are likely hard-pressed to run any short-term event these days.
