Just started up playing this game. Great game, great community, if not the best online community I've met, ever. So many thanks to you all. =)
I've only really got one question about the etiquette surrounding people at the same quest objectives/targets. A few times I've been in situations where there are maybe 5 or 6 players going for the same NPC target for some quest (one that come to mind include the Limael's Vineyard one and the Two Chieftains quest outside Staddle). When the target spawns, I, along with the other 4 or 5 or 6 lads there, all attack and landed blows on the target, but I don't get the quest done notice.
I'm not entirely sure how the system actually works (first come first served? percentage of damage done?) before it actually counts, so to speak. But since the time at the Vineyard (where I had to go around 5 times before I got told I was done) I've always waited until I feel I'm relatively clear or I won't "steal a kill", so to speak (although there was the one time where after landing a couple of blows I left the target to the guy who engaged on it first..... only for him to die soon after. I guess it was my bad, I should have checked out his health. My sincere apologies to that dude). Is this the right thing to do? Is there a right thing to do? Any veterans care to enlighten me? =)
Its simple, if you are the first that does any harm to that target, you will get the quest done. What you guys had to do is: get everybody in fellowship (group) and kill the guy, then everybody gets kill.
If you turn up at a place where you need to kill a certain mob, or protect a certain mob and you see other players at the same location.
Then it would be logical to ask if they are htere for the same reason as you. And ask if they want to team up
To do this right-click player name > Fellowship > Invite
Some players are ignorant of this and will just run in and grab the mob (known as ninja'ing)
Its a good idea to use the /say channel (type /say then space to chat in it). It broadcasts what you say around you so u will be sure those near u see it. If they dont respond to your invitation its anybody's kill. Good news is npc's respawn quickly.
Sometimes its a good idea to just invite them. Some at starter areas dont know how to use chat so a simple invite to fellowship will solve the issue. But thers a thing, if one tagged the NPC before accepting the invitation the he alone will get the kill.
Another good news is that as you progress these situations tend to only occur at new content releases, since the world of LOTRO is pretty extensive.
